  • Despite the Gross Value Added of the cyber security sector increasing by over 60 per cent to almost AU$4 billion and the number of local cyber security companies growing by 8.25 per cent year-on-year (now over 315 companies), the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2023 found the performance and competitiveness of Australia’s cyber security industry declined from 2022 to 2023.
This finding highlights the urgency behind improving Australia’s cyber security competitiveness through a diversified strategy and ongoing investment.
Australia’s Cyber Security Sector Competitiveness Plan, launched on 14 May, has been developed with three key factors in mind: the release of the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy; a cyber security sector that can no longer be classified as emerging, but more so maturing; and the maturity of the data now available.
It draws on extensive industry consultation and research to provide a fresh picture of the global outlook, challenges, opportunities and priority actions needed to grow a vibrant and globally competitive cyber security sector that enhances Australia’s future economic growth.
