Late in life Kate became a Philadelphia icon for her rendition of “God Bless America” that was played before Flyers hockey games. The team brought her in to sing live for the Cup clinching game in 1974.
Indeed! That was a shameful tragedy. This woman built up beauty by her singing and patriotism by her love of country. Those who only know how to destroy, never build, were responsible.
Will you be so kind to clue me in as to how Kate Smith is associated with the "All In The Family" theme song? Is there a verse of that song that mentions her, that perhaps isn't played at the opening of the show,? Please help me out.
I like Johnny Mercer (and this song) but I've always hated that line. I don't think it has a deeper meaning, but I haven't read the story (Breakfast at Tiffany's, by Truman Capote) or seen the movie. Maybe it's a reference to something, but I doubt it. There's a vague association with Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer being friends and the plot of "Huckleberry Finn" having to do with the Mississipi river, but I still think it's awful. I've always liked the music (by Henry Mancini) but I think the arranger overdid it here.
@@laurencefinston7036 I think it's like "Mack the Knife." Nobody knows what it means, and that includes those who sang it, but it's catchy, so who cares. Of course, if it means something, I'd like to know.
Such stage presence! One cannot fake that! And her distinctive voice made people sit up and listen. She was a class act.
Fantastic rendition, beautiful voice ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This song is one of my all time faves and this was a lovely rendition.
Her diction is excellent.

And they tore down her statue. It's time to put it back up.

Nobody can touch Kate's rendition of "God Bless America."
And only Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito of The Bruins went to say hello to her after the song. Pure class.
INDEED !!!!!
"Thank you, Doc. You ever served time?"
❤
The music overpowers her voice.

How does she tie in to "All In The Family" and it's theme song?
To think this performance was 7 months before the JFK assassination punctuates the innocent era. Her interpretation was perfect for the time.
Sounds nice. But nothing can match the simplicity and softness in Audrey Hepburn's voice in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
What exactly is a huckleberry friend? Yes, I know about Huckleberry Finn, and I still don't get it.
It rhymes I guess
@@78smusicman Friend rhymes with end and bend, okay. W tee eff is a huckleberry friend? If anybody knows, speak up.

@@laurencefinston7036 Watch the movie and fall in love with Audrey.
I thought she was canceled?
Not in the hearts of millions of us who knew her true beauty and enjoyed her singing.
