*I'm going Partisan to have decent defense/melee/ranged, then later switching to dual weapons and dodging/rolling a lot with a smaller amount of each magic stat to play with the three kinds of magic.*
I started with an Orian Preacher, personally. I'm wanting to build a Heavy-Armor Battlemage eventually. Seemed like my best option, even starting with the Crusader available, I think range is key early on. I took down Pieta solo at lvl 14, so I wouldn't say it's too squishy...

Saw this video and I did the same thing as I did in Remant 2 (picking Veteran thinking it was normal) by picking the Blackfeather Ranger as you said it was a advance class, ouh well at least I look like the coolest out of the many classes 😎
Had to hold off on the deluxe because I knew if I got dark crusader it’d ruin the experience for me fashion wise because I’d never take the starting armor off, that and I want to feel rewarded for unlocking the class

The choice is more about getting maximum flexibility and usable stats after respeccing. In Elden Ring, Vanguard was clearly the best class as long as you didn't plan on going Arcane, because it dumped the maximum amount of total spellcasting stats, of which builds typically only used one at a time. Even if you respecced to a full Faith caster for instance, you'd still get 4 extra usable stats (9 Int, 7 Arcane). I wager that Condemned will be the ideal choice this time, because Umbral casters use both Inferno and Radiant, making it so you can't just dump them both (otherwise Partisan would probably be the ideal starter class due to its even distribution and 8/8 Radiant and Inferno stats).
Great overview. Given the generous evade distances for even medium armor, I'm wondering if building a full heavy armor set is more worthwhile in this game. I'm tempted to go full heavy armor paladin anyway. Considering all the areas like Pilgrim's Perch where it can be easy to fall off, it might be worthwhile to limit one's movement speed and range. Is there a stamina recovery penalty for the heavier weight threshold?
dont pick condemned unless u want to suffer and make the game harder for urself, plenty souls games have a condemned class, its for those who want a bigger challenge and struggle of the game.
@@lucylucian2564Not exactly true. Picking a level 1 class in a souls game only means that the starting area will be more difficult. After you farm the first 10 levels then it evens out in difficulty and you can do that pretty fast. The real challenge with these classes is to not level up at all.
I want to go for a heavy armored paladin, would Preacher or Knight be better suited? I still can't find information about skill or skilltrees, IE if Knight will be able to use Radiance skills. If they can, I'm not sure what the Preacher would be better for compared to the Knight, since Knight seems more "defense" focused.
@@nanox4825in this case I personally would go for the Knight you start with a nice armor and weapon and 1 point in radiance already + you can find the catalyst and spells later ingame anyway
@@nanox4825 Knight, preacher and dark crusader are exactly the same if you wanna go for paladin build. The difference is the way the stats are spread at the beginning. Knight and crusader start better as a melee, heavy paladin and preacher as a caster lighter geared paladin. In the end they can all wear the same armor though, use same skills, weapons etc. and you will be able to reallocate points at a certain point of the game. Starting class only matters for the starting area, when you max them out, Knight, crusader and preacher will look exactly the same in terms of equipment and stat spread. So simply ask yourself if you want to start with a melee or caster focused paladin for the first part of the game. Also keep in mind that in souls games when you re-spec , it only means that you get all your stat points back in order to put them somewhere else. So if you start as Preacher and you re-spec, you will be left the same stat spread Preacher class had at the start before you put the rest of the points back in. So if you want to use an inferno build for example, pick a class that starts with points in inferno and not Radiance because the extra added points in radiance at the start would not be able to be relocated and go to waste. Only points you can relocate are the points you add with each level after you start. The lowest a stat can go is 8. So a starting class with 8 in a certain stat means that stat has no additional points in it at the beginning of the game. Also there are no skill trees. How your class is gonna play comes down to gear, spells and stats and all classes will have access to the same gear and spells eventually.
this is the year of the RPG and a great year for soulslike if your a From Software die hard, theres a new game out if you want a twist on the formula, theres remnant 2 if you want bloodbourne, theres lies of P if you want darksouls, there's lords of the fallen and rarest thing about this is that they're all bangers.
Mournstead Infantry here. The shield is a joke, even with starting enemies, but the fun and satisfying attack this character has is it's running jump attack with the spear. Run and do a light attack, and you get a MMA style Superman Punch, but with a spear. Heavy attack the same run-move and you do an overhead impalement, slamming and pinning the enemy to the ground.
How hard is getting currency at the beginning of the game? Assuming you want to make umbral magic and pick someone like the dark crusader, but you want to level radiance and inferno to 18 like the starting mage classes, would it be hard to get them to that point by grinding out beginning stuff? Love the dope armor of the dark crusader, but that's 17 levels of work (7 into radiance and 10 into inferno for 18/18 split). Or is it better at the beginning to stick to radiance and just swap to umbral later down the road once the umbral class is unlocked?
Conflicted. Knights always start with a cool-looking armor, but one of my moto is "always bring a ranged weapon". I think I'll go for knight though and hope to find a crossbow quick. The infantry looks nice too. The dark crusader's sword looks DOPE... I want it!
@@zaddyzeeseburgnutz I think the problem with grenade is that it does not scale. Crossbow scales with strength, which makes it better over time. Im in the same boat as benjamin. I love the Hollowed Knight but it seems ranged weapons are hella good in this game. Ill assume we'll get a crossbow "semi fast" anyway and the grenade will work until then. Partisan has the juicy benefit of Crossbow & Flail which are my favourite weapon types after spear & sword. Its a shame spears are agility weapons in soulsgames.

