Her older brothers probably weren't intentionally rude to her but still the idea of their feedback stifling her spontaneous and bubbly Ne storytelling crushes me. Even as an INFP being told to just get to the point when I'm exploring ideas out loud feels stifling. Must be super hard as an Ne dom! Sad she seems still affected by that.

She seems like Te dom to me. Like her responsibility is to do stuff, that needs to be done - Te, not to gather ideas - Ne. And her defense mechanism is to be rude, uncaring - which is what TJs do. FJs are doing the opposite, where they are being nice as a defense mechanism. NPs are being confusing and SPs are being physically offensive

I’m an ENFP with strong Te functionality. I blame that on having an older ENTP brother lol. I think having such a logical influence during my childhood who did not hold back whatsoever had SUCH a huge impact on how I display my ENFP-ness, so much so to the point where I actually struggle to relate to most other ENFPs that I meet.
I think ENFPs are a naturally self conscious/aware type, so whatever influences were around during our upbringing make a gigantic effect on our portrayal of our personality.
This was an amazing personality breakdown, my favourite thing about your videos is your way of analyzing the cognitive functions. It’s really opened my eyes to how much room for variation there actually is within every type! Love what you do Eric, please keep it up!!!! ❤️

It all makes sense now why my Te is so developed. I'm an ENFP with an ENTP older brother and I guess because of his Ti it forced me to develop my logical/practical side. My Te shows itself at work being able to solve problems or finding efficiencies in processes. In my personal life, I'm the person people turn to, to get things done. My Te seems to be able to harness my Ne to produce results.

I tested (with paper and online tests) an intj for 20 years, only to have a testing session recently and discover that they think I'm an enfp!
Apparently, enfps testing as intjs is a thing. It happens for the very reasons you mentioned. In my case a very logical, task oriented upbringing (maybe with entjs?).
So I elevated that te and squelched the fi. My ne was harder to push down, but I just assumed the inspiration I got from it was more like ni visions of the future.
I have recently watched videos comparing enfps and intj. I see the similarities and differences.
I see how enfps have thoughts bottleneck causing them to pause as they try to speak, while intjs sometimes pause during a quick subject change so they can regroup.
I've always felt I had so many thoughts fighting to get out, but I assumed that was ni narrowing it down. Lol
Interesting learning about how nurture takes place and changes us!

I have similar experience. My dad is ENTJ and older brother is ESTP so I had to develop my Te faster and more (?). I usually have a lot of conversations with my dad. With my brother I had a lot of mental gymnastics but we enjoying spending time actively. My mom is ISFP and she often encourage my various hobbies and fashion styles. In high school I appeard like ISTJ at first glance. I think it was a copying mechanism because my class mates were very abusive (?), omg I don't know how to describe it in english. I was still enfp but I was showing this side for few closer class mates. Of course my ENFP-ness was in essays and ideas.
At the end of the day. MBTI is just a theory. People are very multi-layered and complex beings. Everyone is similar yet very different. Traumas, ways of upbringing, culture, tradition, place of living are taking huge role in building a personality.

Idk if I should thank them or feel bad about it cuz there are sometimes I just feel people don’t care what I want to communicate but at the same time they get impressed about how I connect many things to explain one. 10:39 if I need to, I can definitely be assertive. If there's a situation where I'm itching for a logical explanation or I'm trying to improve on something, I will push and pry people for direct, straightforward answers and ask them to clarify. I've started doing this more recently in school because I understand that future information will be built off what I learn now, and it's crucial that I don't have doubts about how something works. And since I have ADD, it's extremely important that I know the "logical rules" of a given subject so that if I miss information, I can infer what the answer might be because I made an effort to get the most thorough explanations earlier on.

It seems like he has Iconic lines you would expect from 1 of the 16 at the very beginning telling you exactly what they are right away. Jennifer's background of her family telling her to "get to the point" and "finish" and that I need to "stop talking about yourself," and being self-conscious about that actually made my eyes water lol. I resonated with it a lot. I'm an INFP and I've noticed that I'm one of those rare INFP's who are great at detaching myself and being objective and logical about things and is ok with criticism and prioritising efficiency (though I'm awful with time management and productivity). I guess using my Te and occasionally suppressing my Fi to find the most logical solution is just more efficient at certain times. I've realised it's due to my household basically only having Ti, Fe, Ni and Se users apart from me and not getting my Ne-ness or my Fi-ness for that matter. My Te actually made me develop some sort of Fe in order to communicate with my family more efficiently without the miscommunications of being "selfish" or what not. Because of my axillary Ne and Fi-Si combo, my dad actually called me "chaotically grounded/stable" which I think describes me a lot. So perhaps that Te side has also been brought into fruition because I'm also an healthy, assertive and confident INFP? I guess it could be a culmination of those factors and I'll stop rambling lol. Just needed to pen my thoughts 😅😂.

