- Adam Child rode the KTM 990 Duke in Almeria during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Duke family. What do you think about the new "middle class"? Is the fan factor enough to justify any look?

Is anyone else not interested in the 990 Duke because they dont want to waste money and then the "R" version comes out in 3 more months?
My biggest fear.. 🤦🏾♂️
What more can the R version have tho?
HP mainly...
I wish KTM was a little more progressive. With the 990 they could have made it rival the Tuono V4 giving the 990 like 175hp. Then they could have detuned it to what it is now, so that when you get the ECU flash it unlocks the "R" mode.
@@chrissalmon1846 that’s why they have the Super Duke..
@@ChrisVonDoom83 I said rival, not beat. They could have made it anywhere from 140-175.
Suspension settings have lower resolution compared to 890r. It’s a matter of precision in adjusting/finetuning.
3:52 I suspect the braking feels better because the wheels and discs are significantly lighter. Less rotating mass to stop makes a huge difference.
And better suspension
Nice one Chad. You are one rider that lucky fits standard suspension settings as you know. For those who weigh a lot more and are taller will need to tweak the suspension to get more out of it. Say someone of Chopsy size. 😂
I now like the new headlight.
What's the point of buying the 990 over the 1290 when at the end of every year the 1290 is offered with like 3000 EUR discounts?
some short people may prefer a newer & Lighter middle-weight Naked with parallel-twin & seat height 825mm, over an outgoing old heavy V2 Hyper-Naked with seat height 835mm

A Super Duke isn’t heavy.
@@MachoMadness69420 990 Duke = 179 Kg dry & 1290 SDR = 191 Kg. dry
12 Kg. difference is not huge ?
@@MachoMadness69420 1290 SDR is 191 Kg dry & 990 Duke is 179 Kg dry
12 kgs. difference Is not substantial ?
I am 5’6” and have 2022 Gen 3 Busa & 2023 XDiavel & 2021 Trident 660 (179 kg dry like the 990 Duke)
I’m 5’4” and remember test riding the Super Duke back to back with the 790 Duke, the Super Duke was expensive, big, heavy and uncomfortable compared to the Scalpel. I bought the 790 duke, a few years later I’m on the Super Scalpel 890 Duke R, 166 kg dry weight !
Nice looking bike but not worth the £ IMHO. Would rather have the new MT09 SP and spend the balance on my insurance premium.
Whar I dont like is: 1) After paying outright for the bike, you have to pay extra for everything already installed on the bike. 2) As much as I love my 1290 superduke, after owning a triumph street triple I cant believe how bad the fueling is on KTMs.(Especially corner entry)
about point 1: imagine you get the vanilla bike at this price point and to upgrade the specs you need to buy hardware AND software... then it's not just a 2 minute flash but also hours/labour to pay... would that be better or cheaper?
About point 2: how old is your 1290? On my '21 super adventure, the fueling is perfect. Granted, the engine is tuned differently, and the super adv is better at low revs but even though, I suspect your SDR is an older model. Am I wrong?
@@fabiena1787 I've owned 2 superdukes, both 2020 models (gen 3) at corner entry its bad. It does this "lurching" or surging when decelerating or braking hard. The fueling on my triumph is PERFECT. I can ride it as fast as I want.
@@joeridestrijcker445 No extra hardware, you get everything for 1500 kms, then have to pay to keep.
@@fabiena1787 I've owned 2 superdukes (both 2020 model year), at corner entry when decelerating hard, there is this weird lurching/surging that robs you of all confidence, you dont decelerate evenly and it feels like the bike is accelerating when you want to slow down. Apparently its a known thing. I didnt realize how bad it is, until I rode the street triple back to back, night and day. it feels PERFECT, mid corner, on cold wet damp road, it gives you so much confidence, you can ride it as fast as you want. The triumph feels like a well rounded, finished package in comparison to the KTM :( (im still keeping the 1290 though)
Cool stuff. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Its to expensive
Google is showing me $12,500, that isn’t too bad.
Considerng I got my 2023 duke 890r for 10k usd out the door, idk man...
@@ronaldoleon48 i completely get you, my 2017 left over speed triple with zero miles was 10k in 2018. For me, my cut off is $13k usd plus all the bullshit fees. So the 990 is doable for me.
Agree. I got a 1290 Super Duke Evo with everything unlocked a year ago for close to the list price of this 990. The 990 will be discounted by the end of 2024.

13 k for this bike is silly money , on top of that it's going to leak oil or have electrionic issues after week of owning it . Going to stay with my 5 yeras old truble free mt10
It's ugly. Sorry; my opinion. I'm also concerned that tiny lighting on the thing (despite perhaps being "very bright"), could get a bloke killed in the dense, fast traffic just outside modern cities
