- In My Room, a Beach Boys classic from 1963, and one of my favorites, is covered here by me and the "Dave's". This song has always been special to me, as I've always been an introvert, especially when growing up, and my own bedroom offered me a special place all my own where I could reflect, plan, dream, feel safe, energized... you name it!
Most of this cover version is sung with a 3-part harmony and a lower bass vocal part. In the bridge there are 2 brief lines where a 5-part harmony is used.
The beginning of this video introduces everyone performing in it separately, then starting the second verse all the way to the end of the song, the five main instruments/vocals are displayed on the screen all together.
"In My Room" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Gary Usher for the American rock band The Beach Boys. It was released on their 1963 album Surfer Girl. It was also released as the B-side of the "Be True to Your School" single. The single peaked at number 23 in the U.S. (the A-side peaked at number 6, for a two-sided top-40) and was eventually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. "In My Room" was ranked number 212 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Dave, I have always loved this song and it makes me think of my dad. He used to play his drums to the The Beach Boys. We listened to them a lot. Good times. You sounded fantastic on this with all your parts and the video was great! Loved it! 😊

I'm trying to do it live with help of two TC Helicon Harmony pedals and two mics, on week 3 and still struggling. Playing the guitar to 6/8 timing and having to hit both pedals to activate harmony parts with both feet is not easy, but not giving up! You are an inspiration, you absolutely killed it, great job!!!

So happy to see ya doing this, man. Its one of my fav 20 songs of all time (and i have about a thousand) ! Love at the end how there are five of you ! I was just thinking of it last night = deja vu here. Hey have you delved into anything about Brian Wilson's life !? he was no boy scout as i had thought, what a hero ! (His book, "Wouldn't It be Nice" is one source). His father was an abusive nut, one brother lived with Charlie Manson, another brother drowned while drunk, and another died of lung cancer. Brian himself became a BIG time drug addict and developed such mental problems he was severely paranoid and stayed in bed for over a year. Then his manager/friend ripped him off for everything. All this, he survived and is very cool, gotta love him. ~ Kandace
Hey Kandace, I don't know a ton about Brian, and what you shared here is probably equal to the amount I already knew about him. Very interesting guy indeed and he's been through so much and IS such a genius. In fact his musical genius had a lot to do with the songwriting greatness of my favorite band, THE Beatles, as they would hear his albums and aspire to make things as good as they were hearing from the BBoys. Especially the Pet Sounds LP.
Paul Mccatrney has often said his favorite song is "God Only Knows"...
@@DaveRucci FYI, At the risk of boring you.... From Brian's own book: They were making the last album of that era: "SMILE" which had music about the elements: fire, wind, water, earth, etc. They were recording the Fire music in Chicago and Brian lit some fires in the studio for feeling. (The music is really great, and a rare copy was on YT here maybe 10 yrs ago, i dunno if its still here or not !!). But he looked out the window and hallucinated that the next door building and other nearby structures were on fire, so he called the authorities and stated that he had started another Chicago fire. When they arrived nothing was burning except the studio he was in so they arrested him. Shortly later he became despondent and stayed in bed for a year and got to be about 400 lbs in his weight. His band had to gigs without him. Don't get me wrong, i DESPISE drugs. But i'm just pointing out that as you say, this man was a GENIUS and had trouble fitting into a society full of mediocer people. :)
