I was waiting for this one and it didn't disappoint, what a nice surprise to close out the year. It's crazy to me how ineffective Frieza is at Zoning compared to someone like Super Baby 2. It isn't the greatest Zoning in the world, but the fact that his Projectiles have the boomerang effect in combination with the rest of his kit makes it so he can at least serve the role somewhat well, lol
Baby isn't even half as good as Frieza at zoning, the boomerang thing doesn't make them any harder to Super Dash through, especially since Baby has a decent amount of end lag on his Ki Blasts, it's not terrible, but it's enough to catch on simple reaction.
Clearly the answer to these woes is to give him chip damage on par with BlazBlue's Amane, which is so absurd without barrier that you're almost better off just taking the damage raw. It wouldn't really be balanced, but it would be very funny.
They should have made Frieza the Vergil of this game. A feared, dreaded character who's EXCELLENT at spending meter with 2 lost teammates and ruining your day. Bad at building meter, however.
Just having chipp won't help. You get Blue HP Frieza doesn't have much mix so it's not scary. It's still not forcing you to run in and make him stop. Or mashing reflect.
@@Strider315 definitely projectile priority, better chip damage, warp blast not being complete shit and actually tracking the opponent, giving him some of his season 1 stuff back that was removed for no conceivable reason, having his special knockdown level 3 be able to hit opponents without Frieza BEING EASILY PUNISHED, and giving him a few more moves he can use without needing Golden form to do anything, like how they gave Baseku a special Midair 2M based on his 2S. Maybe giving him ALL of this is a little too much, but if he had at least SOME of these, he would be far more usable.
Yeah, like Plushy and Bagel said, they are not buffing _Frieza_ , they are buffing _Golden Frieza_ , Frieza is the character you unfortunately have to start with and play with until you get 3 bars and a chance to call your third character, and then there is a risk that you will lose access to your third character at some point if you don't tag him out frequently. A really weird handicap.
Looking back at this, I honestly agree that Freeza should get more substantial chip damage It would not only fit a zoner type character like Freeza, but would also fit thematically The whole point of Freeza's character is that he'd rather tear apart and poke holes in his opponents slowly rather than end them immediately He's a sadistic ruler who makes his opponents suffer before giving them the sweet release of death. just look what he does with the Z Fighters in the namek saga (impaling Krillin, blasting beams into Piccolos body, wrecking Vegeta not only physically but emotionally, and destroying Goku to the point he had to surpass his limits with the Kaioken and rely on the spirit bomb)
@@MoldyBagel not really 21 trunks broly vegito are better zoners than frieza the problem is frieze is just bad not character’s having good neutral tools like broly.
During the pre release stream introducing either Super Baby 2 or SS4 Gogeta, the devs made a joke and chuckled at the thought of anyone still playing Frieza. They know how bad he is.
I had some feeling it might be a possibility but I saw it creeping in a little in this video so now I gotta ask When are we getting a full-length video dedicated to how ridiculous Broly is in numerous aspects
And yet I have the nerve to have players complain about my zoning with Frieza lol. To anyone that reads this, if you lose to Frieza's zoning you're just a terrible player.
What reward does he get from it none of his moves jail into vanish and chip barely exists in this game his best zoning tool Ex death slash can be avoided with super jump float and requires the frezia player to spend half a bar not only limiting its use but also locking frezia out of his golden form, and all for what it gives zero reward if they block it how is that good zoning? even on hit you end up spending 1 bar and a half just to do the move and get any sort of reward off it.
Slight statistical error at 5:13, they didn't change it so that sparking extended Golden Frieza's timer, it actually just pauses the golden timer all together. So you can actually get much more time out of the transformation if you wait til it's about to end to use your sparking.
perhaps the next set of 365 days has something great in store for our quite unlucky, unfortunate, great leader! Thank you for all the great videos Moldy and happy new years!