So far , (other than Dark crusader deluxe.) Spear infantry & preacher so far to me. But all across classes look great. That's a lot of characters and experiments to play with.
When you look at the description for the deluxe edition it lists Dark Crusader in two seperate ways. One where it talks about starting class and another where it talks about his armour and weapons. So does this mean you'll get access to his armour and weapon regardless of starter choice or did they just decide when doing the description for the deluxe they'd seperate it into two sections? If it's access to his armour and weapon I'd probably buy it cause I like the look but if not then I doubt I will because I'll be going warwolf so seems pointless.
That’s a good question cause I’d like to utilize the radiance scaling sword of the dark Crusader with the Orian Preacher starting class since I want the magic of the preacher but don’t really like the hammer it starts with especially since it doesn’t even scale with radiance yet the dark Crusader starting sword does scale with radiance but regardless your question is very valid and i too would like an answer

Just started playing and I went pyro but now i feel the need to restart because the mangler axes recommended in other videos now scale with strength and not pyro and require 13 strength.
Only reason why i didn't get the deluxe edition is because otherwise i'd feel forced to start out with dark crusader, i prefer unlocking it normally for ng+
Thanks. Regarding consumables. I'm not seeing any amount indicators in the HUD when one has equipped and using consumables be it throwables or regen items. How does one tell how much is being used and how much remaining then while in use?
You'll notice under health, stamina, etc there is a small row of tick marks for the throwables indicating your available ammo. I did see a different vid that detailed how each throwable consumes a different amount of the ticks. If I remember correctly, and you can see it in this vid if you watch again, the crossbow consumes 2 ticks while the bow only 1. Some are 3, and the magic casters use a mana bar instead.

I'm thinking of going quality build is there any good weapons that scale good with quality with at least B scaling for both strength and agility? either early, mid or late game?

Stupid question, can we change magic type during the game? Like from Radiant to inferno? Would we need a catalyst change to do that? Really looking forward to this game.
Since it is "souls like" and each caster class has a specific casting item you will likely need a different catalyst since each scales off a different stat. I would imagine you would be able to acquire each of them somewhat early in order to customize any class and then it should just be a matter of distributing stats and spell slots (however that works in this game) to your liking.
U dont need defense when u can dolphine dive across the world faster than sonic lol. Melee and holy is prolly the best. Throw in fire later and ur unstoppable. So id recommend hollow knight, preacher, or warlord to start id say. Any of those three will make it easy for u. Rouges and agility builds kinda muff since everyone is fast and can effectively dodge really well despite armor. As long as u arnt getting one or two tapped u will be more than fine with the game as is.
In coop, what can the host obtain compared to the guest. Is the guest limited at all to getting gear? I know their own personal story line doesn't progress but just looking for clarification on what else the guest cannot loot or obtain. Thanks
The guest is EXTREMELY limited and it sucks. We brought this up with the devs and it was the one thing they really weren't receptive to changing because of technical and design reasons.
If you're not picking Condemned or Partisan you're probably shooting yourself in the foot long term. I'll explain. Your starting gear and level doesn't matter that much. You can eventually collect the gear of all the classes and you'll eventually catch up in levels. What matters are your starting stats, because they effect how much flexibility and how many usable stats you have during a respec. If you pick a class like the Orian Preacher or the Warwolf, you've effectively locked yourself into a single playstyle, because when you go to respec, you cannot set your Radiant or Strength attribute below 18 or 16 respectively. For the Vitality attribute this probably doesn't matter too much since every class will level it. To a lesser extent Endurance will likely be similar. But for all the offensive stats, Strength, Agility, Radiant, and Inferno, you're locking yourself into a single playstyle if you pick a class overly emphasizing them. That said, Condemned is going to be a solid choice because it gives you the maximum flexibility. However, if you know you're not interested in magic, Partisan is your best choice because it dumps the spellcasting stats and has very even stats in everything else, allowing you the maximum flexibility. However, this doesn't make Partisan outright the best choice just because it dumps spellcasting stats (like Vanguard in ER), because Umbral casters use both Radiant and Inferno here in LOTF.
Great post and makes me consider a specialty class. Thanks for sharing your expertise. I wasn't even interested in the game until seeing this video (watched lots of previews, but seeing all the variety and break downs of starting classes made me more interested.
I just checked for you. I have 4 flails currently unlocked (there are definitely more). Most scale off either STR or AGI but there is also some scaling off Inferno on one of the flails I have. I imagine there's one that also scales off Radiance

