Bangkok for me is also one of those places that if as a westerner you miss a little of that "mall culture" of preceding decades then you'll enjoy your time exploring these spaces. It makes a great mid day break from the humidity and you can catch an evening film at a couple of the superb cinemas.

Yes I second that and completely surprised you didn’t even mention Iconsiam as your usually more through with facts and it’s certainly a lot more interesting than Siam Center 🙂
Iconsiam is way overhyped, imo. Impressive, but not the best in Bangkok....and certainly not the best in the world. There were a couple of floors that didn't impress me in terms of layout and design. That floating market concept is tacky. The terrace views, though...very lovely. Iconsiam is top 5 in Bangkok, I believe....just not sure which #.

I honestly just really enjoy the Chatuchak weekend market, for that damp busy market atmosphere to contrast the cool visits to the Siam shopping area. Siam has been my go-to for decades but next time I’m going to give the other malls that were unknown to me a visit… Bangkok hasn’t been sitting still I see!
The main reason why food court in Terminal 21 is cheap which is compared to the others. Because the owner needs Thai people, tourist including office man come to have the meal there, he had selected the famous restaurants in Bangkok and offered them the lower rental fee that why the price is cheap.
Thanks Chris and Hayley we went to Terminal 21 ,Siam Paragon,MBK and Icon Siam we were only in Bangkok for 3 days so much more things to do but we ran out of time lol next time we go back to Thailand it’ll definitely be more then 2weeks we went to Chiang Mai for a couple of days love it there we’ll definitely will check out the other ones like the last two on your list great videos as always
I did my leg work while living in BKK and learned where to go exactly depending what I'm lookin for,. For the camera and computer stuff head to Fortune mall in Din Daeng MRT station as someone pointed out. They have good second hand camera shop on as it 5th floor, but if you looking for a Film or more rare camera stuff there is this old shopping mall near China town called Mega Plaza which is worth checking out. Also JJ mall is interesting but more for wholesale, they do have lot of coffee equipment and beans if you are a coffee fanatic. I'm now living in Koh Chang and while I don't miss the Big City life I do miss the availability of everything, window shopping and the buzz.. here we rely on Lazada for stuff.
There's a little shop just outside the cash registers for Gourmet that sells the best crispy pork with an awesome green chili sauce. Was my go to for a quick lunch time snack when I was living in the area. T21 has the best toilets though.
Thanks for the great story I moved from there to live in the forest 300 km. away from Bangkok and have never been back to experience this beautiful shopping mall in the city for 15 years.
That food court card system might be so they can keep tabs on the gross take, many malls charge a % of gross as part of the lease agreement. Cash would be too "leaky"..55
In my childhood, MBK was the best at that time. Siam Square area At that time, there was no Paragon. Central Plaza was another shopping mall, where working teenagers have to spend money there. The Em Complex is a bit expensive for middle-income people, so I went there very little, Terminal 21 is where you eat delicious food and pay the least. Icon Siam is a little hard to get to, but good. Everywhere is good too. because there is a cold air conditioner
Been living in Thailand for 20+ years. As an electronics freak, Pantip Plaza is by far my favorite shopping mall in Thailand. Not as cool and hip as the ones you showed us, but when it comes to electronics, it beats them all :D
Old school! My first trip was in 95 and I used to bring back literally 10's of 1000's of dollars worth of software bought at Pantip for 100baht per CD (burned on site while you wait of course)
Haha just wanted to say the same thing! Now I haven't been there in nearly 10 years but every time I visit Bangkok I end up spending a day in Pantip Plaza ;-)
Sadly, it almost empty now…. It was closed for renovation too long and it can’t ’come back’. Look like the another IT plaza ‘Fortune Town Rama IX’ gain more popular now. Maybe it can connect to MRT directly - make it easier to visit.
The malls of Bangkok were the some of the first things that blew me away all the way back on my first two visits in 2005 & 2006. Especially the luxury cars on level 2 or 3 of Siam Paragon. They still blow me away even now lol. I've probably seen more movies at the Siam Paragon movie theatres than anywhere else in the world (not really a movie watcher in the theatres of the USA), so I might have them ranked over MBK for that reason alone..other than that, I think your rankings are pretty spot on. I particularly love the Kinokuniya Book Stores at both Siam Paragon & Emquartier to kill a couple of air conditioned hours during the heat of Bangkok's afternoons...
