As to the Mauna Kea glacier (formed during the Ice Ages, long since melted off), that volcano is tall enough to get get snow during the winter and sometimes even during the dry summer months. If you ever get the chance to go up either Mauna Kea or Mauna Loa, I didn't do either of the hikes but took the driving tour, bring a jacket no matter how warm it might be at the bottom.

the "grey" in greysexual and greyromantic is for "grey area", meaning falling in between total asexuality and allosexuality (opposite of asexuality), or romance respectively. grey-ace and grey-aro are umbrella terms for various identities that don't fit completely and exclusively into either camp.

    • @dorktriogamer2865
      @dorktriogamer2865 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Also a good piece to be noted is that while there is a term for asexual/romantic as in not being interested at all, there's also the term for the community or umbrella, as it will include greysexuals/romantics as basically not allos, and there is a lot of greys who will introduce themselves as fully ace/aro to avoid talking about the nuances

Ok! I have studied Aztec mythology and I gotta tell you there is SO much more to it than just Human Sacrifices. I realized sometime around highschool that I couldn't think of anything I really knew about Aztec myths and media about it is very often untrustworthy because they generally make it as bloody and exotic as possible to represent it in contrast to what characters are typically familiar with. So I started doing my own research and found that Aztec mythology is really interesting!
There was a running theme in Aztec myths of Duality and Cycles of Creation and Destruction. The Gods originated from a being called Ometeotl the Deity of Duality who is basically like a personified Mexican Yin and Yang that's half Male and Female who then has 4 children called collectively The Tezcatlipoca, although only 1 of them is actually named Tezcatlipoca. They are Tezcatlipoca The Black
    Quetzalcoatl The White Tezcatlipoca
    Huitzilopochtli The Blue Tezcatlipoca
and Xipe Totec The Red Tezcatlipoca
(Yes this story conflicts a little with the Coatlicue story, don't worry this is not the only time these gods are given a birth story, in fact rather than a bug it's a feature with Quetzalcoatl as being reborn over and over is just something he does.)
Just focusing on Tezcatlipoca and Quetzalcoatl they prime examples of Duality and specifically Conflict vs Community
Quetzalcoatl is pretty much the nicest and most personable of the Aztec Gods, he created humanity by giving us some of his own blood, he constantly looks out for the wellbeing of humanity teaching humans Agriculture, Astronomy, Math, Writing, etc, he gave humanity gifts like music and Chocolate, and he's a patron of the arts and artisanship encouraging bringing people together, creating, trading, learning from each other, and building up peace and prosperity.
(Also I almost forgot to mention, Quetzalcoatl is the most notable aztec god who's worship did not involve of Human Sacrifices, and Quetzalcoatl was said to not approve of the practice at all. His worship mainly consisted of small offerings of Food, Sea Shells, and Cocoa beans)
Tezcatlipoca is a constant problem for everybody in Aztec Mythology. The moment everything seems like nothing bad could possibly happen Tezcatlipoca always shows up to ruin the fun and specifically has a rivalry with Quetzalcoatl. I'll let you see some of his hijinks yourself in the 5 Suns myth...

The thing about the glacier in Hawaii is that it would have formed a very long time ago. Think ice age. And while Hawaii is on a hotspot the sheer altitude of the mountain may have somewhat negated that. Plus it’s possible that it was formed at a time when the volcano just wasn’t very active. So it’s really weird but makes sense in the same way that deserts once being underwater makes sense. Time changes all things.

4:30 Actually, they still hated it. Back then, daughters were kidnapped by random people, and mothers were *heavily* distraught about it. I'm talking tying-the-noose and not having kids so that they wouldn't have to live in this hell type distraught. So, this story served as a comfort for these mothers that might have never seen their daughters *ever* again. This story was supposed to say that the mothers could still do something, that there was hope. That's a massive reason why people hate Lore Olympus nowadays; they portrayed this as a forbidden Romeo-&-Juliet type romance, and Demeter as this controlling bitch.

