Great content as usual, Matt. I saw the results of a robot test recently, which showed a driver actually hits shorter than a 3-wood for club speeds below 90 mph, even with a perfect strike. first thing i do on the tee is find flat ground to stand on and i put my club down and make sure the area around where i will tee the ball is also somewhat flat. then i step back and find my target and find my line up spot in front of the ball. i usually tee up 1m from the markers and it gives me lots of imperfections to choose from.
Arccos was telling me that penalties off the tee is my problem also! lol I started using 5 wood (especially when I'm not warmed up) to try to keep things straighter. Only annoyance is one of the guys I golf with makes comments about my club selection which I find annoying and unnecessary.
Do you ever change where in the tee box you start depending on you shot shape? In the example you used, would you tee it up on the right side of the box to give yourself a little more room for the fade?

Thanks Matt short but sweet and timely for me. Oh right I know the video from jon perkins He doesn't reference the starting distance you're hitting the ball though so it is misleading because it's using the averages of a 16 handicap driving distance vs the averages of a 9 handicap. Strange Dangerous using averages without standard deviations or mentioning the absolute numbers but 'more distance=lower scores' is the latest sexy marketing of current times.
I've always wondered though, the average tee shot likely includes artifacts of forced layups due to doglegs, etc. Every good golfer I've played with under age 50, tends to hit it further than 240-260. I'd love to play a few rounds and place my ball in the fairway 240 every time from the tee and see what happens.
Unless there is a wide, wide open tee shot I use my 4 iron to tee off. Get about 210, and a fairway roll. Matty Boom Boom taught me this, and it changed my game. Used to struggle to break 100, now a few shots above or below 90 every round.
Yea I do the same. I get a lot of crap for it at the beginning of the round, but when it is landing 20 yards shorter than the tee shots in thr fairway or 50 yards beyond those in the rough, they stop laughing. Then I laugh when I'm 10-15 strokes below them at the end of the round.
Yeah the more I think about it the tee shot is key. You are right a decent distance in the fairway or close to it. I know people who have told me don't spend time hitting drivers. I think short game and putting are also important but you need to get off the tee.

where did you get that chart? I don't understand why the longer the hole the longer you need to hit it to keep up with your handicap. As a back of the envelope calculation using the scratch yardage rating (normalized by 18) rating = length/220 + 2.25 could be used to represent average score of scratch vs length. 440 yard hole would average 4.25 where a 330 would average 3.75. (of course this doesn't take into account difficulty etc but just a rough number for the effect of length). What is it about the longer of the hole that it would be assumed that the scratch golfer would gain some super powers that they don't possess on the shorter holes? Or is the super power in the brain and we are assuming here that the shorter holes on averaged are designed to be more narrow on average so that the typical scratch golfer would be more expected to lay back on their tee shot (ie. the effective length of the holes are longer)?
On 17 holes, I can fairly successfully work out strategy from the tee. On 1 hole, 112 yds from red tees, water 30-85 yds, so all carry, I cannot hit a 19 degree hybrid to the green. Serious question, do you use certain words incorrectly on purpose or is it a second language thing? “Pick a club that you are confidential will go in play…” Also, I enjoy your videos. Thanks for the good advice.
Sir English is but my 4th language
@@GolfSidekick that’s amazing! I’ve been struggling to learn a second language for years and can only say basic things like “where’s the bathroom?” and “I’m hungry!”
But the DATA!

Hi, mentioned a few times earlier too. I like your videos but friend you need to change “confidential” to “confident”. Just lookup what these words mean. Trying to help you here 🙏
I tried to look up but i didn’t see anything up there. Where must i look?
@@GolfSidekick
Confidential means "secret or private"
Confident (which you intend to use) means "having or showing assurance and self-reliance"
It’s the most important shot
Baus this is dangerously close to strokes gained chat
Attaboy...always chasing that well manicured grass...always
Would like to play when I get there if you're interested?
Does no one else play golf in this Country?
The tees brutalized me today, playas. Cost me 8 strokes 😑
Confidential ≠ Confident
Do you want a club to get in play on every hole?
Get a Cobra One length hybrid.
It's a game changer.
what length?
@@ohwowthatsgoodJuan length
@@ohwowthatsgood 7 iron length
Have you done a video on using Google Earth to plan a round? I attempted it and got confusiated.
Couldn't agree more! I have a 3 and 4 one length hybrid Cobras. Finally left driver in the bag last week and was teeing it up with the 3 and hitting it farther than the driver and in play! It is very satisfying golf for my abilities.
At this point, any TH-cam channel that hasn’t reached out to play a round is obviously lacking confidentiality. They’re plain scared.
They’re all run by agencies and managers. Intensely sophomoric and boring. The only interesting one is bdc
@@GolfSidekick Absolutely. And btw, my gf asked me Sunday evening if I was gonna work on my new flop shot I’d told her about. I said sorry, Matt and I discussed it, and we’re just gonna work harder toward not getting short sided, lol.
@@BrandonSpears-s3u Playa do me a favor, go do 1 hour short greenside bunker splash practice. Get that ball high and soft on 10-15 yard shots.
You'll discover the flop shot from that - it's the same shot. But bunker is low hanging valuable fruit that teaches you the flopper by association
I’m confidential that I can hit a slice. Think you meant confident.
confidence, not confidential.
Be confident . Not confidential .
