    It was a year ago that I watched that video, doing what I could to learn about how to get into the cybersecurity industry. I'd watch these videos while driving to a job I didn't want to do. Fast forward one year later: I'm not only still watching your amazing videos, David, but I'm also now working full-time as a security consultant. Unbelievable world we live in.

      @@Desertdolphin43 the way I did it isn't relevant because you can't replicate the career of another person. Learn how to impress other people. After that, just let the world know you want to become a SOC Analyst.

    I love that Neil dropped a few unpopular opinions in there. People wanna call themself "hackers" but completely lack the determination and problem solving capabilities to educate themselvs. If you guys think googling stuff is tedious, this job ain't for you ;)

    • @therealp7667
      @therealp7667 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and I think its worth noting that this is a learned skill. I know for me I hated googling things in the beginning because it felt like I wasn’t doing things “authentically” or “organically” or something. Then I learned that It is an essential tool in a programmer’s and hacker’s toolbox. Now I am totally at home in the search bar. Getting past the annoyance of googling is just part of the process.

    • @napalm1101
      @napalm1101 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because most people get their idea of "hacking" from crappy movies and terrible television shows (looking right at you, CSI and similar shows). This leads them to believe that hackers are magical ubergods who are somehow plugged directly into the matrix and know literally everything with perfect recall who can execute that at the drop of a hat.
      Crazy.
      The most accurate depiction of hacking ever shown in popular culture is the movie War Games. You know why? It shows a young man sitting around in his underwear in the dark researching tedious, arcane information while his life passes him by just so he can figure out a weird puzzle.

    Hearing about test anxiety is like a blessing. I swear no one else feels the same way I me when taking tests it's like as soon as I look at a test I blank on everything. Doesn't matter if I studied it for 2-4 weeks or knew all the questions before hand just get so blanked out.

    • @NegativeAccelerate
      @NegativeAccelerate 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's so shite. I think one way of overcoming that is emulating exam conditions as best as you can and practicing under those conditions. I use this technique to overcome not only exam stress, but public speaking anxiety too. I practice until I no longer get stressed under those practice conditions.

    I’m in my last year bachelors Cyber Security and really looking forward to finally start working in the field. Even though I know most of these things I still find Neal very refreshing. I never thought bug bounty hunting would be possible for someone with not that much real world experience/advanced web app hacking. But what he said was truly eye opening. Pentesting unpaid still gives you hands on experience and new insights in how I’m doing things and might even land you a bounty after trying. Amazing tip!

Have applied to over 115 jobs in the past 2 months. Can't get a job anywhere. Everyone wants you to have a PHD for an entry level IT job. It's depressing and discouraging out here! I just finished my university degree in computer systems and advanced networks, I've so far had two technical interviews, both of them have been 70% competency, the other 30% consist of questions listed below
    1. what does your home network look like
    2. explain to me what happens when you plug that ethernet cable into your computer/laptop
    3.explain public key infrastructure
    4. HTTPS is encrypted, how can you monitor something that is encrypted
    5. what is cross-site scripting and how can it be mitigated
    6. what is phishing and how can it be mitigated
    just a little bit of info for those interested.

    I don't know if it's just my thought, and i will be happy if it is, but in this kind of video we only talk about IT cybersecurity. Would be interesting to talk more and in depth also about the OT one. Industrial cyber security and operational technologies have a great market demand but very few persons are interested in. For instance, after my MSc in computer science i have found a job as OT/product cybersecurity engineer in big company of ship building for cruise, offshore and military. As you can understand a pretty fun job, we are actually struggling to find someone to join our team. All this just to say that would be interesting to go in depth on OT infrastructure and cybersecurity.

      you are going to have a big problem getting into cyber security, its predominantly white field and white managers run the scene right now they want the minimal black and brown people to pass EEOC standards so if you are of latino or black descent you are SOL. I would look at other fields, there wont be equality until four decades from now.

    Hello, I am Mexican and I became a hacker taking different cybersecurity courses, first one.
    Network Basics... In Cisco Netacad...
    Others I took... books on pantesting and created my own cyber security lab... in a virtual box... after that I needed to learn English...
    And as a final step:
    learn code, specifically python and C.. and build different projects.....
    Also, you need to learn social engineering... and OSINT...
    So thanks david for your videos...cheers from mexico city...you have a pupil here...

    Thank you, David. I have been into IT for a year now pursuing a degree in Cyber Security(sophomore yr) and loving the challenges and thrills it brings, and about to sit for an HCIA R&S exam. I would like to inquire on what path I can follow after I attain it?

    Well the INE content is no longer free...you can sign up with a student pass but you still have to get a subscription to get access to the courses. Are there free sources out there that you recommend us to start from?

    To be honest it is so difficult to truly provide worth to 1000 people and I love that goal that Neil suggests to us but to get reciprocal relationship quality from 1000 other people. That led me to trying to connect to more and more people searching for the quality that fits my goals and personality.

    David its been a year since I watched that video... it inspired me to get into cybersecurity. I have been knocking out course from a local IT school and it has taught me a ton. I mean I know port numbers, protocols, topologies and more. Thank you so much! I'm headed towards the OSCP but DOD needs or recognizes things like CEH from ECCOUNCIL just learning more. This is such a fun learning. Thank you thank you.