0:54 as an ENFP with ADD, I can relate to that statement a lot. However, I don't think I felt quite as strong of a drive to be seen individualistically. I think Jennifer may have some enneagram 4 in her haha. In my case, ADD gave me a bit of rejection sensitivity (kids with ADHD tend to experience 3x the amount of rejection as neurotypical kids) and made me strive towards pleasing people and "fitting in". However, people with ADHD (the fact that I'm an Ne dom doesn't exactly help this) stick out like a sore thumb. I like being my own individual person, but I also like the social security that comes with being seen as part of a "group". Getting attention for being different just isn't a desire I need to strive for, and would rather be recognized in that way by close friends instead of making up "wooden legs" to seem different in front of complete strangers 😂
Due to it being received negatively a lot, I tend to suppress my Ne around people I'm not close with. I would rather be seen as boring and normal than be cut off in the middle of a rant and know everyone thought what you said was weird as heck but there's just that awkward silence and no one saying anything 😂. So I tend to compensate with Te in order to be taken seriously, and let the crazy Ne loose around good friends who I know won't judge me for it.

I always care deeply about being able to express myself but not only that, about other people feeling comfortable being able to express themselves. Nothing pains me more than seeing someone stifling their true self, and I always try to accept people for who they are as I know what its like to not feel accepted.

Before watching this video, I've watched interviews of Jennifer Lawrence. She's one of those people I look at and go, "Had I not grown up in a very restrictive, abusive environment that continued into adulthood relationships, that's what I would have been like as an adult" or "that's what I was like as a kid, and it got trained out of me." So, when I happened upon personality tests, I was all over the place. Mostly INTP, but sometimes ISTP, INTJ, or. more lately, INFJ. The "I" is nearly 100%. I would like to see studies done on how childhood environments do affect personality formation, if at all.

You are still who you are. That can't be trained out of you. Work on being a safer person for yourself to be around so you can be happy! You likely have that issue where the negative voice of one of your parents is trolling in your mind nonstop. Learn to tell it to F*** off. The book Brain talk is really excellent IMO for recognizing the impact of past trauma and moving on.

Like most Fi types, ENFPs are very good at mastering the thing they care about most, and it results in ENFPs who vary so much across the board.
Based on a lot of what she says in interviews, she is a big people pleaser. She cares a lot about making others laugh/happy, and being liked, and I think that motivator along with her acting ability gives her the impression of having high Fe.
She is such a people person that she has learned how to interact very well with others, but with her I believe it comes more from a self-motivated (Fi) place, rather than a natural inclination towards harmony and putting others’ feelings before ones own (Fe).
Her personality is not an easy one to pin down!

Does your own INTP Si third function step in to temper your second function Ne? I thought such "tempering" came from the critical parent sixth function. Just wondering. BTW, that pulsating third function animation is awesome and a helpful way of demonstrating function flow.

Connecting the dots -pattern spotting for fun, effall Si - clumsy af!
Tell me as it is. Don't shroud it. I can take it. Like an observer outside of the actor.
Self proclaimed asshole to protect myself. Not necessarily being an ass, but being fair to self
My brother tells me the same & that sets the self filters, with a reality check filter inbuilt growing up with him

    Typical ADHD personality then.
Absolutely summed up me in everyway.
People with ADHD get told they are bad. I was put in the “special learning “ group when I was about 7. I didnt care I was having a great time being myself - being silly and having fun. Then one day I realised where I was and how I was being restricted and judged. I suddenly was positively angry and became determined to show them I wasnt stupid and prove my value.... and I haven’t stopped since. I still have a silly side to me that only few people see - at work I am purely results driven... and I work toooo much!

8:18 yeah I notice this when I have hypothetical conversations with my ENTJ friend. Since I'm an ENFP, I'll make a stupid claim (for example: cheeseburgers and salads are just the same thing with different quantities of ingredients) that I don't actually have that much attachment to, but my ENTJ friend will consider the actual implications of and she gets so dumbfounded and shocked that she doesn't even know where to start dissecting the brain barf I just dumped on her 😂

So I never get when people say stuff like that 😆 she’s wildly creative, writing her own music, singing, painting (her dad claims she paints better than she sings) and she dances and she’s very involved in the behind the scenes of her art. She doesn’t just do what they tell her to do. She’s also very private but when she releases her own docs it’s always filled with feeling and super expressive and sentimental. And she has great work ethic bc she’s passionate about what she does, which is popular with NFPs when it’s something we love . Plus, both of her parents are ExxJs so the influence is there (I come from a family of all ExxJ parents and two older brothers lol) Regardless, I highly doubt she’s ISFJ as they claim.

i also used to collect cockroaches and scare my classmates lol. even at times when i thought i was helping, i was doing something wrong (like making confetti out of paper because i saw a girl crying in our apartment’s playground but later got reported for littering and having the entire apartment complex despising me lol).
girls didnt want to play with me because i was weird. boys didnt like me because i wasnt girly…
i hate my dom Ne and inferior Si because of how ungrounded and incompetent it makes me. i have to shut my ideas down because i know theyre not insignificant or helpful to me right now. with my ADHD it can become realy draining. i shut my expectations and excitement down because i feel like it only makes things harder for me. its all inflicted self hate. thanks for making this video.
