great info on millings and concrete. Learned more about it then the other 20 or so videos I have watched on the subjects. Appreciate this kind of content.
I am reduing my gravel driveway which is like going uphill, so is always washed out when we have a serious downpour. I am struggling with the decision whether to put on my driveway a crashed concrete, recycled concrete, recycled asphalt, or asphalt millings. This a really fantastic video of no-nonsense fellow who in simple words explained a difference between all those aggregates. I think I am goinin to use asphalt millings and hope that this will hold better over many years. Thanks man for great video.
is 1/4 inch(5mm)gravel size screened millings, good enough for a small driveway? If i compact it with a roller, would it be as good as the 3/4 inch gravel size? Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
I got a quote for having millings installed for a 22x60 driveway for $3700. They said the millings are screened -2". They also said, that quote didn't come with a base layer, just 6" millings. Does that seem like a fair deal? Should there be a base under the millings for support and stability?
@@ecker34 the price seems fair, so Millings is a good base material. Especially 6 inches . After they run a vibratory roller over the top, it should compact nice.. if you really wanted to you could put a finish stone over the top or leave the milling’s for a while and sweep the loose stuff off the top after they’ve gone through a hot month . Milling’s will typically stick back together like pavement if there’s no dirt in them.
@@DirtBrute do you think the screened -2" millings is fine enough to have good compaction that will last? The property is in western NY, winters can be harsh. Also there will be a 36ft RV that will sit on this pad, just for reference. The company is trying to steer me into getting crushed concrete instead but.. I dunno. I havent really heard great things about it.
@@ecker34 I like millings . That’s what I park my trucks and equipment on and it’s been great . Anything you put down will need touch ups after winters no matter what .
Do you have a way to grind up the milling so you don’t have such big chunks? I have about 2000 yards of real chunky millings that would be great to use if I could come up with a low cost way to grind them into 1” or so.
@@superchickensexcavation2230 well my friend who owns a road paving company would screen them and use the big ones for base on new road construction the cover them with the fines. Then vide roll them . He now has a crusher and runs them through that to make smaller
one of the best TH-cam videos explaining asphalt millings! 😊

@@WBuj-db2wx clean millings are great and last a long time if put down with a compactor. Thanks for watching!

Nikos A yes just make sure you put it 6” or more thick .
@@DirtBrute so you saying that if i put the fine one, it is not recommended? whats the least thikness i should to with? What is 6" in mm?
Nikos A the finer millings will be ok just put at least 6 inches thick . 6 inches equals 152.4 Millimeters
@@nikosa7759 1 inch is 25.4mm

Should the Top Layer of the millings be finer for better compaction?