Ever since I started watching Red's breakdowns on Greek mythology, the image of Hades, lord of the underworld, as a soft goth boy who loves his wife, named his dog "Spot", and does his job well despite everyone giving him such a bad rep has been permanently etched into my brain. To the point where, in my own homebrew TRPG setting I've been running with my friends for two years now, one of my world's dragon gods was heavily influenced by OSP Hades. They're a soft goth enbi skeleton dragon god of death and the afterlife, they have a huge spiritual garden where they escort lost souls to the astral plane, and they are the twin sibling of the dragon goddess of life and rebirth. With regards to how Hawaii has/has glaciers on volcanoes it's quite simple. The volcanos get tall enough that you hit low pressure and below freezing temperature air all year round and any moisture rising from the sea below becomes snow as it's blown up the mountain, more just easier a few thousand years and you'll have a glacier on a volcano created island.

Funny thing about the brutality of Aztec Mythology:
You could take Warhammer Fantasy, replace the gods, location, weapons, units and aesthetic with an Aztec equivalent, and the only two differences you could notice is a lower grade of technological development and more deities. And just ONE blood god? Weak sauce. But there were other ways to describe them: Pessimistic is one way. No joke: when a child gets old enough, the first thing they are taught us that life sucks. Then they shave that kid's head, except for a single tuft of hair, call that their "shame" and then say that this literal mark of shame can't be removed until they cone of age. At least, for boys.
Side note with Hades: Red's depiction of him is half-right. True, he was a loving husband, caring father and doting dog owner (y'know, classic dad stuff), but two phrases that don't describe him are "Mild-Mannered" and "Bleeding Heart." In fact, "Stoic" and "Hardass" fit more accurately. He was a stickler for the rules of Life and Death, rarely bragged about anything, and was so stone-faced that Orpheus was the only person that could get him to shed even one single tear. Epictetus, Aristotle, and the Five Emperors of the Pax Romana WISH they were as Stoic as this guy. Supergiant's HADES was actually pretty on-point, even how ge will fight you if you try to escape. He wasn't evil though, since he's also honorable, honest, a fair and decent boss and Greece's first sugar daddy. No joke: he's literally the richest god in the Pantheon (at least until that other God of Wealth showed up) because, as king of the Underworld, EVERYTHING under the earth was technically his. Except for Pearls, because of Poseidon.

I don't think you realize just how massive and tall Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa are. From base (at seafloor) to peak they each dwarf Mt. Everest. In terms of total volume...dude, the crust beneath the island of Hawaii actually forms a significant depression because of the weight of the volcanoes! Kilauea is the third (and most active) of the volcanoes on the Big Island but there is actually a fourth volcano people don't know about because it rarely erupts and also because a major hotel resort was built right on top of it. This fourth volcano also tends to have Mt. St. Helens style explosive eruptions, so that's going to be a fun day when it wakes up again. There is also the seamount just offshore from Kilauea. One day it will have grown enough to connect to the Big Island making it even bigger bringing the grand total of volcanic conduits on the island up to five!
My reason for knowing all this? I just like geology and I find volcanoes to be fascinating. I can never remember volcano number 4's name and am too lazy right now to look it up. But the USGS knows its there and monitors it along with all the other dormant volcanoes in the States and territories. They're pretty good about getting warnings out before anything actually dangerous happens, but...people don't always listen...and then they get blamed when people die...even though they were warned to STAY AWAY FROM KILLER MOUNTAIN! Sorry. Pet peeve.