The sad part is he's genuinely fun as fuck, so slippery feeling and throwing out 1000 projectiles at a time. Honestly if they just gave him more priority on most his moves that'd be a great start to let him stand his ground. Idk about Golden Frieza. Should they make it a level 5 super and make it permanent? Or at least double the length. Maybe it could be like Ultimate Gohan or Ginyu's level 1 where you can dump more bars into it for a longer duration! Also, revert the nerfs for his assist tracking and jailing. Idk why those ever happened. He needs so many little fixes like for Die By My Hand, his Golden crossups, his aerial ki blasts, his reversal, the list goes on...
I still want to know why Death Wave/whatever move the assist is based on counts as a projectile I never played Frieza really but it still hurts watching ZBroly's shield eat it I *think* they fixed 2H counting as a projectile at least
His assist is his 236L/M/H, Death Slash (that move where he exploded the ground in front of Goku before he started charging the Spirit Bomb). For some reason, Freeza doesn't even have Death Wave in this game, even though it would have made perfect sense as a second Level 1 Super.
@@PushoverMediaCritic I think Death Wave and Death Slash are just different names for the same move, although they definitely should have gone with Death Wave for this game because the attack resembles a wave more than a slash.
@@fissilewhistle No, Death Slash is when he exploded the ground by swinging his hand up, Death Wave is when he cut Namek in half by swinging his hand down. They're different moves.
@@PushoverMediaCritic If you mean the move that Second Form Frieza does, that’s called Death Storm, a different thing altogether. That’s his 2H in this game.
Baseball Yamcha could actually have a kit to be fair, like, imagine his supers, the level one could be him hitting a ball that loops around the world before hitting the target or something, making a delay with the hit, I can see some combo potential, and the level 3 could be him batting you to the moon and then blowing it up.
I think Street Fighter V handled chip the best. Chip damage is respectable and does add up noticeably over time, but you can’t die from chip unless it’s a Critical Art.
I would make only one tiny change to this video. Instead of saying that Zoners are usually meant to keep you away, I would say that they're usually balanced around keeping you at the range or "zone" they want you at, usually through very projectile-heavy specials but occasionally through mines or the like
It's amazing how i suck a lot at this game, but your videos make me wanna play them man, there's just so much quality and humour, happy new year everyone

Dude I love your videos. That's what I call true infotainment. From the presentation, through the information, all wrapped in a comfy blanket of a great soundtrack. Thanks for making these!
I got Fighterz this Christmas, before that point however I had watched every available Fighterz video this guy had. thanks for getting me into this game dude
I’ve had Frieza on my main team since I started playing him. He’s been my main anchor and to me I think this video perfectly covers the flaws with him and also shows exactly what I’ve been asking for this character.
These intros keep getting more and more cinematic every time, keep it up! it gets exciting to think about what new thing will happen in the intro every time I click
2 ways to fix Frieza 1) make regular Frieza good by either making him a zoner or focusing on making him rush harder through buffs to ball, pizzas, tele, eyes, and special buttons 2) just have him start golden and never leave lol
Man I’ve just found this channel and the editing in the videos I’ve seen so far is genuinely elite. It would not surprise me to learn that the dude is making good money by employing his editing skills freelance
I am so frustrated with Frieza I've thought about making a video like this many times and while I agree his whole kit sucks I think his biggest weakness is his support value. He has F-tier assists and his DHC Supers aren't particularly noteworthy outside the Level 3 damage, but then he also wants to be on mid until you can comfortably install? Then they buff a bunch of other assists that weren't as bad as his but still lacking and Frieza B still has 11 frames of blockstun? Are you serious? Also, where the hell did you find the Dramatic Finishes on different stages mod? I swear I saw it like 2 years ago and it was gone when I actually needed it. Unless you do it with cheat engine somehow?
I'm not a fan of Dragon Ball and I had never even heard of this game but I watched this whole video because of the good, engaging presentation. Well done.
