Anyway, when I came here the number of cyclists on the road was very limited. There has been a cycling explosion in recent years. Rapha kit or not, more people on bicycles is always a good thing. At least now they do not only manufacture bikes, some of them ride them too.
Some years ago I discovered that many companies(even ones you think are more engineering-ey) have more marketing staff and larger marketing budgets as compared to r&d budgets and staff. This always kind of bothered me because someone has to pay for all that marketing(ads, staff, etc). And a large marketing department doesn't necessarily increase the quality of the engineered product. I'm really skeptical of marketing claims because I may not be conversant on the principals which the marketing material allude to. I mean, you can say 'aerodynamics' to me and unless I already understood actual basic university-level physics, the wool could be easily pulled over my eyes! And so I rely on the ability of others who DO have the appropriate science background to explain these things to me in laymen's terms. However what happens to society when these people are silenced?
