VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
Hi everybody,
The Indian government has been extremely bullish on alternative sources of petrol and diesel for a long time now!! Especially Nitin Gadkari!!
And as Mr Nitin Gadkari constantly points out, crude oil prices keep fluctuating with geopolitical tensions, they are bleeding our foreign exchange reserves, and most importantly, they emit 12% of India's carbon emission!! And this is again causing both pollution and global warming!
But this is where Nitin Gadkari started the next big fuel revolution in India!! And his vision is so optimistic that he says, India will not just stop imports but we will go to become an exporter of Fuel to the world!! And one of the most important instruments of this massive revolution is a fuel that we all know as compressed natural gas or CNG
Now if you are a think school student, you know what this means right??!! What is the government, the government is the godfather of the market, and if the godfather is bullish on something, then it points towards a million dollar business opportunity!!
Infact, if you look at market reports, the share of CNG powered vehicles has been going up from 3.5% of passenger vehicle sales in 2019 to 11% in 2022!! and it's expected to grow to 18% in the next 5 years!!
And, you know what, Bajaj Auto and Maruti Suzuki have done such an incredible job that today, they have a market share of 79% and 75% respectively!! And this market is booming so fast, that Maruti has increased its cng sales by 4 times in the last 6 years. Tata motors wants to make the CNG sales equal to EVs!!! And recently if you saw the news, Bajaj Auto is going to release the World’s first CNG powered bike in India!!
So ladies and gentlemen, we are witnessing not 1 not 2 but 3 automobile revolutions together, which are EVs, Hydrogen and now the CNG revolution.
So, in today’s case study, let’s deep dive and understand
Why is CNG considered to be the next game changing fuel for India?
What has bajaj auto done to be the market leader in this space?
What is the Indian government doing to boost the cng industry in india? And, lastly, for people like you and me, what are the new opportunities in this growing market?

Toothsi is scaming ...Dental council has issued safety violations to Toothsi already for treating the patients at home. Be aware..
It is not fair to compare prices currently. CNG has low consumption, once it has high consumption, govt will increase taxes and make it costly just like petrol
TRUE !
Taxes are levied in order to avoid consumption not to increase
You are absolutely right.
That's not how it works
U can make ur own cng and run vehicle
CNG have a few issues (Saying from Bangladesh where majority cars/three wheelers are run by CNG)
1. Refueling time is quite long for CNG
2. CNG pressure becomes really low during winter
3. CNG Capacity in a vehicle is low and hence it requires more frequent refueling.
And then there's the CNG blast risks.
is it challenging to use cng in winter due to low pressure? any cons or drawback can you please explain
@@swagatamkalita8209 when it comes using there's no problem tbh. But refueling becomes painfully slow during winter as there's less gas pressure in the CNG Pumps. In the morning you won't be able to refuel. It creates massive timing issue. So, having 2 options will always be better.
Also the energy destiny of CNG is less than petrol diesel or lithium ion battery. And it occupies more volume. You can store only 4-5 kg of CNG in a normal bike whereas it is possible to store 20 litres of petrol or diesel and electric battries are able to give 200+ km of range on a 4 hr charge now.
@@Krishna-pt3yu That's what I've mentioned in point 3
@@ziaulhaque8707 yeah and CNG is also a fossil fuel so dont understand how its a viable atleast short term alternative to EVs.
One important factor of comparatively less CNG cars sell is (not mentioned in video) the Boot space it takes especially hatchback cars of middle class people causing inconvenience for luggage space on long journey
But choice for consumers limits na ...this has to be adapted by maruti also @@bishnurokka8199
Tata has fixed this
We retrofit in petrol or diesel vehicles that is why it takes boot space if OEMs put those in the assembly line itself this would not be a problem, and that is depended on the demand for such car to push OEMs to do so
In swift, you can adjust if you know how to
Tata had fixed that too 😃

@Ganesh Another Big Reason of people not adopting CNG vehicle is that they feel it's unsafe and a CNG car can blast, it would be great if you share some research on this also.
It's been in the market for a long time!
Death by cng are much less than the death caused by train travel or airplane travell, I am using cng from 12 years after 3 lakh km and 5 different cars I could say it worth to have cng
@@djsunshine1 Agree, Yet the adoption is too low even in NCR where the availability is not a challenge
Petrol and cng are both explosive fuel I don't know what type of safety of u thinking about
Also one major concern is boot space. When most middle class by small hatchbacks and Sedan, CNG tank takes up most boot space
A total game changer...so proud to be part of this changing India.
CO2 climate change is a global scam, but reducing petrol dependence makes sense.
@@AviAni-yi9xjwhat’s funny?
Inconsistency in the price of CNG is a major turnoff. In MP it is 93/kg
Still it is cheaper than petrol.