A great video Chris showcasing the highlights of your 5 selected malls. Of course Icon Siam has a specific appeal being along the riverside and showcasing a remarkable Apple Store and great restaurant selections. I’m also keen on Emporium as I’ve shopped there loads in years past as it’s never to busy and love the gourmet market. Emquartier is always been confusing to navigate. As far as Terminal 21 it’s also a favorite but not so much for shopping, grab a bite to eat, love the variety in restrooms. Do checkout the Japanese thrones they have special treatments! Very informative mall video👍🏻
The arbitrary "Top 5 in the Sukhumvit Corridor" is based on a random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system, and so it means nothing to me! Chris is sometimes intellectually lazy - he should have mentioned a truly spectacular, world class shopping mall - Icon Siam!
Awesome video, I don’t think much of malls but they are now serving so many different things that checking them out can be a couple of hours killed in day when you want to just explore and want to do something but not too much. 👍👌
My top 5 are #1 Central World #2 The Em #3 Central Chidlom #4 MBK #5 Gateway My list is a bit different from yours, Chris. I like your channel. It's fun to watch. Thank you for your work.
I love the MBK. It’s the first time I experienced reclining theater seats way back in 2006, before the US caught on. I went there for years to get the “good” knock off jeans. We just retired to our home in Chiangmai and we need to go back there to shop. Good times.
Really good list, the only shopping mall I would add to this list is the iconsiam shopping mall, breath taking aesthetics from the outside with an unique indoor floating market inside.
Good job on describing Bangkok's beautiful malls. I've been to all of them multiple times as I lived there for three years. My favorite is Terminal 21 mainly because I lived in the immediate area and was convenient.
Great Video. I have a soft spot for MBK, since the first time I came to Bangkok was the early 90s. For pure nostalgia value, I like a trip to Pantip Plaza.
You may wanna explore the Central Westgate at the other end of Bangkok by MRT Purple Line which supposed to be the biggest shopping mall in Thailand as well.
My favorite place to get away from the heat. I like Terminal 21 because it has my favorite beauty care, food court, restaurant (HAVE A ZEED), movie theater and clean bathrooms. I like Paragon for luxury shopping, clean bathrooms and it has great outdoor space for people watching . Their food court had a bad cockroach problem at the tables with the fish tanks on my two different visits. Siam or Central are great for shops and restaurants at the mid budget range. I hate MBK- I’m not impress with the bathrooms, food court, or the lack of friendly service. Tuk Tuk scammers are waiting outside. It does have a great place for me to get my nails done. I can’t wait to explore the new malls that have been built since my last visit.
MBK is my least favorite mall. It’s like an indoor swap meet. I had a major tummy aches after eating food there. Went there once and never went back again. Terminal 21 is my most favorite mall for food.
Love the channel. Heading to the kingdom in late October so subscribed to thainee for a bit of research. Disappointed in the lack of koh chang content as will be there for a week.
My favorite would to be something way off the list for most people, but it has a special place in my heart. It’s a place I use to meet up with my mom after school. It’s a place my dad use to always take us. It’s also a place where I had my first kiss. It’s the Original Central Plaza, located near the Chatuchak Market.
Thank you for the information. I am going to Thailand this June. I have not been to my country for over 10 years. I do not know how much it has changed.
Even though I lived in western Bangkok, but I’ve visited siam paragon more often than any other during these three years. It locates on very center so all of my friends can come both public and private transportation. And It’s easy to move to Siam One or Siam Square. But it’s not good idea for driving car to Siam area on weekend.
My favorite teenager hang-out place in the 70s was SIam Square complex where foreign movies were screened at Siam, Lido and Scala theaters. It was the place to meet and pick-up Chulalongkorn University students and treated them at a Thai hambuger joint named "Ho-Burger". Good old kid days. Now retired and spend more time at The EM-District (The Mall Group) consisiting of The Emporium, The EmQuartier and soon The EmSphere which all are 15 minutes walking distance from home.
MBK for the arcade and deals. Terminal 21 for the mix of quirky shops and name brands as well as the atmosphere. Really coming from the states nothing prepares you for BKK malls. They're mind blowing!
wow. awesome video !!! Here are some questions that I have, open for everyone to answer. Thanks in advance. 1, Will a English only person survive living in Bangkok. 2, What would be the best place to rent for small families. 3, what will be the best school opinions for expat' kids
Great videos mate, on my second 2 week trip to BKK this Thurs 04/07/24 , man do I love this city. I've lived in Bali for over 30 years, KL been there over 20!times, Philippines and Singapore. Nothing compares to Bangkok Thailand. Better than any Asian city I've ever been to. Best food in the world in my opinion.
