Maya deserves her own 'O Glorious Sanding' tee shirt from Mads over on Sail Life! Having a fully removable lid on the refridgerator would be very usefull for cleaning and servicing. Maya is looking and sounding much better lately. :)

First Aladino's Magic Carpet I rescue project enabled Maya to come into her own as a naturally talented video production artist. Maya then applied her formidable resources to enable Aladino to discover that he is a "natural" video presenter who simultaneously shares technical information and the joy that he experiences from challenging boat work well done. At a time when marriage is under attack, this is an especially good example of how a married couple who struggle together can do so much for themselves and others.

You know when a boat builder is building his own boat. The tabbing is absolutely perfect. The rest of us have to live with stuff some unqualified person lashed up on a Friday afternoon when close to finishing time.

I love how you two work so well together. I know sanding is a boring job but if it's not done properly the finished project will not look good. Maya, don't feel you are just doing mundane jobs because they are not. You are a big help to Aladino as it allows him to carry on with the other more technical jobs, like the fridge. I love the way you are sizing the fridge to suit a wine bottle. MOST IMPORTANT. Getting back to the woodwork. I cannot understand why people stain it or use a coloured varnish as to me the natural timber grain is so nice so why cover it up. Now Aladino, I am exactly like you when thinking about how to tackle a job. I can't go to sleep until I get it resolved in my head as to the way forward. Enough from me, Cheers Ian

I think Aladino was having a little too much fun testing the fridge liner to destruction. You made the right decision to delay refinishing the overhead. That's a job that can wait until after The Splash. The way this project is coming out, the folks over at the Cape George factory are going to be envious at how beautiful one of their boats can actually be.

The worlds first bullet proof fridge is a fact! Overbuilt is an understatement for that unit. One thing it is, compressor or no, it is already very cool! I also love the look of the natural teak, its so much less obtrusive, more reserved in a way. This boat is set to become a major tourist attraction! That's probably not what you were aiming for but I'm convinced it will become a true sailing home on the oceans.

I waited a while to watch this one, but it was great!
The outside shots and glimpses of spring happening at the yard while the work continues as ever really added a lot of beauty to the video. Aladino’s stress testing and fridge fitting had me cracking up, and the music selection was great. Not going to lie, as summer goes on I’m not as excited for the next boatyard episode as I may have been previously (Yard work, as indicated in past episodes and this one, is, in fact, very monotonous), but the idea that soon (and I mean soon with the progress being done) we may have Scandinavian Summer-style content for years is super exciting. I’m so glad to be able to see the journey y’all are on.
Keep it up, and I’ll be back tomorrow for the next one.

Maybe a usefull tip i have learned from my dad many years ago for removing varnish, my dad made scrapers from big old circular saw blades the blades were about 3 to 4mm thick and were made of hss steel. Pieces of these blades were cut to the desired shape and the edges were sharpened on the bench grinder. These steel pieces made quick work of removing layers of varnish. And when they became a bit blunt a quick resharpening and we were good to go again.

Hello Maya and Aladino!!! By the time you get this message, most of the fridge engineering is probably finished but I still have a few questions. I've never worked on, or installed refrigeration on a boat so this is a learning experience for me and might i add that your designing of the cooler cabinet is bordering on genius. Nothing is taken for granted and you go so far as to check how much impact the coller floor can take. Impressive. 1) Are you installing a condensate drain somewhere in the cooler? 2) If so, where will the drain empty to and are you going to put a trap in the drain? 3) where is the condenser unit going to be installed and are you going to spray an epoxy or some kind of salt water resistant coating on the condenser coil fins? It seems as though you're installing refrigeration that is designed for boats so maybe that is taken in consideration 4) You mentioned that the TXV ( expansion valve) will be mounted by the cold plate, inside the cooler. My advice is to use the thickest rubbatex insulation on the suction line that you can possibly use since it's going to sweat more than if you were using an evaporator/fan setup. 5) Will the compressor be low or high voltage/with an inverter? 6) Will you be using a digital temp controller or just a plain jane mechanical thermostat for the cooler and where will you install the temp sensor? So many questions about the system but as usual, you'll figure it out and not only will it work well, but it'll be done in a timely fashion. Good luck Aladino and Maya......The end is so close. I can't wait for the crane to set Magic Carpet II in the water. Best of luck.......Sam alston

