    One feel or thought that really worked for me for initiating the downswing correctly was the feeling of "falling" into my left side / left foot (as a right handed golfer), once my backswing begins to get towards the top. Once you "fall" into that left foot / left side, you then fire your hands and rotate through the shot (by rotate through, I mean feeling like you're throwing your right shoulder down towards the ground).

    Hi Chris, you’ve nailed this one! As it makes perfect sense to assist the majority of golfers on the planet. I can only wish that this was explained to me many years (decades ago) as a junior. Personally, as living on a golf course which enables me to watch group after group tee off I actually see more falling backwards than finishing forwards and this very video explains why. Keep up with the great content you provide for free!

      I’ve definitely seen my fair share of golfers falling back of the shot as you say! Seems that the go to move for many. Hope this helps

    Brilliant! Amateur players get to the lead side way too late and great players get to their lead side much earlier in the downswing. A subtle point, but one worth noting. Once I understood this concept, I was able to finally take nice divots “after” the ball and hit the ball further!

    I usually ignore most TH-cam videos of golf instruction. Some are okay. Chris though is comparable to a top 25 golf instructor. I've had a lesson before with one. The 1 hr was phenomenal and led to pure strokes and corrected a glitch id developed. After seeing some of Chris videos I have to say, I'm disappointed he's not more recognized. His videos are excellent and is embarrassing others have more subscribers. Well done. Great instruction. Simple, concise and very well explained

    Great instruction Mr. Ryan. I sure wish I lived in your country. After I practice and perfect this drill, my brain will be experiencing the next fault. LOL. But for real, I feel like this movement away from the ball is what I have been doing the past few weeks.

    Chris, what do think about actually starting the transition by lifting the lead foot, while playing ? Seems like major league hitters do this all the time.

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah plenty of great golfers do that, it’s often just very subtle, Rory comes to mind, really hard to see but if you ever see his swing from behind his lead heel lifts a touch and then back down to start, so it’s a great idea

    I know you said for irons, but I guess this is the same thing for driver and woods too. If you shift weight on your back leg and don't put pressure back into that lead leg, when you try to swing the driver I imagine you'd get a lot of thin drives or hitting it off the bottom of the club even. Which makes sense in our head because we don't want to "hit down" on the driver, so we feel the need to stay back and try to scoop the ball into the air.

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the ball is high enough on the peg then keeping a little more back can be ok, the move with a driver is a little different due to the ball on a tee and we are generally after a movement which is more consistent to creating speed

    • @xerodeus2337
      @xerodeus2337 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChrisRyanGolf yeah makes sense. For me I found myself being able to almost lift up my entire lead foot at impact with the driver, leading to hitting off the bottom of the driver lol. Staying more centered and even a bit of push into that lead foot, lets me kick that left hip back, and swing up/through!
      great video!

    Chris, I need your help. I have been a longtime subscriber. I’m 72 and can shoot in the 80’s. I have limited flexibility (getting old) and a back surgery. I’m having difficulty in preventing my shoulders from starting the downswing and going over the top. I watched all your videos on the transition and can’t shallow the downswing. Can you give me some advice to help me?

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Peter, I can certainly try. Does get much harder if flexibility is reduced, without seeing the swings it’s touch to say, but sequencing a weight shift would be very closely connected. If you feel your timing is out and upper starts too early I would look to weight shift and see if that can help. Shifting earlier into your right side and then in turn earlier into your left can help to get the lower body leading and improve the sequencing, step drills are great for this in practice

    I’m exploring stack and tilt, where you keep your weight on your font side through the backswing
    Wondering what you think of that method?

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it can help some who really struggle with ball striking, it can make driver a little trickier if you keep too much weight forwards so I’d personally look to a swing which will be efficient with all clubs
