As an iPad reader I found a nice way to read in the kindle app without straining my eyes too much, which is basically setting the book page color to black at night or beige at daytime, I have sensitive eyes and barely ever a problem with them hurting
If screen size is an issue for you, get an ipad. If battery life is important, get a Kindle. If you like the bright colored display but still want to read on the big display but want it to be in black and white, get an Ipad. With Kindle, you're stuck with their bookstore and may not be able to find the books you want, but with an IPad you can read on the Kindle app and you can purchase books on the Apple Books app. Really depends on what you want. Personally, I have bad eye sight, so I went with an IPad Air 2. Got it for 25 bucks.
I don’t have a kindle but I wanted to watch your comparison. I read my ebooks on my iPad mini and use my iPad 13 inch for all my other bookish things…reviews, Goodreads, etc. I agree everyone has a preference. I like that I can also use my iPad mini on the go and leave my big iPad at home. I turn off all my notifications on my iPad mini so I don’t get distractions when I read, so it’s perfect for reading and an on the go tablet. I do agree you can’t really compare the prices because the iPad can be used for a little more than a kindle. I would say if all you’re ever going to do is read a kindle is good enough. If you want a tablet and ereader in one I would recommend the iPad mini. I tried to read on the 11 inch and 13 inch iPads and they were just too big. Good video.
Thank you! I totally agree - reading on my iPad Air is too big and clunky but again, I can totally see how the mini would be perfect! I would love a mini too, they seem super cute but do I need it? Absolutely not 😂
I 100% agree with your pros for kindle. It being easy on the eyes is such a game changer for me, especially with looking at a phone all day when I’m not reading on my kindle. Okay let’s be real, I agree with al your pros for kindle hahaha the battery life is unmatched! I think the iPad is just so expensive, but seeing all your tracking a journal spreads really makes me want one so badly! 💕💕 Also a con for me, is Apple is constantly out dating their apps with certain updates. So like my iPad mini from 10 years ago can’t run any apps and is basically useless now. Great video bestie! 💕💕

It’s the distraction for me. I just got a Kindle gifted to me and I asked for it because I’m fine reading on my iPhone… if I read. But I don’t read, I surf the internet.
kindle for regular books (love libby support) and ipad for comics and manga for sure cuz the pretty colors!! my kindle basic is a lil too small to appreciate drawings/ art
I have always read on both devices since about 2011. I have had my moments with both, I have a use case for reading on both of them. I use my Mini for everything!!! literally, it is my daily driver for sure. I still have the Mini 6. I prefer the kindle if I may get distracted or for headaches. I use my iPad for reading if I want to use my ebook/audible, it will read it to me and follow along with me as I read AND turn the pages :):) I will also use it for apple audiobooks and audiobooks. I prefer to read on my iPad but I got the paper white in 2022 and have read more on it since. I upgraded from the 2010 Keyboard as well lol. I had stopped using it as much due to no backlight, poor battery and all that stuff and that is kind of how I started reading on my iPad a lot more. I have had my mini for 3 years and my paper white for 2. they are both fantastic! I have no plans to upgrade anytime soon. however, if someone said you could only use one forever, it would HANDS DOWN be my iPad because you can use any and all platforms for books vs just the amazon for kindle.
This is such a great example of how you can use both and both have such great use cases! I can see the mini being the perfect in between, I would love one but let’s be real I do NOT need it 😂 thanks so much for watching!!
I use my iPad Air (2022) that I bought on a really good sale back in July at Best buy for my graphic novels. I tried the Colorsoft for graphic novels and it was a huge let down so i sent it back and I'm gonna buy the PW SE.

I've had my kindle for at least 6 years now and although the new Kindles look amazing, I can't justify getting a new one when mine is still functional 😅 I did get a refurbished iPad (mostly so I could watch videos away from my PC or TV) but find I still don't use it as much as I thought I would. I rarely ever buy e-books unless they are on sale and not one I want to have physically. But since learning about stuff your kindle days at the beginning of the year I've been hooked 😂 And I'm planning on trying Kindle Unlimited after your videos talking about it and seeing how many books they have available now Loved getting to hear your comparisons and the pro vs. cons 💕
The good think about Kindle Unlimited too is you can usually get a good deal..even if you get it for a month or two, cancel...they'll send you a promo to get you back! I hope you enjoy! I might end up doing some kind of "what to do on your ipad" video becuase i feel like a lot of people struggle with this! for me, non-kindle tablet (Chrome, Apple, Android) then use Kindle App, Barnes & Noble Nook App, and one of the several apps that allows for digital checkouts from the library. Kindle looks you in, even though the "paper" display is awesome as is the Kindle unlimited but, I got tired of being locked in and what seems to be intentionally destroying their own devices as they age to force users to upgrade. My kindle was awesome for about two years, now it runs like a turtle and I only have a couple of audible titles on it and one kindle book. Runned like a 30 year old windows PC. Factory reset and it runs much better but when it updates the parachutes come out and the boat anchor drops out and slows it to a halt.
