This new investigation by Global Witness reveals the systemic corruption and illegality at the heart of government in Sarawak, Malaysia's largest state. This film, shot undercover during the investigation, reveals for the first time the instruments used by members of the ruling Taib family and its local lawyers to skirt Malaysia's laws and taxes, creaming off huge profits at the expense of indigenous people and hiding their dirty money in Singapore.

They don't have that conscience, and why would they? They've been in powers for decades, sleeping under luxurious roofs, eat good meals, wear expensive clothes...So yeah, they can pretty much sleep at night without thinking much about us peasants.

Speaks true of what I have seen with my own eyes during my 3 years in Sarawak. From the exorbitant lifestyles of the super rich and elite to the indigenous people hidden far in the rural heartlands of the Sarawakian jungle.
My time there has created a bond which I cherish even more than the state I was born in. The people are friendly, the culture diverse and most important, their minds are free of the prejudice often seen among the people in the Peninsular.

That Malay subtitles are added, and other means of displaying this evidence to the rural voters are explored - so that everyone has a chance to evaluate and understand the truth about what's happening in Sarawak

I agree with you. Besides, I'm a part of indigenous tribe of Sarawak so I KNOW these things have been brewing on for years without any action taken by the authorities (how can they, when even the police is corrupted). Lots of NCR land has been taken from my father's family side in Sibu by the cronies of Taib (KTS, for example). A few months ago, my cousin was arrested for defending his land from being trespassed by them (yeah, the police were bribed to do so)

Thanks for the response. I agree that nobody is perfect, including Global Witness.But wouldn't you agree that it is not easy to get clear data in the context of Sarawak politics and business? (It might be even more difficult for Sarawakians themselves because of the pressures they are under and the tight control of information there.) Does that mean they should just give up? I bet they would welcome any meeting with the PM, the CM or the MACC. But will they agree to meet them?

I cannot blame "them" for operating within the parameters given by a global capalist market. People need to realize that this is a natural consequence of such a monetary system, and seek to change the system. The state does not exist to prevent such behavior, but to enable it.

Someone should get this video translated/subtitled into Malay, Chinese, Tamil, Dayak and all the Sarwak indigenous languages so that it can be viewed more widely.
Guys, I highly suggest you Google "sarawak illegal logging google maps" and read the first result: "Google Earth reveals stark contrast between Sarawak's damaged...".
When I used Google Maps to double-check I couldn't believe my eyes, there were SO MANY logging access roads I thought they were natural terrain features. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that 70% of the state has been logged. Please thumbs up/share this info so everyone can see, thanks.