    • @SailingMagicCarpet
      @SailingMagicCarpet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sam,
No drain for us but if fitted a loop is recommended for less temp loss. Our coolblue compressor and holding plate is indeed coated and specifically for marine environment. It’s actually one of the units with the lowest consumption available. Of course quality of the fridge and it’s insulation plays a role in that. No inverter required as it runs on 12 volts. And we will indeed insulate the suction line.
      Thanks!

That was Cool you get it Cool your new beautiful cooler /Fridge. Yes taking the reddish color of the teak and having the natural orange looks much better. Like I said before Aladino's a master workman and Maya you are also doing your part with which is essential as well great job you two.
Looking forward to next Sailing Magic video

A real craftsman can tackle any challenge and come up with an elegant, creative solution. Well done, Aladino! I totally agree that the teak looks so much better without the dated orange stain. Time well spent. It will be a much better backdrop when you resume your adventures on the water. Remember way way back when you were talking about the look of the interior, including the right lightning, for filming? It's certainly starting to come together very nicely.

Amazing patience by both of you! Aladinos skill is pretty amazing! I had a question regarding a drain hole in the bottom of the fridge in the event of a spill. Most production boats seem to have one. Not sure if it just drains into the bilge or is connected to a hose and ends up exiting the boat via a thru hull with other grey water. Anyhoo. I’m sure Aladino has thought of everything. Keep up the good work! & of glorious sanding! 😂 regards Doug from Vancouver BC.

Well my bilge alarm went off, prompting searches for where the water was getting in. The drain cover I didn't know I had in the fridge was leaking soda water into the bilges. Who thought that was a good idea?

I used to think of myself as being a very capable craftsman having built a multistory commercial building, a shoping mall, million $ homes from the slab up, and completed millions of $$ worth of commercial and residential renovations. Aladino, I just wanted you to know that my confidence in my capabilities has now plummeted to an all time low after seeing what you are capable of doing so thank you for that Aladino. 😂 Keep doing what you do Aladino. I love watching how meticulous and how methodical you are. I think we are cut from the same cloth but of course I am sorely lacking compared to you. 😢

As usual his work is flawless, I encountered the same issue and used shower stall liner from home depot to line my fridge, and had to use a special adhesive, but the liner is not brittle like fiberglass, and it was cheap to buy a 4x8 sheet...wish I could have provided this solution choice...and like Aladino, I woke up with the solution, same material I used to line the marine plywood I had to replace arond all the portlights which had leaked and destroyed the original teak veneer plywood...and it's white and brite, no dark cave for me!

Keep your head up kids, you guys are doing a great job. Trust me, I understand the frustrations and impatience, I'm building a workshop that has taken far too long and far too much money to complete. But most of it was out of my hands, and so we just keep plugging along. Remember, any progress is progress. As long as you are moving forward, you are moving toward the water. Keep it up, we all love watching. Great job as always.

Yes, keel cooled refrigeration sucks the big wango. Nothing like having to dump the fridge and freezer because you are going onto the hard. I mean honestly, my freezer now has too much fine shit to eat it all or throw it away. If I were ever to throw out 10 lbs of large red Argentine shrimp or the other things I have in there I would be highly not happy. Alidino's work is always crazy precise and very well thought out. He dreams in his deepest sleep of what will be needed to carry on when he awakens in the morning.

I'm not a sailor, but I imagine myself crossing an ocean without cold provisions, and my next thought is, I would never be a sailor. I love a great adventure, I also love a great plan for the great adventure. As always, the level of workmanship and the attention to the smallest detail is nothing short of amazing. Thanks for taking the time to share.
