Land Rover Defender Raptor Engineering Dash Binnacle Upgrade

- My original Defender binnacle cracked, so I replaced it with a Raptor Engineering steel binnacle. It is a direct replacement suitable for pre-2000 Defenders. It comes in black powder coating, with optional black or silver anodised aluminium bezels available. Upgrading the binnacle mount to a steel version is highly recommended to hold the extra weight. An easy way to stop rattles. Installation takes a few hours. Available from: www.raptor-eng...

That looks spot on. The guy who makes them is up the road from me so I might have to get one when I do the centre dash pod.
Really sharp looking units. Lucky you're so close! Took a month or two to get mine from one of the local importers.
Ive got a dash switch mini mount from them, its great quality, really good value too
Raptor is a great company with great products . The centre console with its different panels 👌👌👌
very simple but a great upgrade, looks neat!
Thanks Will.
owwww what a great idea!! love the bling-free option
I have one of these. Nice bit of kit. Subtle upgrade but a massive improvement
Haven't heard a rattle out of my dash since.
Grazie Brett per il video, semplice ma efficace! Un saluto dal Lago di Como, Italy!
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice work/upgrade Brett... less rattles equals more sanity on long haul tours :)
instablaster...
just installed mine , your video helped ,thanks.
I've been on the fence about buying one of these ... think you may have just sold it to me... cheers chap!
You're welcome Matt. Anytime you need an excuse to blow money on more Defender gear you just let me know! ;-)
Did you get one Matt?
Brilliant stuff Brett, been planning one for a while, guess what I’ll be ordering on Monday, great opportunity to upgrade the gauge lights to LED’s too. Cheers.
Thanks John. LED's are an awesome upgrade. You'll never look back.
Nice one Bret 👍
Thanks mate.
Great video as always Brett. I've recently fitted the same thing and what an improvement. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Chazni. Very happy with it.
hello is that your glow plugs warning symbol on your dashboard lights second one in from the right bottom row 2:44 into your video?
WHICH DID ONE FOR OLD LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 1 AS THAT DO SAME CRACKED WAY OVERTIME
Oh NO!! No more bottle cap!! ......... I hope you kept that? It's a little piece of the history of your travels 😉 (you should probably just screw it back on, even though it's not needed 😎)
no Rod, long gone. It served its purpose.
@@RoamingTheOutback I must be getting old & sentimental 😢
Nice!
great video as always Brett :)
Thanks Todd!
What a great up-date whilst keeping the standard look for the binnacle. Just a thought though.. would 'Raptor Liner' sprayed onto the housing prior to installation give the old 'dimpled' look? Might give it a try. Top video cobber. Cheers for sharing :)
Thanks mate. Possibly, or get it re-powder coated in a matt or satin black antique (dimple) finish. You might need to file away the extra coat to slide in the gauges if tolerances change.
Hey Brett. Did you source them directly from Raptor in the UK? How much was the postage?
No I ordered mine from British Offroad. I was quoted Carriage via FedEx £36.40 by Raptor.. worked out a little cheaper buying it local.
Hey Brett, is thread lock needed on the nuts holding the gauges and binacle? Just interested if threadlock has any effect with the vibration you get on those tracks. Cheers mate
Hey mate. I didn't use any thread lock. My speedo has been rock solid for years and the 2 gauges are VDO screw on type.. Probably no harm in using the mild version of thread lock if you wanted to be certain.
Land Rovers seem very simple and easy to work on, but I guess they need to be.
Take the steering wheel off it makes it loads easier
350k on the speedometer ? That's impressive!
With the new engine rebuild should be able to triple that.
Mines only just started cracking but not looking forward to doing this
Easy enough. As long as the plastic binnacle holder isn't broken as well.
Roaming The Outback it has cracked on the left side as yours did
how to get the metal dashboard meter panel brader?
sorry mate don't understand.
mine is broken! Please,Where can I purchase one like that ?
Find them here: www.raptor-engineering.co.uk/
No ajusted
Le cadre n'est pas ajusté complètement
I had both the upgraded steel binnacle mount and steel binnacle. There may have been more adjustment options compared to the plastic LR original parts.
@@RoamingTheOutback
I myself have the metal support + the metal frame impossible to adjust should something be changed in the steering column?
@@mustafaturkoglu1407 steering coloum doesn't have any adjustment as far as I know. Every Defender is unique. Depends on how much adjustment your looking for. Mine is sufficiently close enough to the dash for my liking.
how did you get on making contact with the guy's at Raptor Engineering i have had a couple goes through there website but still no reply
Pretty sure I just emailed my order and they worked out the shipping.. maybe try from another email address in case of spam filters.
