    You’re a life saver for this. I almost spent $680 on a new pump installed (high priced because it was dead in the middle of a storm at 4am) but looked into it, found your video and come to find out had the same issue. Fixed it for free, was back out by 5:30am and plowed all day.

    Very informative video, thank you. I was plowing about a month ago and hit a piece of buried concrete in a blacktop parking lot and it broke the hydraulic line going to the passenger side cylinder and pretty much drained the pump. I was able to secure the blade in the up position and got the truck to the local Fisher plow dealer and they replaced the line. Ever since though, when I move the blade from side to side, it seems to have excessive left to right travel, doesn't seem as tight as it was before. Thanks for giving me ideas to check.

    Thank you very very much. We’re supposed to be getting a snowstorm tomorrow my plow was perfectly fine last storm and now suddenly this I did a quick hydraulic oil change, but apparently that had nothing to do with it. I’m gonna try your method.

    This video is about the "uptake tube" having fallen out of its connection to the pump inside the reservoir tank. It's only held in place by the compression of an "O".
    As to using red ATF fluid instead of the blue low temperature fluid. In an emergency you can use ATF. It works fine at temperatures above 15 degrees. However, it should not be used permanently because at below 15 degrees it will take your battery down quickly and is very hard on your electric pump motor. Thanks to everyone who commented about this issue.

    my pump filter was plugged with slug .hadn't been apart in years .The magnet in the bottom is a good thing but it only takes up what it can .rest goes to the pump .filter. blow out and good to go. my electric motor was getting warm out so the dust ended up down in the tank

    That piece is the suction filter. You need to clean or replace. Clean out the canister and magnet. There is no gasket, instead a large o ring which should be replaced if possible. You can purchase a kit with filter and o ring

    So technically if I wanted to change the whole assembly I could just unbolt all the lines, and both those two bolts slide it out and then bolt the new one in? I've looked everywhere 4 how to do this because mine rotted out in the bottom.

    Thank you for your Service, Sir! I’m up in Northern Canada… should snow any minute. Excellent video, as I Just acquired the same plow. Did you have to disconnect the entire pump/motor to get the bottom out? What is the plastic fill plug for? My plow takes a couple minutes to start working, but works okay after that.

      @Mitts8888 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, just listen to the entire vid.. excellent I’m pulling it apart this morning

    • @gkeppel
      @gkeppel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John,
      Sorry, you're having trouble with your plow. I have never needed to disconnect the power to the pump motor. It is necessary to unbolt the motor to swing it out a bit to allow clearance as I described in the video. If your plow movement is starting slowly, you might want to check your battery for low voltage or a bad ground. The plow does require a strong battery. Also check your fluid to be sure that it is the low temperature type. It must be gray and not red. The wrong type will cause it to be very slow and drain your battery quickly when the temperature drops. Of course you also need enough fluid to keep the reservoir and hydraulic rams full. Good luck!

    there is suppose to be a gasket when you separate the can. also fisher hydraulic is blue they don't run very well on atf. that might be your problem. love fisher plows have worked well for me.

    • @gkeppel
      @gkeppel  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +McCloud Landscaping,
      Yes, thanks for your comment. When I did the video I neglected to see that the gasket on this can was actually a "O" ring under the grime. The problem was not loss of fluid. The pickup tube was only held in by "o" rings and friction, it had fallen into the reservoir, the pump then could only suck up limited fluid, only enough to allow very limited operation.

    Did that cause the power light to blink and plow would not move. Thanks

    • @gkeppel
      @gkeppel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For my Fisher plow, the only light is a small red LED on the dash mounted toggle. It simply indicates that the power was on or off. If it blinks, then you probably have a bad electrical connection. I once discovered that I needed to replace my alternator. When plowing it drew the battery amperage down to where it would hardly lift the plow. After first replacing the battery, I discovered that it actually needed an alternator.

    Question. My plow is jerky going up. The pump sounds good and running fine. All other movements fine. Side to side. Any ideas? Thank you

    • @gkeppel
      @gkeppel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kenny, I'd add a little fluid 1st and if it's not better, take it apart as shown in my video and check the filter screen, the snugness of the uptake piece and of course the fluid level. It really doesn't take very long to do that. Just be prepared to save your fluid and keep it clean.

    I will correct what McCloud said. The New Fishers, mm1 and mm2 don not like the atf, the original mm where they either had belt drive under hood or electric pump on head gear that stayed on truck did take ATF DEX/MERC!! DO NOT USE TYPE F FLUID IN A FISHER EVER

      I got mine used. It looks like it's running red ATF. It's been working but it's slow and now sometimes makes noise when lifting. Would it be safe to add the proper fluid without draining the lines? I just want to dump the ATF out of the reservoir and refill with hydraulic fluid.

    • @gkeppel
      @gkeppel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi James, Sorry I missed your post. Hope it all worked out for you. Mixing the fluid probably only lessens performance, but is still not the best thing to do.

  • @molunkusbob13
    @molunkusbob13 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You never said was it was doing for you to take it apart. My friends plow will not go down.

    • @gkeppel
      @gkeppel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, sorry about that. My plow was working only intermittently and very jerky when it did work. Since I had recently changed the fluid, my reservoir was full and so even without the uptake tube it was able to suck off the surface and still work. If your fluid level is down only an inch or two, it will not work at all without the uptake.
