The Robert Trent Jones Trail down in Alabama has 11 complexes each with 2 full 18 holes courses plus most have an 18 hold par 3 course that is a great test. Inexpensive to play and always in great shape. They are spread across the state so you can make a week long golf trip out of 3 of them which are probably only going to be a 50 mile drive from your base. Condition is always great and the people are extremely hospitable. I have played both courses at 7 of the complexes on golf trips down there, all great.

@@breakingeighty One of the best experiences I have had traveling for golf. Lots of diversity in course design across the trail and even between the courses at each location. The Shoals is definitely the most slept on location in my opinion. The courses rock, Florence Alabama is the best kept secret in the south, and the rock and roll history with the muscle shoals studios was worth the trip alone. Get the trail card though, saves you a lot of money if you're planning more than 3 rounds.

Consider The Links at Lawsonia Golf in Wisconsin. When people think of Wisconsin golf, it's Whistling Straits, Black Wolf Run, Erin Hills, Sand Valley and Grand Geneva. But The Links at Lawsonia is an incredible gem. Built in the age of steam shovels in the 1920s and designed by architects Bill Langford and Ted Moreau, this 100 year old golf course still packs a punch. Elevated greens, wide open expanse of site lines, dramatic elevation throughout the track and oh so reasonably priced compared to the courses listed above. It's a must for any avid golfer.

Great video. I have been to several of these spots, and have a trip planned to Forest Dunes in Michigan. I love checking out resorts like these. Might I suggest a resort that our golfing group just loves....The Prairie Club, in Valentine , Nebraska. Fly to Denver or Kearney, Nebraska. Definitely play also Wildhorse in Gothenburg, Nebraska. The Prairie Club is beautiful and legitimately in the middle of nowhere.

Paako Ridge (about 1/2 hour outside Albuquerque) is gorgeous and affordable. At one time it was ranked as high as number six for best public courses. While you are there, you can also play the University of New Mexico championship, course, and Sandia golf club. Probably about the best golfing experience that you could have with three affordable golf clubs close together.

My son, who is in my profile picture, just became a PGA Pro six months ago, and fortunately for him, he gets to play these beautiful courses at Reynolds for free whenever he wants to. My wife and I are moving down there to live in six weeks and can't wait. For anyone who hasn't been, it is absolutely beautiful, well maintained, and if you are a true golfer, will absolutely love the variety that's there. Every course is fantastic, but the one that sticks out to me is Great Waters, the Jack Nicklaus course that you talked about here. It was redone a few years back and it is just astoundingly beautiful. Fantastic video on your part. You are passionate about your reviews and your content is genuine. I look forward to more in the future. Thank you.

Another Michigan course - maybe not as under the radar but definitely remote is Greywalls @ Marquette Golf Club

Hard to take this seriously. Really missed by not putting in either The Prairie Club, Dismal River or the new CapRock Ranch in the western Sandhills of Nebraska. It’s a booming spot for golf last few years. CapRock Ranch is technically private like Sandhills Golf Club(very exclusive, you will not get on) but you can call and negotiate for the right price.
Also check out Mt Washington Resort Golf in New Hampshire. That was a great experience in the fall with the leaves turning orange/red.
But if you’re a golf enthusiast you NEED to go stay and play those Nebraska courses mentioned. Hopefully you get great weather. Personally I’d shoot for September if possible.

You should check out historic French Lick, Indiana. The Donald Ross course is unique and excellent, the Pete Dye course is like playing golf in heaven. You could loop in Victoria National if you can get on this Dormie Network course or swing over to Sultan’s Run, a really solid public course. French Lick also offers a casino and numerous other activities.

  • @MikeBodo

The French Lick Resort in French Lick, IN should be on this list. It doesn't get the recognition or traffic Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, Bandon, Kiawah and other more well-known resorts do, but it boasts two exceptional 18 hole golf courses in the Ross and Dye and the 9-hole Valley course, designed by Tom Bendelow, is not to be overlooked. The French Lick Springs and West Baden hotels are among the country's most historic and iconic and the property itself is about an hour and half drive from either Indianapolis or Louisville international airports. There's a Casino attached to the French Lick Springs Hotel, that is a fun night out, in additoin to many excellent dining options between the two hotels, golf courses and the town of French Lick itself. It's kid/family friendly and there are a lot of fun activities to partake in besides golf. If you've never been, you need to go as you will be blown away.

