- The Groove Creator section of the E463 (And the PSR-EW410, with similar iterations on some other models) is a great way to experience and analyse effective ways to construct a song. It's not a simple and easy as you might think, so the Groove Creator is a good EDM learning tool.

Hi nice video about a great feature of the PSR E463.
IMO the Groove Creator goes way beyond the remixing of the 35 provided Grooves or Patterns. It can be really useful for composing songs or even gigging.
Think about that: if you mute everything in the Groove excepted for the bass line, you’ve got 35x5 = 175 bass lines at your disposal (!) on which you can layer other instruments (synths or acoustic) that you will play with your right hand.
Same thing with the drums: if you mute all tracks excepted for the drums, you’ve got 175 drum patterns at your disposal. The drums are even more flexible than the bass because they are not key sensitive, so it makes these drum patterns extremely flexible for composing or improvisation.
As you are showing in the video, it s a great idea to experiment with the arpeggios on top of the Grooves but I think this is more suitable for composing than for improvising because to make this process really effective, as you’ve noticed yourself, you have to know which chord the groove is currently playing because obviously the chords played by the arpeggio should follow the chords played by the groove.
Speaking of chords, let’s say that you start the Groove Creator on a C note, nothing prevents you from changing the tonality (switching tomF or G for instance) while you are playing. To achieve this, you must either mute the melodic tracks of the groove (because the melody already follows its own chord progression, so if you change the basic tonality of the tune, things might get too complex, harmonically speaking), or you must listen to the groove you want to use until you have a fairly good idea of its harmonic content. That way, the harmonic progression you will play will interact smoothly with the internal harmonic progression of the groove.
As for the live knobs, as you said it is possible to apply its effects either to the solo played by the right hand, or to the accompaniment (in this case, the groove creator). Of course you can use not only the resonant filter, the reverb and the chorus, but also the 10 DSP, which again gives the player a lot of flexibility.
And of course, even within the same composition, nothing prevents you from using different Grooves, this can even lead to some dramatic effects.
Apart from the Part buttons and the Track buttons, there is yet another category of button which might come very handy: the Registration buttons. They can memorise which groove you want to use, which part of the groove you choose, even which tracks are muted or not. You can also program your right hand solo voice or arpeggio. That way, you can instantly switch between very different settings (even different tempos) for very dramatic effects.

Yep I agree with all your comments, especially about the basslines (and all other parts) being a great 'database' in a sense. There is plenty of inspiration to be drawn from the Groove Creator and i really wanted to emphasise in the video that it's not something that Yamaha just tacked on the end to make it more impressive to buyers - although it does that job pretty well too I'm sure! Hello, i have a question. Can i also use the beats that i created by myself in the DAW to perform them like a DJ with this groove creator function ?
Hi there, do you, Gearfacts or anyone else know if the grooves can be edited in terms of their actual rhythm i.e. manually programming it so that the actual rhythmic pattern of kicks and snares can be customised, like you qould do on a drum machine of sequencer?
@@milanb4504 Nope. The only keyboards which allow rhythm creation in the same price range as the PSR E463 are the Casio CT-X3000 and CT-X5000.

I think they are just going to add their 35-effects chip (which will be nice!) and the voice articulation button (not so useful imho)
Thanks for the effort on the video. I just brought a PSR 410 (the 77 key version of this keyboard) because I thought I would want that Groove Creator feature. Have only had it a few days... but boy... what a ton of fun this feature is. I cannot remember the last time I have had so much fun at a piano !!! Thanks for the education !!! I will be looking for more if you have the time. Some such as playing some riffs (you showing the cords) that we can follow along with. Thanks again

Sadly no! There's a feature that enables mixing of different bass and accompaniment with different rhyhms from the presets, but apart from that it's linear midi recording all the way. Glad you liked the videos! Gearfacts

It won't work quite like a DJ rig, but essentially yes, i think you'll get what you're after.

No, it can't do that sadly. You could sequence a song with custom percussion, from start to finish, but it sounds like you're talking about creating a style that can be looped and transposed as the song progresses. You can only do that with the presets.
Does the Casio CT-X700/800 have this function? Can you actually make some electronic music or the Yamaha is better for it?
The Yamaha is ten times better for creating your own music, especially if it's in the EDM/groove style.

Hi, just got a PSR E 463. Is it possible to play the keyboard while using the groovee creator? I see you never touch the keys, but only using the controls on the panel. Thanks

As of this comment, I still have my PSRE463. I know about the PSRE473. I know the both models have 35 grooves. No more and no less. So does this mean that you cannot actually create custom grooves from the ground up or upload custom grooves that have been downloaded into your keyboard?
You can upload ten STY (user style) files, but you can't create a "Groove Creator" groove from the ground up, you can only tweak the material they've provided. As you are probably already thinking - The title "Groove Creator" is a bit misleading!

Hi! I wanted to ask how do I play the left hand keys while using groove creator? When I press the left keys the music pitch changes.
Hmm this is a good question, I've never thought about it. All I can guess is that you press the Voice button and hopefully the GrooveCreator will keep playing while in Voice mode, allowing you to play the keyboard as normal. But I have to admit I've never tried this!

Hello... Nice Video.... Two questions, please? Does the Groove Creator use sounds inside the E463, or are they wave/sampled files? If they are from the PSR-E463, can I recall them from Midi and use them in my own Midifiles? Also Can I recall the Grove Creators "Phrases" from Midi??? Thank you so much....
Hi Alex, the first answer is yes, the sounds do indeed come from the keyboard itself, they're not samples. As to whether you can extract the midi data for other synths, I'm only 80% sure that it's possible. I have a feeling that the Groove Creator function blocks midi signals out. I can't check right now as I don't have a 463 in the studio. If you look for Vicky (vbdx66) below in the comments, she really knows the technicalities. She's the one to ask :)

L'unica grande pecca del groove mode, è che non suonano gli accordi in minore, riconosce solo gli accordi in tonalità maggiore, e quindi non puoi fare veri giri armonici o canzoni vere