I have been many Times in Siam and Central World. MBK i will check out in November. Personally i Like Terminal 21 . Prices in Siam and Central World are pritty high for clothing.More expensive than in Europe or Canada. But it worth a visit because there is no other Shopping Area like that .Smooth access with BTS and everthing handy.
Brilliant! I love this episode. I really enjoyed it. 👍 My No.1 is definitely EMquartier! Mainly visit upstairs restaurants. Not a big fan of downstairs food court. I also like Central embassy. There are many nice restaurants, especially Eathai!!!! 😋 Oh and don’t forget Habito mall is also such a lovely local mall in On nut. Great banh mi / Vietnamese restaurant. For me shopping malls in BKK are for eating lovely food, not for shopping high brands.
The MBK and Terminal 21 are the best. You can have good deal and good food court. As for the other malls, you have the same at home and less expensive.
I go to the big Bangkok malls for food and books (I live in Chiang Mai and buy my clothes, etc at small local places). LOVE the Paragon food court and gourmet grocery which you didn't cover. I also like the restaurants in the EM Quartier. Both the Paragon and Quartier have great huge Kinokuniya chain bookstores. I also really like the Lad Prao Central mall (easy to get to on BTS, one stop past Mo Chit), great food and just a really good atmosphere of almost all local people.
I always stay at Terminal 21 Grand center point so i end up in the shopping mall very often, Some great memories watching you there. MBK is just a must goto to say you have been, Its organised chaos :) Siam Paragon is a nice mall, Realy like the convience of them linking up to the next mall. On my last Visit we had a look at Central an you are not wrong about it been big. Anyway Great Video
Love your videos. You definitively should check Asiatique The Riverfront. Its an open mall but you will find an European style flavour in the heart of Bangkok (opposite to Icon Siam) with a lot of a terrasse-restaurant by the Chaopraya river.
As Bangkokian, the 5 best shopping malls in BKK & vicinity are 5/ Icon Siam 4/ Emporium/Emquatier 3/ Siam Paragon 2/ Central World 1/ Mega Bangna = The best by far
For anyone interest about Mega Bangna. It might located in Samutprakarn but it is actually the border area with the Bangkok and you can grab Mega Bangna bus from BTS Udomsuk. Traveling normally take 20-30 minute depend on traffic
wow wow wow ...my previous hotel stay was litterally only a 15 minute walk from your #1 pick .....I had no idea , I will visit next time I go to Thailand. thank you
5 years ago , many people said mall business are dying and be replaced by online shopping. Today right after covid reopening , it seem like mall business are getting being better and better than ever before. Note that even high tech nation like South Korea has just open their new large modern luxury mall called Hyundai Seoul and of course , sucessful and crowded .
If you want to explore more about malls, I recommend you go to East Bangkok. You will find a pet friendly open-air shopping mall called Central Village next to the Suvarnabhumi airport. Not far from the Village, there is Mega Bangna where they have one of the biggest Ikea warehouse if you're looking for home decoration. The Promenade Mall in the North-East Bangkok also has an interesting interior design.
I am sorta glad you didn't mention ICONSIAM - and in general, I agree with your list. I would like to add that CentralWorld also has a great selection of Japanese restaurants on the sixth (?) floor.
It has just been renovated in 2020. The mall has invested another 1,000 million baht ( $33.3 million in those days. ) for this improvement. If you walk again You may not remember
I like going to MBK's cheap food court and to buy souvenirs to bring back home. I also like going to Siam Paragon's huge food court but it took me 3 trips to finally go check out the rest of the mall and had no clue that they had luxury car dealerships (McLaren, Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin, etc...) on the second floor?! Central World is another mall I like eating at but I always lose my sense of direction there because it's enormous.

It was the place to meet and pick-up Chulalongkorn University students and treated them at a Thai hambuger joint named "Ho-Burger". Good old kid days. Now retired and spend more time at The EM-District (The Mall Group) consisiting of The Emporium, The EmQuartier and soon The EmSphere which all are 15 minutes walking distance from home.
going there today paragon. i missed your event at lush had to do a gig that saturday. hope you do another one sometime. .
Icon Siam, Seacon Square, Future Park Rangsit, Mega Bangna, Central Westgate. All is best Shopping Mall at difference areas.
A new video from RWFY is a highlight of my day :)
Thanks for impormision and thanks you for sharing your nice video.