I really hope Moldybagel choses to over-analyze other fighting games. I currently have Skullgirls and a wacky game called "Blade Strangers", I would love to see this type of videos around other fighting games, but of course I understand that is his channel and he choses what to do with his content, also that DBFZ is insanely popular and cool and all, but I see him comparing DBFZ to other Fighting Games and I would love to see this type of videos about those games.
...Is that Lord Brevon's theme from Freedom Planet at the beginning? Man, your music choice KEEPS surprising me with how good it is. Also, another great video! Lots of very useful information as usual, really appreciate it.
Fighterz:lets make frieza a zoner! Me: ah yes, a zoner with a melee jump ki blast Although it does blast them away, they shouldve already been away in the first place.
Great video with tons of good points. As a Frieza main, it's a struggle. They either need to rework Frieza to give some sort of mix, and/or give tools to better zoning. Either make Frieza great at what he was designed for, zoning, or rework his kit to fit into the rushdown style game. Below are a couple different ideas that will certainly never come true • Give Frieza a tool like Kefla's 6H. A slow overhead that can be punished with mashing. Make it cancellable from 2M(1) for a basic mixup. Frieza is a stagger/reset pressure character when close. Give the opponent something to actually fear to bait the mash/jump. Alternatively give this only to Golden • Chip. Damage. Give it to the real zoners • Stop 214S from hurting your own assists. Hurting Frieza is flavor and I like it. Hurting your assists is embarrassing • Make 22S tracking better. It's already INSANELY minus and loses to superdash. Frame 4 reversals are very very common across the cast. Alternatively, make this move somehow have DP properties. Give Frieza tools to push the opponent away and allow for a return to neutral • Fix the wonky issues with 5H. There are so many wtf moments with this move its laughably bad in neutral • Give j.2H groundbounce property to be able to combo afterwards if it is the starting move of a combo • Give Golden Frieza the cross up. Please. • Give Frieza projectiles the highest priority in the game. Make this true of all zoning types like Super Baby 2 • Lower "You shall die by my hand" to 2 bars and give it armor. There's literally no reason to use this when Golden Frieza is the best wake up option in the game Funny thing is, even if ALL of these were implemented, Frieza wouldn't even be top 5. There's still a myriad of other issues like his trash assists, low damage, lack of command grab, poor recovery from most specials, still would have perfectly reactable mixups, and would still suffer from his "dead zone". Not to mention the other options from opponents with moves that go through ki blasts, neutralize ki blasts, lariats to move quickly, etc. But hey they'll probably give 2M 90% screen range as well just to fuck with us. Cause, yknow, that solved the problems 🤦♀️
I agree with all of this except for the chip damage. In a game with as many projectiles and long-reaching moves as Fighterz, a stronger chip system would destroy the game.
@@zero123alpha6 I'm more thinking he can chip opponents and let a teammate to finish the job? Maybe make it so that if Frieza is last alive the chip kills? I dunno
I love your videos. You take alot of time on them which make them better to watch. Its so funny and entertaining. Plus its educational. Keep doing what you doing man.
I will say there’s some criticisms about the mahvel comparison. 1. Movement isn’t universal and is a lot worse for most the cast. So not fair when in fighterz you’d be able to dash through the soul fist. Meanwhile haggar literally can’t move fast enough to deal with magnetic repulse pushing him into the corner. 2.Magneto is not a zoner. He has a beam true, but outside of the Haggar matchup where you push him away because that one move makes it a 10-0 matchup unironically, magneto is the fastest character in the game and is played for his rush down capabilities. 3. Neither was Zero. He does zone a lot more to be fair but he’s played for cross ups and self sufficient loop combos. He’s almost always the cornerstone of aggressive team builds like zero may cry. 4. Hidden missiles carried all zoning teams. Morrigan doesn’t really zone you out in say a Chun/Phoenix team because she’s only their to build the win condition of dark Phoenix. And 5. Traditional Zoning only really curb stomps certain characters. In mahvel advanced mobility is king. Teleports and flight instantly demolish it and it’s why zoning needs hidden missile assist. It’s very easy to get past; it’s getting anything off it because you can’t stop the missiles that truly make it hell for 90% of the roster. It’s why mystic ray and jam session are considered top tier assists, they shut down what’s the equivalent to vanilla vegeta assist. It’s also another reason vergil was the best character in the game because his summoning swords and teleport basically cues you in it was a $*%# idea to try that. Nothing personal. Just wanted some clarification for this part because a lot of contexts justifiably missing seeing as this is a dragon ball video first and foremost not a mahvel history class.
