Looking to kit out my 12ft Jon & do this exact same fishing! Major inspiration & love to learn by watching a veteran. Nanaimo local as well .. keep up the great videos!!
I was out there today, hooked into a monster, 140 feet just off neck point park look out. They seem to be hovering in that area. I get most of the bites there.
It’s always the bigger the dream, the bigger the heartbreak. We’ll have to get in touch in about a month for a fish. It’ll take me a few more weeks or so to get setup.
The Chinooks/Kings I have caught, there is no way I would want to be in a kayak trying to reel them in, even being in a normal boat, I found it to be one of the most aggressive and violent experiences in hooking any other salmon. Granted, they have all been large fish, no way would I want to experience those fish in a narrow kayak.
Yes, fishing for chinooks on the kayak is something I worked up to. I started by trolling for lake trout, then making my way up to ocean trolling for salmon. Safety is a huge part of fishing for these beasts as well. I'm out there with a drysuit, visible flag, vhf radio and staying within eyesight of people on shore. Once you have these measures in place, being on the kayak reeling in a king, is a feeling like no other!
@@keep_on_fishing My kayak is surf ski expedition cross hybrid, it is stable, but nothing I'd use for Chinooks, I have used it for Coho/Silvers, they do not fight anything like Chinook, I find they roll when hooked. Chinook run like a mother. I want to fish on my Inside Passage trip to use salmon as my largest source of protein, hooking a chinook would be a wild ride.
3 absolute beaut’s! Nice work out there. I’ll be out soon for some Christmas meals 🤞
Hope to fish along side with ya soon!!

Hey thanks for the comment! Let me know if you have any questions about a simple set up or area to fish!
@ appreciate the reply! What rod / reel / line combo would you suggest? Many thanks in advance.
I just bought a Jackson Gnarr FD. I live in the same area. Hopefully see you out there soon.

Thought I was going crazy rewatching this
@@platbotcalvin3745 sorry I had to re edit the original upload. I added another catch and took out the small ling I caught!!! Tight lines!!
Which dry suit did you get?
This one is a custom suit my brother gave me who used to underwater dive in. It's a bit extreme..I was so hot almost wanted to jump in the water!
@@keep_on_fishing lol. Awesome. Looks good though.
What drysuit are you wearing?
It's actually a military underwater dive suit. Reason why it's so warm!!