I'm sorry, Airier, but she has not yet done deep dives on either Zeus or Hera, though both do feature in a lot of myths (obviously).
@12:10 so Grey-romantic/grey-sexual means that they don't always feel romantic or sexual attraction. On both the ace and aro flags, they have white (experiences attraction regularly), grey, and black (no attraction, period) stripes to help represent this. Grey is just meant to show that it's in the middle of a spectrum.
@18:14 Ailau flips out because Pele is spiritually more powerful than he is. It is actually not unheard of for women to be more powerful then men in Hawaiian belief. Keōpūolani had more power than her husband, King Kamehameha I, meaning he had to remove his malo in deference to her, according to traditional beliefs, never mind the political power she and Ka'ahumanu (another of Kamehameha's wives) had.
@20:44 Yes, there's a glacier in Hawaii. 3 of the mountains are high enough to get snow fall and the occasional blizzard. Honestly, the only state in the US that doesn't get snow is Florida, not Hawaii. The tallest mountain, Mauna Kea (which is actually taller than Mt Everest, just most of it is underwater) is literally named after its snow (White Mountain is the name in English). Also Hawaii is not on the equator, the main islands are just a bit south of the Tropic of Cancer (which is 23.4 degrees above the equator, or 1,621.5 miles), putting the islands in the Tropics. But most of the North-West Hawaiian Islands are not in the tropics.
@21:14 Yes, Lava sledding. You sled on long cold lava flows, not active lava. I sadly have never done it, but I've had plenty of classmates who have. Most likely it's done on pahoihoi lava, as that's the smoother of the two kinds you get with shield volcanoes, which are what make up most of Hawaii. Airier actually was correct on how the islands formed, which I'm impressed by. Most don't know about it.
For my sources: I am Aro-Ace, and I grew up in Hawaii (on Oahu). And yes, you don't piss off Madame Pele if you want to have a good time. Red actually has some of the better pronunciations of Hawaiian words I've heard of from someone who hasn't lived in the islands.

Red has not covered in depth videos on the lore of Hera or Zeus yet iirc, and she has gone on record stating she will NOT cover their marriage and consummation because it’s quote “so completely far from consensual she can’t even joke about it.”
If you’re morbidly curious, there was a storm outside of Mt. Olympus, and a little cuckoo dove landed on Hera’s windowsill. In the kid-friendly but slightly f***ed up version, Hera took pity on the poor bird, nuzzles it close and declared she loved it. Then it turned into Zeus, smug as could be and having secured a promise of marriage. In the REALLY F***ED UP version, Zeus just “took advantage” as soon as she drew close…
And we WONDER why she seems miserable so often.

So the grey part is more a thing of everything isnt black and white so someone who is greysexual like myself it means people who experience limited sexual attraction. In other words, they experience sexual attraction very rarely or with very low intensity.

I say this as someone who is in a similar boat; this honestlynsounds like people just have taste, or just aren't... ahem, "in the mood." Like, I think girls and androgynous characters are hot, and I like everyone romantically, and anyone anesthetically, but I don't feelbthis way about every single person I come into contact with.
Is it like that? Am I misinterpreting everything, and looking like an idiot?

So, I am a huge nerd for Proto-Indo-European and reconstructed mythologies for ancient Indo-Europeans and whatnot. The stuff about Cerberus, or roughly Kerberos in Greek, meaning 'Spot' or 'Spotted' is...unfortunately a very outdated idea, which is sad, because its very funny. Allow me to summarize a very complex topic.
Linguists in the 1800s noticed that, in the Rigveda, the oldest surviving Sanskrit texts, the word śabála-, meaning 'various in color' is used to describe the two dogs of Yama, god of the underworld. They quickly hypothesized a connection to Greek Kerberos, and suggested an original meaning like 'spotted'. This, however, requires collapsing a whole class of Sanskrit adjectives down to a single root with a dubious meaning, and most researchers today are pretty sure the adjective was actually describing how the two dogs of Yama are each a different color: one white, one black. There've been attempts to find cognates in other languages families, but the best that've been found are a Celtic word meaning 'soiled, dirty' and a Slavic word meaning 'sable (the animal)'. Suffice to say that the meanings of these four words, taken together, don't lead to an obvious conclusion of a PIE parent term that means 'spotted' and their relationship to each other is further disputed.
Now, one thing researchers *are* confident on is that the ancient Indo-European mythology included some kind of underworld, or entrance to the afterlife, with an associated dog, because that motif appears in practically every well-attested mythology from the daughter groups. But their names don't bear any obvious connections and don't appear to be descended from a single word. In fact, there's good evidence of there originally being a pair of dogs: the Rigveda above describes that, as do a few other Indo-European mythologies, and Cerberus himself being multi-headed and depicted with two heads in early vases might be an indication that he's two dogs that got merged together somehow in the culture's version of the story.
There's also one big reason to doubt that 'Kerberos' comes from Proto-Indo-European at all: the word would require a PIE root with the phoneme /b/, which is borderline nonexistent in the reconstructed language (there are incredibly few examples of roots that can be reconstructed to have it, and all of them are disputed). This points to the word either being a later Greek coining (though we don't know from what roots it could be coined) or, more likely, a loanword from one of the neighboring, non-Indo-European cultures, or possibly from whatever peoples inhabited the Balkans before the Greeks.
Suffice to say that there have been many, many attempts to find the etymology behind the name 'Kerberos' and basically none of them are better than others, but all linguists today agree that this particular one is bunk and wishful thinking on the part of 19th century linguists jumping to conclusions.