Hhh
@@hrushikeshavachat900 you are right
Biggest drawback of CNG vehicles from the user perspective is a lackluster performance. Put 5 people in a car and run it on the highway and ghat sections, you'll feel the engine struggling to perform like a petrol and diesel car. So CNG intrigues only to those people, who are buying entry level cars like Alto, Celerio and WagonR and are super budget conscious. But if we look at the market trends, car buying habits in India are changing. Earlier cars like Alto and Celereo used to dominate the charts, but today we see even ₹15 - ₹20L cars like Creta and Scorpio N in the top 5. And those customers won't like a lackluster performance at that price.
Also cost of diesel and CNG becomes same for long distance travelling
nobody cares about milega anymore,if they did then they won't have broughta car
Most indians mindset is still that CNG is not so cool and a car is a status symbol rather than an asset
ya agreed as car is and was always a luxury in India it will always b like that bt the transport and cab service guyz will alwys go for cng.. n low income grps/ ppl who dnt care abt drive experience will go for cng.. too

Govt plans to set an easy achieve-able target and ramp up the process of construction in a fast pace. But there is a big misconception in the market affecting the sales are the dangers that people considered regarding having a gas cylinder fitted to the cars which might cause explosions and the unavailability of filling stations.

Just a fleeting thought for a suggestion - why not, towards the end, structure the opportunities bit as per the class/situation/age of your audience. E.g. in this video, one can say -
1. For upper class/family business people there is a potential opportunity in owning and operating these CNG stations
2. For middle-class/millennial professionals, there is an opportunity in exploring investments into listed CNG players and their ancillary companies/vendors
3. For genz's, particularly who are starting a career in engineering, CNG value chain players can be a good source of internships/jobs to ride this wave

We are way behind the European & American standards, better late then never. But our Indian Government needs to push for energy alternatives seamlessly, currently we are lagging behind a bit. By 2028, atleast 35 - 50% of vehicles should go with alternatives. My city, Vijayawada, RTC buses fleet & all autorickshaws are ran 100% by CNG since 2005.
American standards are actually some of the most far behind. Europe is ahead of us in some terms but we are not that far behind (in pro-rated terms). Leaders are China for now. But I'm optimistic about snatching the lead from them in the next 25 years. But yes, Americans are actually the furthest behind. I stay in new york so I'm aware of the ground reality here.

Wonderful content as always. The topic of this video left me thinking that when people have an option to go electric where the operating cost is minimal and one can breakeven in a few years, how does CNG compare to such entry level electric cars at the cost of loosing the boot space. As we all know that most of the entry level car owners don't drive more than 200 km/day.

Ur content and creative narration is amazing ❤
Great info bro
This is one of the best u tube channel ❤
But you have not mentioned the point that India stillneeds to import CNG ..so I am not very clear on how it's reducing the imports? Is it because it is less expensive and more efficient or we have some natural resources for CNG
You can make a video on Green Hydrogen as well.
Thanks bro. Quite an informative video on CNG.
don't know about other states but Gujarat has pretty solid CNG infrastructure. There are literally CNG only fuel stations in my city with 8-10 online pumps but there is still short supply and u can find long ques in rush hour partly because filling up CNG takes more time and u have to get out of vehicle.
1 more thing to add ,here in my area if you use CNG car then you are considered as you can't afford petrol so you are using CNG so that's a status problem And other one is CNG is less powerful when compared to petrol or diesel vehicle
Yea, CNG is used by cabs and Autos. In the past, most cars never came in CNG also. This status issue is real.

Thanks! I was waiting for the important part where you compared CNG 2 wheelers and Electric 2 wheelers. It is such an important comparison and I can't see how you could have missed it.
Ek number Bhai...
How come a basic point is missing ?? If demand grows and the price piles up. How this cannot be applicable for CNG ??
@thinkschool As CNG is a natural resource, do you think there is enough availability to secure the future?
India has a huge potential w.r.t biogas and biomethane.
We've seen the rise & fall of CNG in Pakistan & it hasn't turned out well. Not only it significantly increases the maintenance of the engine but also it isn't sustainable in the long run.
On top of that, CNG cylinders can cause some really deadly explosions. You can find CCTV footages of that online.
The last car I purchased, I deliberately kept it on petrol as even though CNG did provide good mileage but it also caused losses later on.
Thanks for sharing. Interesting view. Lots of people are mentioning about blasts. This video should have also included a comparison to EVs which is more important that comparing the cars to Petrol/Diesel.
Invest heavily in GAIL, the father of CNG operations..It might change your fortune, in addition to growth potential it pays healthy dividends as well. May God bless you all...