I don’t buy books in my iPad at all! If I do read on it, I’m using the kindle app or Libby app to read either kindle unlimited books or Libby loans. That’s what I would suggest personally, between the two you can get lot of bang for your buck
I totally prefer reading on my iPad Mini because the screen is far better imo and screen brightness is adjustable. I didn’t like the Kindle Paperwhite screen at all and can’t see why it’s popular. But my favorite has become listening on Audible. I tossed my Kindle into the garbage. It’s good we are all free to choose what we individually prefer.
For me I only buy the 99p ebooks, as i dont read enough on kindle to warrant a monthly subscription. Yes I may not technically own them but they will last longer than any subscription length I would pay for 😂, and for the 99p, as long as iv read the ebook then I'm fine with it, at worst it'll be a really cheap one time rental cost 😅 even if it was to be taken away lol. Iv also managed to collect a few free kindle books too so thats always a bonus.
I owned an ipad mini years ago and I am just done lol.. i also gave it to my mom and dad and they enjoyed it for a couple of years before it finally died. Now I am happy with my macbook air and iphone and an old iphone 😂 and i love my kindle and my recently bought kobo colour for reading. I don’t read on both my iPhones P.s. i still need to test my kobo colour more but I am so thrilled about the pencil 😂
Yes, all your notes and highlights on the kindle are tied to your Amazon account, so as long as you’re accessing them via the same account in the kindle app you can view them on your iPad!
I have my 7th gen iPad which I got in 2020 which is obviously a bit outdated now but It’s still fast and does everything I need it to. yet I’ve been thinking about getting a designated e-reader because everyone says they read more on theirs but I still don’t know if I should. I’m fine reading on my iPad but what if I’m missing out. consumerism is getting to me…
I get that! I think if you are fine reading on your iPad you might not need the kindle! I’m biased because I had my Kindle for years before I ever had an iPad, so I can’t imagine reading on one. I will say, I still think a kindle is worth the money!
I use a kindle and sometime my epub files can’t be transferred there so I have the kobo app on my phone and every epub file works with kobo. So when I’m in that situation I’ll read on my phone on the kobo app. Otherwise i strictly read on my kindle
You've sold me on the Kindle. However, you can't purchase through the Kindle app on Apple devices because Apple charges a 30% tax on all purchases. It's called the Apple tax, and it is why many Mac/iOS apps push you to buy through their independent website.
The biggest cons for reading on a iPad is you literally get distracted by every single time by using the internet and other apps 😅. This is why I want to get a Kindle so bad
This is a false dichotomy. Whether you have the latest Stephen King novel in paper format or on an e-reader, in neither instance do you own Stephen King's novel. You just own the medium that it is printed on.
It is frustrating how things have changed with the purchase of anything digital with Amazon. The music is the worse. I don't owe an actual kindle paperwhite, I have a kindle fire and have always used it as an e-reader. Plus, it's in color. The fire tablets are still laggy as far as internet usage but I never use it for that anymore. When it comes to downloading books, I just do it from my phone, because it will automatically show up on my Kindle fire. It may seem like a lot, but I'm used to taking the extra step, and it doesn't take long.
@geminipages I agree. It's such a PAIN to purchase music through Amazon. You literally have to do it from the actual website on a physical device, not your phone, AND THEN, you have to download it to your phone. It's absolutely ridiculous and shame on them for making the process so complicated instead of just purchasing from the app, and it auto downloads like before. I know it's just to make you purchase a prime music subscription, but I REFUSE to do that.
Of course, but the kindle and iPad have different screen types no matter how you adjust the brightness. iPad is going to strain your eyes while kindle will not because of the e-ink screen.
an e-reader and a tablet are just completely different devices. an e-reader is a very specific device, more or less one-purpose only. and for this one purpose, reading e-books, it‘s absolutely superior to anything else. but if you want to do things that go beyond just reading, it gets tricky. And to make it even more complicated, there are e-ink devices that completely blur the line between the usual e-reader and a tablet. They run android, you can download all the apps, they have much more powerful processors and are easily capable of doing splitscreen reading and note-taking. ^^ for the comparison you make in the video, the ipad mini would be a much closer contender, because of the small form factor.
agreed! i just don't have an ipad mini, and i have heard lots of people simply comparing kindles to ipads, so that's why i do so in the video! even the ipad mini is still heavier than a kindle.
It doesn’t! It’s just what people are used to. Before kindle it was barnes and noble etc. some of us big ebook readers hate being attached to specific platforms- they age and companies can revoke your license to these books (bc you don’t get to own them legally) at any time regardless of your money. After reading across platforms for so long I don’t want to manage 5 accounts. I manage my own library on Calibre and use Bookfusion to sync across devices. That way I don’t need amazon or anyone else in between me and my books :)