Brilliant! I love this episode. I really enjoyed it. 👍
My No.1 is definitely EMquartier!
I now live in Australia and these shopping malls make Australia shopping malls look cheap.
I'm from Montreal Canada same here our mall's are old outdated living in Asia I realise we going down since 1998 fast
@@phanna565👍
@@phanna565wtf. Im from montreal too. Small world. I was about to say the same 😂
Ngl Westfield is kinda cheap
I'm from Sydney aus and totally agree. Couldn't believe seeing Ferraris 4 sale in paragon up on level 4 or whatever it was
Good list, EmQuartier in my opinion also has the best Starbucks ive ever been to, very cool right at the top.
I loved Siam Paragon - they had car showrooms on one floor. Also, their food court and restaurant area was huge!
Timestamps are awesome!
Please include them in your video description.
Epic, perfect, hilarious pause at :48. Well played, sir
Icon Siam is not on the lists? My favorite is Central World though. I go Thailand ever year Just to eat
He was talking about Sukhumvit area, and ICONSIAM is on the Thonburi side.
Loved your video brother. I can agree to most of what you said except number 1.
Only thing hotter than Bangkok is this awesome vlog.
As Bangkokian, the 5 best shopping malls in BKK & vicinity are
5/ Icon Siam
4/ Emporium/Emquatier
3/ Siam Paragon
2/ Central World
1/ Mega Bangna = The best by far
Mega Bangna is located in Samutprakarn
For anyone interest about Mega Bangna.
It might located in Samutprakarn but it is actually the border area with the Bangkok and you can grab Mega Bangna bus from BTS Udomsuk.
Traveling normally take 20-30 minute depend on traffic
Chris 🇹🇭👍🥳🙏🏼 Thank you for your sharing
wow wow wow ...my previous hotel stay was litterally only a 15 minute walk from your #1 pick .....I had no idea , I will visit next time I go to Thailand. thank you
5 years ago , many people said mall business are dying and be replaced by online shopping. Today right after covid reopening , it seem like mall business are getting being better and better than ever before. Note that even high tech nation like South Korea has just open their new large modern luxury mall called Hyundai Seoul and of course , sucessful and crowded .
I saw you filming in emporium earlier this week for this video :)
I live in Pinklao area so I like The Central Pinklao because it's near my ressident condo. I usaully shop there.
Awesome video ! I enjoy it so much . Thank you for sharing . Have a nice week my friend !
If we are talking food courts...my favorite is Central Embassy in Chitlom. A bit nicer w/really good prices. Try it out.
When the yellow line and pink line finish at the end of this year , you will have more shopping mall & places to visit ,guy!
Why? I’m Thai and I love food court at Central World. Lots of good and delicious fooooood.
This video is 3'days late . We left BKK a couple of days ago.. my girls like Platinum mall... thx !!
Nice video and sense of humour
1. My favorite are Pantip plaza(Electronics) and Platinum (Clothes)
2. Just to add sea world in Siam Paragon❤
At 7:44 minute , Why does the person going up and down the escalator walk backwards? 🤔😅
Mega Bangna is mine, as you can’t get lost. Good selection of restaurants especially outside. The two level walk around is just perfect
I am sorta glad you didn't mention ICONSIAM - and in general, I agree with your list. I would like to add that CentralWorld also has a great selection of Japanese restaurants on the sixth (?) floor.
why not iconsiam?
Love the use of greenery indoors
I had visited Emporium back in 2019 on my short visit to Bangkok. It was a great place to be honest.
It has just been renovated in 2020.
The mall has invested another 1,000 million baht ( $33.3 million in those days. ) for this improvement. If you walk again You may not remember
Central Embassy didn’t get a mention. But Open House there is pretty good and dim sum at the Chinese Restaurant as well.
Are there any services to post stuff back to your home country? So you buy a load of stuff in a mall and they will post it back for you?
I like going to MBK's cheap food court and to buy souvenirs to bring back home. I also like going to Siam Paragon's huge food court but it took me 3 trips to finally go check out the rest of the mall and had no clue that they had luxury car dealerships (McLaren, Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin, etc...) on the second floor?!
Central World is another mall I like eating at but I always lose my sense of direction there because it's enormous.
I would say iconsiam , although its littile be distance from the Asok bts which I usually stay the hotel
Icon Siam - is the most beautiful Shopping Mall in BKK by far! Spectacular River evening Views from the Restaurants too! Very good for evening stroll
Great video! Do you know that at Terminal 21 even the bathrooms are themed?
