  • Hello World! This week’s adventure brings me to West Orange, NJ where I get to visit the Thomas Edison National Historical Park. I get to have a walk around his amazingly preserved laboratories and machine shops where many of his original prototypes are still on display. From there, I head over to his Glenmont mansion for a look at its exterior and a walk around the property. Another great Unkle Heavy away trip you won’t want to miss. Do come along!!!

      You know me, I LOVE old machinery. Wish I could have powered that system up to see if it still ran!

    Liked seeing Mrs. Heavy at the end on the bench. Those cars are pretty incredible too.

      Yes, it's always fun when Mrs. Heavy makes a cameo!!!

    That is such a cool place. I never knew that was in New Jersey. We really want to see that. The machine shops were because all of the equipment made and invented were all so heavy duty. So many cool things on display. Edison's house was awesome. Hopefully they will open the house one day.

      I highly recommend checking it out! It's in a great location, plenty of free parking and it's part of the NPS. You can wander around the labs for hours just looking at everything!!!

    Enjoyed the tour Dave. Lot's of "shocking" history there! Just think of all the amazing inventions that came out of there. We enjoyed seeing old factory. Was this just for prototype's and the mass production done elsewhere? Amazing man, amazing history. Had he and Nikola Testa been able to get along and continue working together think how much more could have come. Too bad about the house being closed for renovations. Would have loved to see it. This wasn't his only amazing house either. His wallet was huge! Thanks for bringing us along.

      Thank you so much Dave!!! From what I found, this facility was predominantly used just for research and development and manufacturing was done off site. The only exception was the Black Maria studio up in front was an active Kinetoscope filming studio. Could you only imagine what would have become of Tesla and Edison working together!? Someday I'll go back and film the interior of that house!!

    Very cool! Michelle has a future as a mannequin or statue! We needed more water tower footage 😂. House was gorgeous too bad you couldn’t go inside. Electric bill can’t be that bad when you’re the guy who invented it 😆

      Yeah, we like to do silly things together. I figured I'd catch it on video for a change. 🤣

    Fascinating Dave! I can just imagine this place in its heyday with workers at their machines and there must have been a few of them! The great man watching over them! It'll be great to see inside his house once the reno's are all finished!!👍

      Thank you Robbie!! I would so love to see all that equipment running! The pully and belt system was just so cool and I love old machinery!!! I'll have to go back someday and have a look around the interior.

    Thomas who? I’m kidding, you don’t have to do a introduction. I’ve heard of him.
    This place is nuts! The clocks and books. I need a three story office/ library filled with books.

      @UnkleHeavy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know, right? That library was something else!!! If only they'd let us go up on the tiers and have a good look around. I'm betting there are tons of hand written notes from him somewhere up there!

      @@UnkleHeavy That would be pretty cool to see maybe some notes in the margins of books?
