To give you some background to those dying towns. I'm from a small city in South Carolina as well. Back in the early 90s, those places were booming. But when the US opened up trading to china, a lot of manufacturing jobs up and left for cheaper labor. My mother was released from her manufacturing job around the time she was about to purchase another home. The name of this company is Blumenthal Mills. This was a company that was a part of the textile industry. The company literally kept our town profitable. My mother and sister worked there and made a really nice income. However, once they started to cut back, the city started to crumble around us. It happened so fast. Our chrismas was no longer the same. Less toys and gadgets sat under the tree, a tree that was quite lower quality vs what we used to get(a live tree). My mother was trapped into a home that started to fall apart. We lived in mold for years because my mother didn't have her same income she once had. She bounced around from job to job as they all started to close their doors. Opportunity for regular people was starting to look pretty bad. We as a family learned how to adjust our expectations as the city continue to crumble at accelerated rates. Now, when I go back to visit my mother, homeless people became more noticeable. It's truly sad to see my hometown fall apart.
Textile mills used to literally own the towns they were in, they owned the company stores, owned the houses on the mill hills, all that. Most of those neighborhoods are in bad shape nowadays

The next long-term occupant was the Department Store, Belk's. Today, the Company Store site sits directly across from Townhall." 20:38 - Yep, I thought it was some kind of Jeep based on the design. It's a 1962 Jeep Willys Wagon (as the comment below beat me to it.) It's often credited as being the first SUV.
Mother drove a Willys Jeep station wagon like vehicle in the winter. It was kinda red/purple and the knobs on the dash were Bakelite. This would have been late 50s early 60s. I remember going out to someone’s farm to cut a Christmas tree.
Route 9 in SC is me and my wife's favorite drive. So mant towns and diners. Lancaster, Pageland, Chesterfield and Cheraw are great visits. I like to spot the old gas station. The Flopeye Diner in Great Falls is my favorite diner, hands down!
My grandfathers home town Chester SC (Neely Welch) is his name never got to meet him heard he was a tremendous man. Drove through Chester in July will stop in town next summer!
A lot of my people are from Great Falls. It died with I-77 and the JP Stevens Mill closing. Great Falls was actually still pretty nice throughout the 90s but as more of my grandparent's generation died, the town just went downhill. The new whitewater center might bring back some business to the area. But it's crazy how dead it is there.
You need to see Fair Bluff,NC in your travels. The town was struck with a 100 year flood in 2016 from Hurricane Matthew and another flood in 201i8 from Hurricane Florence. After the 2016 floods the store fronts on the main drag stood empty. The water line could be seen on the windows of the businesses I would guess four feet high. All the stock at the local hardware store was left in place and mold could be seen growing on the walls. Once the 2018 flooding struck it largely became a ghost town. The town sits on the Lumber River and you can still walk the Riverwalk. It winds through the woods down to the river.
You need to check out Fountain Inn South Carolina main street is maybe a quarter mile and its a very busy town during the week and young folks come at night for food and drinks and entertainment and the weekend has mixture of entertainment and shopping and there is the historic town of 96 that is trying to stay viable along with STAR FORT just outside of town along with the Greenwood State Park 10 miles away, maybe a spring road trip. The "Upstate" is surrounded by nostalgic Old Towns that are trying to survive in the new generation that holds ole'folk lore and hidden gems.
Adam, love old towns like this and the beautiful old buildings! Really enjoyed your vlog and looking forward to your next vlog!! Thank you for taking me along with you on your travels!

Much love and gratitude! 🥰🙏
That stage reminded me of a movie…maybe the greatest showman…
Hey that's a nifty windbreaker!
I work overnights & these rundown town/garbage pail from 1905/grass once walked upon by Roy Disney are great for falling asleep to.....so thank you
20:38 - Yep, I thought it was some kind of Jeep based on the design.
In the midnight hour I always want donuts...Mo MO MO Mo Mo...🤣MO...
Morning Woo😄
I really like the small town episodes, thx.
I think they use the large bags of sand as flood protection.
Thanks for sharing,Adam. Greetings from Australia.
Love these small-town, off-the-beaten-path journeys over the geeky Comicon and Disney stuff.
Pinky's rocks, I just love there food. It is neat seeing regional stuff I would never think of going to. Kinda sad unfortunately.
Another tireless schedule! Keep up the great work!
Love these kind of videos good job 👍
I've never known anyone to get a dirty look off of a Ram!! Only you, Adam!
Haha
Love your videos, Adam, but this type is my absolute favorite. 👏👏🤠
Fantastic signs in this episode
Fountain Inn is benefiting from Greenville overflow. Laurens is another old quiet town.
3:00 precious antique mural
Great Falls, SC actually sells sand for golf courses, playgrounds, horse stalls.
I have missed Adam's small town stuff very much.
Adam, love old towns like this and the beautiful old buildings! Really enjoyed your vlog and looking forward to your next vlog!! Thank you for taking me along with you on your travels!
Our town was fading, but we had a young group of people revitalized our town and we are thriving! You need to come and check out Bellefontaine Ohio and visit Logan County Ohio. Love these videos.
Fun fact:
I did security on a few different filming locations for the movie The Patriot..
Was definitely cool watching them build a "rustic" village in the middle of nowhere, only to see it burn down..
And you were literally right down the road from me..
Have a great day Adam..
Loving the small town life videos! ❤
Great content as usual. These are some of my favorite types of videos
Go get you some biscuits and gravy, and a ball jar of sweet tea ! 😊
Hey Adam that old Jeep looking vehicle I believe is a Willy’s wagon they were really popular in California for surfing wagons back in the late 50’s and 60’s brought by more childhood memories.
I enjoyed the video. A great adventure in exploration and curiosity. After 10 mins though I got a little sad when reality set in.
Adam, you stumbled upon a true classic….the boxy car you found is most likely a 1950’s. WILLYS JEEP. Thoroughly enjoy all your blogs.
thanks Adam for another super great video