Classes are simply just starting gear and stats. You can build any character in any direction you want.

What's the for lack of better word "lightsaber" you're using ? How far into the game can you get it ?
It's actually a boss reward from the first boss. Pretty easy to get, and fits perfect into my radiant build!

You can definitely go full ranged. You can pick up or maybe farm items to replenish your ammunition resource if you run out.

Since it is "souls like" and each caster class has a specific casting item you will likely need a different catalyst since each scales off a different stat. I would imagine you would be able to acquire each of them somewhat early in order to customize any class and then it should just be a matter of distributing stats and spell slots (however that works in this game) to your liking.

U dont need defense when u can dolphine dive across the world faster than sonic lol. Melee and holy is prolly the best. Throw in fire later and ur unstoppable. So id recommend hollow knight, preacher, or warlord to start id say. Any of those three will make it easy for u. Rouges and agility builds kinda muff since everyone is fast and can effectively dodge really well despite armor. As long as u arnt getting one or two tapped u will be more than fine with the game as is.
Re: Exiled Stalker... I wouldn't exactly call those "rapid flurry of attacks". Those daggers are pretty damn slow.

This will be the first soulslike I start out as the condemned. I really don't know why but it's just calling me.
I choose naked every time so I can focus my leveling towards exactly what I want.
I have the deluxe version but I'll go for blackfeather ranger or condemned anyway.
In coop, what can the host obtain compared to the guest. Is the guest limited at all to getting gear? I know their own personal story line doesn't progress but just looking for clarification on what else the guest cannot loot or obtain. Thanks
The guest is EXTREMELY limited and it sucks. We brought this up with the devs and it was the one thing they really weren't receptive to changing because of technical and design reasons.

If you're not picking Condemned or Partisan you're probably shooting yourself in the foot long term. I'll explain.
Your starting gear and level doesn't matter that much. You can eventually collect the gear of all the classes and you'll eventually catch up in levels. What matters are your starting stats, because they effect how much flexibility and how many usable stats you have during a respec.
If you pick a class like the Orian Preacher or the Warwolf, you've effectively locked yourself into a single playstyle, because when you go to respec, you cannot set your Radiant or Strength attribute below 18 or 16 respectively. For the Vitality attribute this probably doesn't matter too much since every class will level it. To a lesser extent Endurance will likely be similar. But for all the offensive stats, Strength, Agility, Radiant, and Inferno, you're locking yourself into a single playstyle if you pick a class overly emphasizing them.
That said, Condemned is going to be a solid choice because it gives you the maximum flexibility. However, if you know you're not interested in magic, Partisan is your best choice because it dumps the spellcasting stats and has very even stats in everything else, allowing you the maximum flexibility. However, this doesn't make Partisan outright the best choice just because it dumps spellcasting stats (like Vanguard in ER), because Umbral casters use both Radiant and Inferno here in LOTF.
u have to be an idiot to start as condemned, ur gonna be stuck early game to hours on end, because ur stats are shit and ur weapons also.
Great post and makes me consider a specialty class. Thanks for sharing your expertise. I wasn't even interested in the game until seeing this video (watched lots of previews, but seeing all the variety and break downs of starting classes made me more interested.
they need a straight up pvp mode somewhere in the future 2v2s or 1v1 s like arena mode that would really put longevity in the game

Umbral magic requires leveling both Radiance and Inferno and you can get the catalyst for it relatively early.

I just checked for you. I have 4 flails currently unlocked (there are definitely more). Most scale off either STR or AGI but there is also some scaling off Inferno on one of the flails I have. I imagine there's one that also scales off Radiance