“They call me evil. Villain. The Devil. But the joke is on them. For I don’t care what they call me. I don’t care what they think of me. I have a duty to fulfill, and such petty things can not detract me from responsibilities.
All Gods have a duty to the world for we are bound to it and it’s people. But only *I* take it seriously. Only *I* don’t treat the world like my playground and the mortals as my playthings.
I am firstborn of Kronos and eldest of the Olympians. Cheated out of my birthright by my own family, my own siblings! Yet I got the most important job of all, dispite no one knowing it. For in the hands of any of the lesser mature Gods I call my family, the dead would flood the world of the living.
So let them spew their lies. Let them believe their falsehoods. It makes no difference nor matters not to me. After all…” *sly smirk* “All become my subjects eventually.”

11:00 actually that myth is not accurate, it’s just EVERYWHERE, and this video was back when Red didn’t do as thorough research on things. In the later Orion video she made she found that there are more myths about her “deleting” Orion. One myth involving that subject was when he was pursuing her friends the Pleiades, which is the name of a star cluster near the constellation Orion, and how they, plus the constellation Scorpio (which represents the scorpion Artemis sent to “delete” Orion), were used to delineate certain times of the year.

Artemis and Orion being a thing is definitely not as clear-cut as it sounds. I feel justified in pulling out a "just friends" interpretation because Orion was a hunter, which Artemis would have appreciated regardless, and also depending on the version, Artemis may have been the one who killed him. So it's not actually "canon," just a popular fan theory because whenever historians see a woman who was famously single for life the immediate priority is figuring out which historical guy she was secretly boinking all along.

It's not unusual that Hawaii has at least one ice-capped mountain. Indonesia and the Philippines have multiple ice-capped mountains, and they're also in the tropics and sub-tropics. If a mountain's peak is high enough where it can reach altitudes where the air is thinner and the temperature is colder, ice caps can form if there's enough precipitation. Think back to 4th grade earth science, the higher up you go the thinner the air is and the colder the temperature is, the atmosphere acts like a blanket, helping to hold in heat, the air is thinner at higher altitudes because it's more spread out and the thinner the atmosphere is, the less efficient it is at holding in heat.

11:26 you can consider the relationship between Orion and Artemis in FGO to be rather complex and intentionally dysfunctional. They have a sense of love for eachother but their are reasonable complications. Artemis’s idea of love can be seen as stunted or twisted due to being a virgin goddess so has a limited understanding of love and due to this borderline childish attitude towards love her behavior and maturity towards love also reflect that of an out of control child.
And orions acts of flirting with other women could be seen as him preventing his love with Artemis from getting perverted by sexual vices due to her virgin goddess status. So him flirting with other women help him cope with his relationship with Artemis without shaming her with sexual desires on top of just being a Greek hero whose desires must be sated.