There are already many videos on it
In the PV segment.......High initial cost(and also high breakeven in km to match the ice),low engine output, lack of safety in cng cylinders, lack of boot space are main reasons not only infrastructure ...and also present cng vehicles are predominantly used by cab drivers. The paradigm shift is still a long way
Safety issues and lack of boot space are problems due to the typical mindset of Indian people. They will buy a 3rd party mechanic fitted CNG systems in order to save costs. The second class which is somewhat lierate will buy a petrol car and go for company fitted CNG tank. This is safer bit still risky.
One needs to buy the cars that are fitted with CNG tanks during assembly itself. This is the costliest option but it is as safe as petrol and also solved the issue of boot space.
Very much surprised to see today's video content, especially in general election times😅
We expect these kind of videos from you ...
Great content, however what is the production capacity of CNG in India and do we have sufficient resources to produce?
Its about personal interest, i prefer EV only. My personal preference. For mass consumption cng etc is helpful.
CNG, gasoline, diesel, ethanol etc are in govt or some private entity's control, but electric vehicles are not. We can produce our own electricity by solar, so that never to worry about price increase in the future. Hydrogen may be another option, that we can produce from water. No pollution too.
This is an important view.
That's the ignorance at its peak.
To run solar you'll need panels, batteries, conductors, electrical components. Do you think government won't hike the tax for those ?
20 to 30 years ago, we all would have thought that water is nature's gift and no need to pay. Is it the case today ?
Aren't government charging you water bills?
Honda Activa CNG came but it was a flop due to the size limitations of the cylinder
Can you please look at bio cng also?
As the normal cng is extracted via the oil wells but bio cng is made via the waste just like the bio gas. Would like to see some indepth research on it please.
Hi Ganesh & Team think scholl,
Few important points
1) Do india produce enough CNG to run it's >60% vehicular traffic? Or do we need to import it after certain point
2) The major reason 4 wheeler market may not be very optimistic are Safety and power compromise, I think you need to highlight that
3) Cng filling station also have 2 types if i am not mistaken online and offline

India's Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is sourced from both domestic production and imports. Approximately 35-40% of the natural gas used for CNG production comes from domestic sources, while the remaining is imported in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from different countries 1.
India imports approximately 37% of its natural gas consumption 2. The distribution of LNG imported into India in 2021, by country of origin, is as follows:
Qatar: 40%
United States: 24%
Russia: 18%
Australia: 9%
Nigeria: 5%
Others: 4%
This data may be useful

CNG cars don't have large boot space due to the cylinder placement. This is a huge deal breaker for many buyers, especially the vehicles in the transport business that'll be used for long travel as there'll be more luggage to carry. Due to the high pressure, CNG must be stored in cylinders as this shape can withstand high pressure. Hopefully the car designers can come up with something to place the cylinder without compromising the boot space.
Thanks for the knowledge
We are so diversified with energy sources, we need to focus on high efficient, least emission source. As of now it's BEV, not hybrid, cng, amonia, gasoline, hydrogen etc that uses engines that inherently have 25-30% efficiency compared to 80-95% Bev efficiency.
What is BEV
Ok I got what is BEV but I think for now till the ev infra and tech is still progressing I think hybrid are still better
@@Indiginous Yes, but without effort from government. To establish an ecosystem for electric vehicles it's very difficult for this new tech vehicles acceptance to the public, but here also it's the cheapest and more viable option compared to available alternative. Another point just that we have many ethanol sources, increasing its consumption in the automobile industry makes sense.

Naa we need to find another alternative. Dont know about the renewability factor about CNG but I am pretty sure it would be lackluster for long term investment.
Rather fund more for renewable resources. It would take quite while for even petrol to run out..
EVs are obviously a better option, even in the future with maybe with new cells we could even gain far more efficiency and even cleaner sources.
Do we produce CNG or again we have to import it?
definitely it would be a newcomer to the alternatives lineup, also when compared to the lpg storage cylinders , a cylinder of the same size with the durability to withstand cng can store more than ten times of the storage capacity of lpg, even when the cylinder is of the same size of an lpg cylinder, not only this is a factor , also we have some proven natural gas reserves in india and we all importing less than 45 percent of natural gas india , now also it is a important factor to check on

If CNG vehicles become more common than petrol vehicles, then gov would make CNG as much expensive as petrol.
Correct.
Yes, it's true but we have to see that, if central government succeed to increase the production of CNG (with the increase of demand of CNG.) then the prices of CNG will not increase. At same time, government fail to increase the production then only the rate will increase.
It's better at least they are paying off Oil Bonds Issued by UPA to provide subsidised fuel which people think is lower priced.
They just want to be in power in whatever way possible irrespective of replication of such acts.
What are you saying ? Petrol prices are higher in global market now !
Bai don't expect the fuel prices to be cheaper in india. It is impossible to do it.
India is heavily dependent on petrol and diesel at past n present. Petrol n diesel r nothing but cruide oil. We r important more than 70%of cruide oil from foreign countries. We r more dependent on foreign countries fr cruide oil.
If cruide oil prices r increased by foreign countries then it automatically reflects in Indian market also. This results in inflation.
So govt is pushing CNG n EV vehicles so that our dependency on cruide oil decreases.
If our dependency on cruide oil decreases then inflation can be controlled.
Not only inflation control. Hum jitna dusre country se dependent rahega utna hii humko dikkat hoga.
