    Hot dam this game is a glorious chaotic mess and I am totally here for it. It's fascinating how well it executes its theme, which should be impossible to get accross. But you get all the aspects of being a pro-CCG player or the hero of a card playing tv show, all nicely bound into a pretty complex, but not overwhelmingly so game. Using the simulation approach to the tournaments was the key, keeping it to 6 card plays that matter is perfect. What a neat game and i wish i could play it a lot more than i do.

      L99 seem to have a knack for making neat card games

    Man this game has been on my radar for a long time but you just explaining the basics is a lot. Still gonna buy it of course cause I love anything level 99 games makes.

      I've played 3 of their games and all 3 are in my permanent collection. This, Argent and Empyreal.

    It's one of those games I've only ever busted out a handful of times, but each time I did was a 10/10 experience. It is the fastest 3 hour long game I've ever played.

  • @enterprise9001
    @enterprise9001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    L99 isn't always perfect but they're the masters of making games that are absolutely packed with content. Even smaller games of theirs like Pixel Tactics feel like they crammed as much as they could into a game that costs $10.

  • @JonoNZBoardGamer

    This game is one that I would love to play but probably would never own. I doubt I would get it played in my group but if I went to a small convention and it was there with enough willing players, I'm sure I would enjoy it a lot

    I bought this game not too long ago with several of the expansions and I have not been even slightly disappointed since! This game is everything I could have ever wanted in a board/card game and it gives you the same feel as playing a full blown tcg without any of the the regret that comes with tcgs and blowing hundreds of dollars on booster packs and singles 😆! Definitely worth every cent if you want something challenging and unique to add to your collection that you and some dedicated friends can bust out.

    I absolutely love this game. I wish I could get it played more often.
    The new collusion rules and mechanics add a lot to the game and I would never play without them.
    The solo mode is pretty cool too.

      @@3MBG There is some good content but a lot of the rules can be used in the base version. It splits the store deck from the other deck, fusions are no longer just top decking. A few other things.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah, fusions were always the hot trade thing, or deck underpinner. Get a good one, and you can build around it. But so much luck, so that sounds good

    Great review Jarrod! I generally avoid games that require me to negotiate with other players but this game might work if I can only trade a card for equal value. Then maybe it becomes a win-win transaction. Thx!

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Trades are actually pretty rare compared to just selling it to the aftermarket and having someone else grab it there, which is a form of indirect trade. Which also speeds up the game as well.

    @sevencoloredmage8726 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Looking forward to their reprint.But for this game I will have to overcome my urge to sleeve every board and wargame in high end sleeves. The cost would be crazy high, the sleeving would take forever and the draw decks would probably be really high

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The cards are solid, and unless you are planning on playing this 200 odd times, i would really not be worried about wear

    • @jimbobjones9330
      @jimbobjones9330 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Given how the store deck is constructed, unless you intend to play with the same store decks dozens of times, you really won't need to sleeve them.
      Plus, given how much cardplay is in this game, you really don't handle your cards that much. About 90% of the time, any given cards are just sitting there on the table (not in your hands or anything)

  • @raphaeld9270
    @raphaeld9270 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1:55 Quick correction, trading cards can be done with non-equal star values, you just are __required__ to pay the difference in cash. This is to discourage players being taken advantage of too much.
    Other than that great video for a game that I'll get when it goes back in print next year, hopefully.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      IIRC, that's an optional rule. One not recommended with new players

    • @raphaeld9270
      @raphaeld9270 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@3MBG There is a " Free Market Mode" but it rather throws away the requirement for equal stars+cash on both sides:
      "Free Market Mode is an optional rule for
      advanced players who are very confident in
      their card evaluation abilities.
      With Free Market Mode, players may make
      uneven trades. That is, both sides of a trade do
      not need to match up in terms of __Millennium
      Dollars and Star Ratings__." (From the latest rules I could find, p.15)
      The rules for normal trading from the rulebook read as follows:
      "You can always Trade with other players
      directly, without using the Aftermarket.
      However, any trades made between players
      must be equal value trades. That is, the __total
      of all Star Ratings and Millennium Dollars__
      must be equal on both sides of the trade.
      If you are making a trade that clearly benefits
      one side more than the other, you may wish to
      ask the other side for Friendship in addition
      to the other trade items."
      (p.9 of the same rules)
      But as I said, great video rule regardless :D

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, yes, very correct. I think i may have taught it to people with equal trades just to simplify it and it stuck in my head.

      @@3MBG Yeah, not that big a deal in the big scheme of things. (Millenium Blades looks like a game that is hard to really "break" per-say)

    As of the latest expansion, you do not shuffle the core cards into the store deck. They are now there own deck you can buy from instead.

    • @3MBG

      Interesting. I clearly don't have that expansion. I have set rotation and the core only i think

    • @JoshuaBublin
      @JoshuaBublin 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@3MBG The other expansion is collusion. It was Kickstarter only, but they are repacking it and most of the mini expansions into new boxes to get them back on the market. Also, instead of dealing 6 cards from the top of the store during deck building, you deal 3 from the core set and 3 from the store.

      Fireflys money is pretty, but nothing close to the satisfaction of the wadded stacks of cash in MB. Throwing down lots of 10 bills wrapped up together, so at times 90 bills at a time, is really tactile.

    Could have said it all better, including the fact that this game should be a complete mess and instead: it's brilliant. I have everything for this game and it's too much. There is so much in just the base game that the rest of the stuff is only for the diehards. In other words: it's a typical L99 game :D