I'd even argue that he doesn't even know a lot about the game he's even covering, that being DBFZ. He takes the entire game and all of its mechanics at face value, and that's where most of his claims come from. The whole "Frieza is useless" argument falls apart if you look at the Friezacord and see what people say about him there. There's even a flowchart of his crazy blockstrings in one of the channels. Also, if you go Golden and don't maintain the advantage, that's your fault. Don't use Frieza as anchor. that's another noob mistake.
@@PrimeTF I think that’s the point. Freeza got much better once they shifted away from his intended design. He has good mix to keep up with the rest of the cast, but a character with 7 projectiles probably wasn’t supposed to end up being rushdown.
@@bageltoo this is what we call a “Remy”. Remy is a character in street fighter 3 who plays just like guile and has some sagat mixed in their. This is the recipe for the perfect zoner. But one problem. This is that evo moment 37 game. So you can parry everything he zones with and build resources faster than him. This has lead people to play him as an aggressive poking character instead because he’s designed in such a way that he can’t really do what the devs thought he would do. Anji in guilty gear is like this too. Used to be a zoner. Then they rebalanced him to play better at what everyone else was playing him as, a set play machine.
It's weird how he's a straight zoner instead of a trickster character. Before The Great Namek Dragout Super Saiyan Slugfest, Frieza used moves that paralyzed, confused, and put the heroes(though mostly base Goku, it's kinda just punchies before final form) in difficult situations. The fight lasts as long as it does because he's really into torturing his opponents in fowl ways. Somehow, Roshi was given the tricky movement and crafty stuns, while Frieza doesn't even get an iconic pinball super. Maybe it's a choice based around making one of the most popular characters an archetype everyone can easily play...but that shouldn't make him bad. Lovely video, Sir Bagel, as always. You make the cogs in my brain spin about the fighty games and I appreciate that.
Imagine having Ki Blasts so strong that they are refered to in guides as "death beams" being able to blindside a multitude of characters in the franchise due to their sheer speed and piercing potential /power alone. Only to make them weaker than the Ki blasts of a raging green toddler and a oc character from a godawful story mode. Freeza is in my personal top 5 of my favorite Dragon Ball characters and I refuse to touch him in the game since playing him makes me physically cringe. Universal Emperor? More like universal bottom tier, and for four years I might add.
I play with Freeza because i have a tendency of always playing with baddass villains or edgylords Freeza is a baddass villain but not a Edgylord (this goes to Zamasu) So i play with a team of Freeza Piccolo Beerus/UI Goku When i buy Zamasu i will Switch UI for him Also i don't like that much Cell and Fat Boo is too hard to learn So i will stick with the Universal Joke Freeza
I was legitimately expecting "[Golden Frieza]'s pretty good now, but with one major flaw:" to be followed up by saying that it's still tied to playing Frieza's jank ass

The world never needs more Amanes and Arakunes.
Just having chipp won't help. You get Blue HP Frieza doesn't have much mix so it's not scary.

It’s seems like they keep buffing him every season but he’s like the opposing Kid Buu but n that he is unbuffable lol
He’s definitely buffable, but Arcsys doesn’t know how to do it, and keep just buffing the Golden Form.
@@plushytv5295 How would you buff him?
