Really interesting. It's always amazing how different clubs have different fee policies.
I don't pay an improvement fee. Only non-golf members at my club pay a range fee and storage fee. I don't pay a trail fee (Dan does). This was key to me picking the club I did. I do pay a locker fee because we don't have enough lockers. I don't have a food minimum but my last one did. I do pay a set 18% for service which I prefer instead of having to figure out the tip every time. Our house charge IS a tip for employees and only a tip for servers. We've lumped everything in to the one base rate. Coming from a previous club to this and comparing it to Dan's, I like our method the best. It's clear cut and simple.

That is interesting. I think the way your club does it sounds more straight forward. I would agree that if the service charge was a tip, I would like it as it makes things easier and more straight forward, but to do the dance of figuring it all out if not is what I don’t like. I understand the shortage of locker space and storage to charge, like I said if it was unlimited, every old guy would have 100+ clubs up there from their entire career. Thanks David for the insight and sharing! May I ask what area of the country your club is in? Midwest, East Coast?

@@SeekingBirdiesGolf Yeah. Club Storage is free for golf members but extra for non-golf members (tennis members). Locker storage is extra for everybody due to limited availability. Yeah my club is also a no tipping club. You can only tip valets and caddies. You don't tip bag drop and no one really tips extra to bartenders or waiters. No one is allowed to tip cart boys or any other staff. I love it. It's just easy to not have to worry if you have an extra $3 in your pocket for the guy loading your bag into your cart. Also, no one is allowed to tip at Christmas to individual staff. You're only allowed to donate to the Club Holiday Fund. Way easier and removes the ability to gain favor with certain staff. The "trail fee" is insane. It encourages people to take carts. Cart golf is so inferior to walking golf and so much better for your waistline.
      I'm in Baltimore.

I think the club i am looking at charges a walking trail charge of $20 per round. This seems unreasonable, can this be negotiate

Good to see you back Tyson!!
Having worked at Country Clubs the more these clubs charge their member for the more their members think they should get. Walking fees nope, If a member is paying a cart trail fee and a maintenance fee, well that is banging the bucket twice. I can see reduced rates for buckets of balls for the range and non members pay full price. And as far as service charges added to food prices, just raise the food price. SERVICE CHARGES just confuse the guest as GRATUITY.

Hey Anthony, thanks! I completely agree! I think the more fees, the more confusing it will be. I like the option for the range as some members probably won't use it but at the end of the day, what are dues and what do they cover? Thanks for the input Anthony!

    Here’s a good one…
The long time pro retired. His contract gave him the range fees for the private club. Our Board decided they should charge the members his approximate income for the range.
And the range pass fee is now the same as the retired pro charged.
I have suggested members pay to offset the new line item income the board has made. But some members say they don’t hit range balls so should not have to pay a range fee. Is the range fee just an obligation for all members to pay as all other expenses to belong ? Just to be fair and equal for all members.?

Hey! Everything is good, I have been playing a bunch; just not filming right now. I will start making videos again once the courses dry out a little more. I have some good stuff in the works, by mid May, more videos will be coming out. Thanks for the invite! Let's plan on it this summer!