I’ll stick to the 50th state and it’s main islands:
Hualalai is truly an experience. There’s a few great resort experiences outside Kona on the Big Island which kick our courses on Oahus butt. Try to finish at sunset.
On Oahu turtle bays resort and the Palmer course is pretty cool. The fazio course is still closed since civid but has looked playable ever since. They are removing bunkers and eventually plan to open it as a more simple family course. They should be pushed to do so.
Mauis kapalua resort with the bay course and plantation course is a must experience. Overlooking honolua bay, arguably the ost beautiful place on earth.
Wailea not far away is a cool place.
Nothing comes to mind on Kauai but Kauai is such a special place. You will find a resort course although seems to not be as many s Maui and the big island. I would say those are the two for a lot or resort golf variety.

I guess we have a different concept of "Golf Resort". A hotel or lodge with just a single golf course doesn't fit my definition. I believe, like at Turning Stone, there should be a minimum of 2, distinct, 18 hole layouts to be considered a "Golf Resort". Where Golf is the main attraction, not just an add-on for a casino or hotel. That said, I've heard of each of the spots you mention, and would enjoy playing at each of those locations. Enjoy your newsletter, and admire the way you've used it to gain access to many private and/or upscale clubs. Good for you.

Both spectacular courses for views, amenities, experience and challenging courses with outstanding service. We are going back to play both courses again and include Ozarks National this time. Plus, the 9 hole Nicklaus course, the 13 hole Player course and a new 9 hole course being built called Cliffhangers. We absolutely cannot say enough great things about this facility. It definitely should be a destination trip for any golfer.

Good list. Although I thought Arcadia Bluffs was not the best designed golf course. They could have done better with that plot of land. Didn't play the South Course.

Have you ever been Garland Lodge & Resort? It's in Lewiston, MI. They have 4 excellent courses and is very reasonably price. Our yearly golf trip goes there.

Sunriver note: The lodging options are effectively in rented out, furnished condos and townhouses, with many different amenity options (private hot tubs, trail access, etc.), so depending on your trip makeup (buddies vs. family) pick and choose the lodging that best fits your needs, as they aren't all the same.

Well in Bend I agree Crosswater is best course in the area but the Nicklaus course at Pronghorn sucked. Aspen Lakes and Black Butte and Tetherow all better than Pronghorn.

Ok im from the midwest and play a lot of Michigan golf and not 1 person has ever said Forest Dunes is better then Tree Tops!!! Forest Dunes is great but Tree Tops is just the best in Michigan!!

Michigan's loaded with lots of great multi-course resorts (Treetops, Boyne Highlands, Boyne Mountain, Forest Dunes, Gull Lake, Lakewood Shores, A-Ga-Ming, Crystal Mountain, Island Resort in the UP, and the best of all...Arcadia). Personally, I'd take Forest Dunes over Treetops, but can't argue with your enthusiasm about that facility. (4) tremendous 18-hole championship courses plus the best par-3 course on Earth in Threetops is tough to beat. But, Forest Dunes in my humble opinion is just sparkling. Fantastic mix of elevation changes, wooded holes, open holes with waste areas, and nary a blade of grass out of place on the entire property. Great stuff.

A GOLF RESORT has to have more than one 18 hole course. Three to add to these somewhat "unknown" or less popular resorts. Seaview in coastal #1...New Jersey near Atlantic City. [2 courses] #2...Glade Springs in West Virginia [3 courses] #3...Dancing Rabbit at Pearl River Resort [ hotels & casino] in Philadelphia MS. [2 courses]

Whitewater just outside of Thunder Bay Ontario is pretty bad ass and its under $100.00 per round in Canadian Dollars so i think thats somewhere around 90 cents American... come on man!!! You cant do better. Alice Cooper frequently flys there just to play golf. Seen him a few times.
