    Episode 11 Notes:
    Zaynab Bint Khuzayma RA
Zaynab Bint Khuzayma RA was the fifth wife of the Prophet SAW and her mother was Hind Bint Awf RA. Zaynab RA actually shares the same mother as Maymunah RA which makes them half-sisters. Zaynab RA was married once before to an early convert to Islam called Tufayl RA who, died during the Battle of Badr. The Prophet SAW married Zaynab RA in Ramadan 3AH. Just a few weeks after the Prophet SAW married Hafsa RA.
Zaynab RA’s title was Umm Al Masakin because she was incredibly generous to the poor. Zaynab RA only lived 3-7 months with Prophet SAW and died of natural causes in 4AH. Zaynab RA narrated no Hadiths due to her short life. She is the only wife who the Prophet SAW prayed Salat Al Janazah for and he and buried her in Jannat Al Baqi. Zaynab RA was the first of his wives to be buried in Jannat Al Baqi.
    Umm Salama RA
Hind Bint Abi Umayya is her real name and she is one of the earliest converts to Islam. She was married to Abu Salama RA and both of them were from nobility. Umm Salama RA is from the Banu Makhzum tribe and they were the first couple to migrate to Abyssinia. She had a son in Abyssinia called Salama and his birth was celebrated by the Muslims who migrated there.
Later in life they decided to leave Abyssinia and migrate to Medina. However, they were stopped by Abu Jahal enroute who took Umm Salama RA and her son Salama but, he let Abu Salama RA go to Medina. Abu Jahal did this on the basis of her being from his tribe. When Abu Salama’s tribe the Banu Assad, found out about this they took Salama back from Abu Jahal’s tribe. This left Umm Salama RA alone with the Banu Makhzum and she would spend her days crying for her family. Eventually, Umm Salama RA’s cousins pleaded with the Banu Makhzum to let her go and they did. This also led to the Banu Assad returning Salama to her and she then took Salama to Medina. Enroute to Medina they met Uthman Ibn Talha RA who at the time was a Non-Muslim. Uthman RA decided to accompany her to Medina despite, it being a 10 day journey and later Umm Salama RA praised Uthman Ibn Talha RA’s honour and modesty. Uthman RA took her to the outskirts of Medina and then let her go on her way since it was safe for her to do so.
Umm Salma RA had 4 children with Abu Salama RA, 2 boys and 2 girls. Abu Salama RA participated in both Badr and Uhud. Yet, during Uhud he was severely injured and 1 year later he passed away, making Umm Salama RA a widow with 4 kids. Umm Salama RA would have been in her late 30s at this stage. Due to her noble lineage many people proposed to her including Abu Bakr RA and Umar RA. But, she turned them all down because she truly loved Abu Salama RA.
During this period, the Prophet SAW proposed to her and she wrote him a letter stating that, she has 4 kids to look after, she has a lot of Geerah and she is no longer a young women, unlike his other wives. The Prophet SAW responded to her by stating that, he will do dua about her Geerah, that he would take care of her kids and that he also is also old too. Thus Umm Salama RA accepted the proposal and she moved into Zaynab RA’s old house.
Aisha RA was very agitated and sad when she found out about Umm Salama RA’s marriage. This was because Aisha RA saw her and found her to be beautiful. It was after marrying Umm Salama RA that, the Prophet SAW began the rotation of spending certain nights with his wives. Umm Salma RA had much wisdom and intelligence. It was in her house that, 2 ayahs of Quran were revealed, one of which was the Ayah of the Kiswah and the other was the acceptance of the repentance of Abu Lubaba RA.
Umm Salama RA would ask the Prophet SAW questions about the rights of women in Islam which was unlike any of the other Ummahatul Mumineen. The Prophet SAW raised her kids like his own. Umm Salama RA narrated the 2nd most amount of Hadith, after Aisha RA from amongst Ummahatul Mumineen which, is in the hundreds.
Umm Salama RA was the leader of the rival camp from amongst the Ummahatul Mumineen, Aisha RA being the leader of her opposition. Aisha RA believed Zaynab Bint Jahsh RA and Umm Salama RA, were the most beloved to the Prophet SAW after her.
Later in her life, Umm Salama RA was very politically active and would advise Uthman RA during his Khilafah. She also advised Muawiyah RA during his Khilafah. During the First Fitnah, Umm Salama RA advised Aisha RA against marching to what would eventually become the Battle of the Camel. Despite this she supported Ali RAs camp during the Battle of Camel and even sent her own son Umar Ibn Abi Salama RA to fight on Ali RAs side.
Umm Salama RA was the only wife of the Prophet SAW who was alive during the events of Karbala and she fainted when she found out what happened at Karbala. Umm Salama RA died around the age of 90 years old during 61AH, just a short while after the events at Karbala. Umm Salama RA was the last wife of the Prophet SAW to pass away and she was buried in Jannat Al Baqi, her funeral was led by the Tabi’un.
Fun Trivia fact: Modern day Muslim feminists view Umm Salama RA to be the first Muslim feminists.
Fun Trivia fact: At least 3 Ayahs of Quran were revealed by Allah SWT to Umm Salama RA on feminine related questions. One of which is believed to be Surah 3 Ayah 195.
Fun Trivia fact: Umm Salama RA saw Jibreel AS in the human Dihya Al Kalbi form.

Disclaimer for my Notes of Sheikh Yasir Qadhi’s Ummahatul Mumineen Series:
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh, these are my notes on Sheikh Yasir Qadhi’s the Mothers of the Believers series.
Please note: I HIGHLY recommend that you all watch YQ’s MOB series, as I DON’T cover every single detail the Sheikh mentions. I made these notes primarily for myself but, decided my fellow brothers and sisters may benefit from them too. I no doubt will have made mistakes in my notes. All the good in these notes is from Allah SWT and all the mistakes are from myself. But, I was very meticulous and tried my best to make sure everything is accurate as the Sheikh mentions it.
You also will see I have added “Fun Trivia facts” under each of my notes. These FTFs are information YQ said that was off topic or not necessary to include in my notes for the episode. But, they were still worth mentioning hence the inclusion as FTFs. FTFs aren’t always HAPPY pieces of information. Sometimes they are very sad trivia. I just want to say that FTF is the phrase I used for them all collectively when making the notes.
One thing I wanted to do but am too lazy to do is, maybe someone could take the FTFs from under each “Episode” and make an Islamic reminder/information IG/TikTok account and post them daily or something. Could be a great form of Sadaqah Jaariyah.
Please keep me in your Duas and ask Allah SWT to forgive all our sins during this blessed month and beyond! Ameen
