    This looks to be like the most amazing place to work! To be able to learn, grow and contribute all while maintaining a youthful and enjoyable environment - wow!! That would be the ultimate work place for me. What a wonderful opportunity for everyone working here - I've had enjoyable jobs but for my entire working experience, I've worked to sustain myself and family members; it must be fascinating to be fortunate enough to have a job that aligns with your "career" goals and dreams and especially to be surrounded by people who support and believe in you. Best wishes to you all, always, keep enjoying! 😁

    I used to work in a room like that back in the 1980's (the old mainframe days). I was part of the skeleton crew that worked overnight to keep things running. There were only 5 of us in the entire building and I seldom saw the others after we clocked in. Thank god I had a Sony Walkman to keep me company thru the wee hours of the morning. When the sun came up, my work day was done.

      That cooling system would seriously concern me. Their is a serious risk of condensate moisture particles dropping into the racks. In addition, the evaporator coils will be dehumidifying the air to the dew point of the cooling air, the drainage systems below coils are constantly blocking and flooding into anything below them. This is the reason that they are historically floor mounted.
      On the scale that the system has been installed, I would consider it an accident waiting to happen.
      PS, I have designed systems for theaters and film studios for more than 45 years.

    Also an important point is most companies, operate security so no individual employee can bring down the center, it usually takes multiple employees to collude together against their employer that have the access to the different parts needed to do so. If the ambient temperatur are lower than in the center no compressors are needed. It´s a common strategi to rise the temperatur of the cooling system to reduce the compressor energy. The ambient temperatur can cool the water system. But the best thing to do is to reuse the heat energy when possible ie in district heating. That is more and more common in cold areas with district heat system.

      I do a lot of work in data centers, and I have been told by a few them that their highest cost is the electricity bill for the air conditioners, if there is no aircon, you use less power = more efficient. I can't remember any specific details but one of them was saying that if they replaced all of their equipment with components that could survive in higher temperatures and remove the air conditioning all together, that they would save an absolutely monumental amount of money. it would be quieter too - those fans sure are noisy. They said the biggest hurdle in doing that is the temperatures would easily climb to 50degrees Celsius+ and it would be very difficult to have people do work in there from an OHS standpoint.

    • @brandoloudly9457
      @brandoloudly9457 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i was confused about one thing this guy said. did he mean they have air conditioners up against their racks pushing the warm air into an isle where it rises to their secondary cooling, which would be the copper pipes with water that then runs outside through a cooling tower? are they using a secondary method of cooling to reduce the power consumption of their air conditioners?

      A suit and tie has its place, and you tend to only find them where they serve a function.
      Casual work environments are already the norm where they can be implemented without detriment to the business operations.

      Absolutely! Maybe while we are at it, we should rethink the typical 40 hour work week.

    the data center I work in is wicked cold. after a few hours of work in there I can barely feel my fingers. working in a warmer data center must be pretty nice

    Very cool video . Im always amazed how most people don't realize the hardware back end required to make the internet and all our "cloud" applications work.

    This looks like an awesome job. Today's metric risk would be how fast a data center could be rebuilt and operational from scratch. How many days months years does it take a built a data center?

    This video genuinely seems very interesting, it really shows how much there has to be done that is happening behind the curtains, it's really fascinating to me at least, and I was surprised about the how high the security level they have, and all the infrastructure is just mind-blowing, so much work into just having "some" servers.
    Great video!
