Amazing work! I love footage like this. How rare is it to see from inside a working Corsair?! How few will ever see something like this without the work from people such as yourself? Thanks to you and Jim! 🍻
I remember years ago watching a Corsair air show routine. I was like if I didn’t see a big prop out front I would swear it was a jet. The performance of that aircraft was amazing 👍🏼. P-51 are awesome but the F-4 is magical ❤
Great Video! I love F-4U …….1st time I ever saw one was on Baa Baa Black Sheep! Also saw the F4-U as it was practicing for an AirShow at Westover ARB 2 yrs ago! They were flying over Westover Golf Course! I can’t wait to show my dad ….ty for posting! He retired from 104th FW/ 131st FS Westfield Massachusetts E-8….
Very, very cool video. I'm 65, and my father was in the Marines during WWII. And, I believe he was ground crew in Peleliu, South Pacific. He also went back in the Navy I believe from '55 to '60, serving on Aircraft Carriers. I watch your video of Jim doing an instructional walk through of his Corsair. I appreciated Jim flying with a P-51 Mustang, another "old school" WWII aircraft I'm interested in. I was raised in Coronado (San Diego) right there next to the North Island NAS (Naval Air Station). I (we) would go to the beach and very often watch all the different aircraft fly over the beach on their approach to land on the North Island airstrip. Most of the time they would fly so low we could almost count the number of bolts and rivets on the underside of the aircraft. The oddest one I saw was the E2 Hawkeye state-of-the-art Radar & Communications plane, with the funny looking huge disc riding on top it's back. Thanks for the video, and thanks Jim Tobul for the very cool cockpit view footage. David p.s. I've been living in the Twin Cities, MN since 1978, btw.
Bad ass! Our dad used to do that in Miami in the 50s out of Tamiami airport using a Stearman. I would’ve loved to of had that ride! Excellent comments. 👍👍
O my dear, what a truly fantastic video!! A true Masterpiece!! Thank you from Holland!! You made my day already!! I never felt that close to an aerobatic pilot!! What a feeling!! How small his movements are...
My father, William Stanley Johnson, out of La Habra, Ca. was one such man. Crashed while in practice over seas. Hit ocean hard..sent home to Corona for a long year in a full body cast.. Meant my mother as she was a volunteer Grey Lady nurse heading her floor crew. They created me..I thank them for a beautiful life, each day. Dad loved his F4U..highly praised it. Watching Erik fly, I pretended Erik was my dad. In a way, it gives me a way to appreciate him ( my dad) in a bigger way. Thank you Erik 🐦 Steve in Carmel By The Sea.
Is he using the mask solely for comms? I know that Corsairs had an oxygen bottle behind the seat, but why use it for a low altitude demo flight? Is there an issue with carbon monoxide getting sucked into the cockpit when the canopy is cracked open in flight? Anyone know for sure why it is being used? A related question: Do most piston engine warbirds operate below 12,500MSL? I don't recall having ever seen any pictures of warbird pilots wearing oxygen masks.
I know I'm in the minority, but I really don't like the gyro-stabliized shots that are all the rage these days. Having said that, great performance by Jim!
I understand your point. It’s definitely a niche thing. But this was the best way to get multiple camera angles from just using one camera in the cockpit.
Oh yeah, this definately gets the Bad Ass Award! Astonishing to see from the inside just how wonderful it must be to pilot a Corsair.
Humanity will never make nothing like the piston engine warbirds again. They are incredible.
That beautiful bent wing bird

So cool to see an in-cockpit view of a routine that I was at KOSH to see!! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is so cool man.
We need this in a unlimited on the next air races!
Loved that. First time I've seen views inside the cockpit as in this video. Hat tip to Eric & Jim.
Great video with such a beatiful plane.

R.I.P., Joe Tobul. 🇺🇸🦅🌎⚓🙏🏼
👍🏻…sweet cuban
Impressive routine.
Surprised at the minimal power adjustments required throughout his routine.
I love gimballed gopros, awesome!
Same here. It’s a different kind of editing though. Still getting used to it. But it’s is kinda cool!
Lol the amount of right rudder at 1:28!
Absolutely incredible video. I kept thinking about the young men who flew these planes in combat.

ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING.. THE BEST FOOTAGE IVE EVER SEEN! So how was the camera panning around in the cockpit?
I shot this with the Insta 360 OneR. It’s pretty cool how you can pick where you want the camera to look.
@@ErikJohnstonthat's great
I thought it was hanging on a rubber shoestring 🤓
@@Captain-Nostromo I thought it was my eyes that were made of rubber 😂😂😂😂
I could be wrong but man that cockpit looks roomy and comfortable
It’s considerably more roomy than the Mustang
Awesome video. It appears no parachute. Brave soul. Probably to save weight. Wish he' be equipped with one.
😊🎉❤
Good 👍❤
Thank you! Cheers!
@@ErikJohnston welcome sir
absolutely great footage! Pity though that the landing was'nt included...
Camera ran out of battery.
What cameras did you use?
Insta 360 oneR
Who or what is controling the cockpit camera?
Filmed on an Insta 360 camera. Then I told the camera where to look in editing
@@ErikJohnston Aha! Thanks ! Always wondered about that when I saw similiar in cockpit videos.

Maybe comms, maybe in case of fire. Maybe he’s ex (or current) Navy and still following NATOPS
Probably for the same reason he is wearing a flight suit, helmet and gloves. Gotta look the part to get the chicks😁
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!360
Besides you should have mafe this Video 360 degree active.
Not a bad idea. I may upload the interactive 360 version
Would be awesome
Oxygen?
thanks for no music..fantastic!
Glad you like it!
PLZ Leave the TITLES on the screen longer and STOP placing them where the U-Tube Progress bar is.
reality is completely distorted, I have the impression of having taken ultra-powerful drugs 😂😂😂
