Text:
I know the sopranos usually get all of the glory but Margot Oitzinger has a most haunting voice in this aria..
The man sitting behind looks like he is doing everything to hold back bursting from tears. How lovely.
I would dare to say this is the definitive iteration of this area. The vocalist is awesome and had a wonderful grasp of the musicality and executes it the same.
Mein Gott in himmel-this is so beautiful. As one reviewer said "Bach was not of this world". Thanks to all at Bachstiftung and a happy Christmas to all there. Music for the glory of God and refreshment of the soul -JSB
This refreshes the soul and spirit.
Cry out in tears for this "superbe" beauty...Bach is definitely another planet, is beyond, is ten steps over!!!
+skizochem as they say, in heaven the angels listen to Mozart but God listens to Bach.
+stevie jongh Nice quote indeed! :-))
I'm very fond of the Bachstiftung's recordings: the various performers always are excellent musicians and seem to involve their entire art and soul in their interpretation. It's amazing to see such a number of soloists with a high professional level!
Beautiful, Margot!
Aria favolosa di un compositore straordinario
Such a lovely alto, sounds young and fresh.
Smart use from her middle and chest voice.
Beautiful!
Grazie Mandelssohn!
Miraculously beautiful.
All of these wonderful individual movements just make want to hear the rest. I had to listen to this one a few times, too sweet to get it all in one pass.
Zauberhaft!
Bravi meravigliosi
Beautifull :) I love this cantata
Beautiful !
beautiful. another superb Bach voice.
Oll standing! For me;à Standing ovation
Magnifique...
Sublime!!!!
I hear no such thing and find great beauty in this interpretation. In fact, I've heard nothing but excellence throughout this whole series. My ears are very much tuned to this type of performance of my beloved Bach.
When you fly away from bad thoughts and fly to heaven!
very nice- wld like to hear wholoe kantate by this ensemble- koopman has right very fast pace- but then chorus comes in and mushes stuff up!!!
A couple of arias would have immortalized Bach but no, this guy was too ambitious!
How would you characterise "this type of performance" out of interest?
''How would you characterise "this type of performance" out of interest?''
I would characterize this type of performance as 'period', using older instruments or copies and avoiding excessive vibrato at all costs.
3.- Aria:
Wohl euch, ihr auserwählten Seelen,
Die Gott zur Wohnung ausersehn.
Wer kann ein größer Heil erwählen?
Wer kann des Segens Menge zählen?
Und dieses ist vom Herrn geschehn.

Dichosas vosotras, almas escogidas,

BWV 34, is a church cantata composed by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Aria 3 alto, Sung by Margot Oitzinger.
natürlich doch!
I guess the no nonesense approach is all part of the movement away from an earlier style of performance. I for one, prefer not to hear vibrato from either instrumentalist nor singer. This performance is clean and to the point. I can hear everything and am not distracted by unwanted mannerisms of any kind. I appreciate that not everyone sees it this way but I was never so glad as when the so called 'period' movement got under way.
p O
I have to say I found the singing rather one-dimensional. A bit too business-like and no nonsense.
But that's very Baroque - that perfect smoothness that makes the voice basically another instrument. It's not lacking in emotion, either - it just happens to be a very peaceful sort of aria.
You're right - Gardiner does this much better.
