LITTLE TIPS#4 What to look for in an old lathe

  • A quick video on things to consider before buying an old lathe like a Hercus, South bend, Atlas etc.
    Great lathes with fantastic torque in low range and solid machines from the ground up with two factors that can mean the difference between a lemon and a bargain.
    I forgot to mention look for grease in places it shouldnt be, like oil holes.

      If that is the brand/type of lathe, I am sorry to say I have never heard of it. That doesn't mean it is unfixable. Of it's an old girl, it will still work in a similar fashion to any other lathe. What seems to be the problem with it?

    Saw one for $200 today & this shows me just how much is missing. It’s got the Bed,Chuck,headstock & yeah that’s it. Think I’ll pass

      Yeah good choice, $200 would be worth it for the parts but not much help if you don't already have one