@@Strider315 probably look back at how he was during season 1
Other then that idk
Looking back at this, I honestly agree that Freeza should get more substantial chip damage
It would not only fit a zoner type character like Freeza, but would also fit thematically
The whole point of Freeza's character is that he'd rather tear apart and poke holes in his opponents slowly rather than end them immediately
He's a sadistic ruler who makes his opponents suffer before giving them the sweet release of death. just look what he does with the Z Fighters in the namek saga (impaling Krillin, blasting beams into Piccolos body, wrecking Vegeta not only physically but emotionally, and destroying Goku to the point he had to surpass his limits with the Kaioken and rely on the spirit bomb)

No if sparking pauses the timer for a set amount of time it doesn't matter when it's paused
It matters if it resets timer though
Yes it wouldn't matter when you used sparking in that scanario it would always last the same amount of time if it's paused.

I still want to know why Death Wave/whatever move the assist is based on counts as a projectile
I never played Frieza really but it still hurts watching ZBroly's shield eat it
I *think* they fixed 2H counting as a projectile at least
Yeah it's wack

I must disagree with the chip damage thing. After watching/dealing with Morrigan on and off for a decade, I never want to see anything like her again.
True but morrigan is also top 3 in her game that is run by zoners and chip. We don't necessarily have to have Frieza be that good
I think Street Fighter V handled chip the best. Chip damage is respectable and does add up noticeably over time, but you can’t die from chip unless it’s a Critical Art.
I would make only one tiny change to this video. Instead of saying that Zoners are usually meant to keep you away, I would say that they're usually balanced around keeping you at the range or "zone" they want you at, usually through very projectile-heavy specials but occasionally through mines or the like
It's amazing how i suck a lot at this game, but your videos make me wanna play them

Although it does blast them away, they shouldve already been away in the first place.
MoldyBagel: Freeza bad lol
Lythero: Oh no you didn’t!
Great video with tons of good points. As a Frieza main, it's a struggle. They either need to rework Frieza to give some sort of mix, and/or give tools to better zoning. Either make Frieza great at what he was designed for, zoning, or rework his kit to fit into the rushdown style game. Below are a couple different ideas that will certainly never come true
• Give Frieza a tool like Kefla's 6H. A slow overhead that can be punished with mashing. Make it cancellable from 2M(1) for a basic mixup. Frieza is a stagger/reset pressure character when close. Give the opponent something to actually fear to bait the mash/jump. Alternatively give this only to Golden
• Chip. Damage. Give it to the real zoners
• Stop 214S from hurting your own assists. Hurting Frieza is flavor and I like it. Hurting your assists is embarrassing
• Make 22S tracking better. It's already INSANELY minus and loses to superdash. Frame 4 reversals are very very common across the cast. Alternatively, make this move somehow have DP properties. Give Frieza tools to push the opponent away and allow for a return to neutral
• Fix the wonky issues with 5H. There are so many wtf moments with this move its laughably bad in neutral
• Give j.2H groundbounce property to be able to combo afterwards if it is the starting move of a combo
• Give Golden Frieza the cross up. Please.
• Give Frieza projectiles the highest priority in the game. Make this true of all zoning types like Super Baby 2
• Lower "You shall die by my hand" to 2 bars and give it armor. There's literally no reason to use this when Golden Frieza is the best wake up option in the game
Funny thing is, even if ALL of these were implemented, Frieza wouldn't even be top 5.
I'm absolutely baffled as to why 5LLL isn't a command grab. That's what kills me most.
Bring back the tracking of frieza’s assist
I dont even play DBFZ, but your videos make me interested in it as a fighting game fan. THANK YOU i look forward to more
I agree with all of this except for the chip damage. In a game with as many projectiles and long-reaching moves as Fighterz, a stronger chip system would destroy the game.
If chip kills existed with most characters still having the same amount of chip damage, I doubt it would be too impactful
Hi
@@MoldyBagel i feel like at worst, they could make chip frieza's thing. Make him like a zoner that chips, then punishes attempted tag outs?
