That Yeenoghu Barlgura looks like a great mini to be used as a Gnoll boss. Maybe the gnolls got a blessing from yeenoghu which turned their chief into a barlgura or maybe its just a gnoll that became overside due to magic or other things

Yet another fantastic review. This set looks great I could easily use these in my home brew. My favourites being all the Yeenoghu variant demons because what's better then a Gnoll a Demon Gnoll.
2:54 - Interesting that 5E removed the one really memorable ability of Babaus, their caustic slime that causes weapons hitting them to corrode. Yet the mini still has this red slime displayed on the arms - probably because Volo's Guide reused the 4E artwork for Babaus and the mini was based on it. ;)
Interesting. Yeah, it still has a lot of defensive options - weakening creatures, heating up their weapons and causing them to drop them, inducing fear, dispelling magic, surrounding themselves in darkness, etc. But nothing about that slime you see dripping off of them. -Theo
After a year of research, I got all of the Archdevils sets, and finally ordered 2 bricks of Descent To Avernus. 25 years later After Planescape and I finally get to enjoy the Abyss and The Nine Hells with Minis. Oh yeah, currently in possession is Orcus, Garg. Tiamat, and GF9 Demogorgon. I hope to enjoy playing The Blood War for another 25 years and then pass these on to an heir who deserves them. Now we need a model for The Lady Of Pain.
Oooh you are gonna get a website? Bookmarked! Looking forward to it. Also, congrats on the 1000th subscriber! This set is gonna be a favourite of mine, it has all the things I like in D&D - Devils, Demons, Yugoloths, (demonic) Gnolls, and a nice modular mounted mini and an Archdevil to top it off! Also great to get lower rarity versions of the Erinyes and Barbazu. Though rarity still makes little sense, like why the Ice and Horned Devils are Uncommons alongside the high CR Glabrezu, when the Bone Devil is a Rare... One of the things I hope Wizkids explains in Kor's upcoming Q/A on Minisgallery. Will be a while before I get the set as the czech shop I preordered only delivers next february (!) but I saved 130 EUR this way compared to other sources. I will likely actually keep multiples this time and do a Blood War battlefield display, these models are so great. The story is not out yet, but a few details were leaked or shared by WotC on the NPCs. Mad Maggie is a Night Hag who runs a diabolical chop shop basically, she can supply the PCs with the Infernal War Machines (and one artwork shows her driving the one the set has as a mini). Mickey is her Flesh Golem - I assume the adventure will have new rules similar for the 3E Demonflesh Golems for him. Mahadi is your friendly Rakshasa trader in Avernus who deals with all sides - and likely you only source for gear in Baator. Reya Mantlemorn is an ex-member of the Hellriders (or some similar name) who were group of paladins and knights working with Zariel when she was an Angel to lead attacks on the Blood War. Haruman and Olanthius were also members, but they chose to follow her in Hell and I think it is implied they became devil-infused Death Knights based on some art I saw - we will know more when the adventure is released. And yeah, curious what part Yeenoghu takes in this story. I love the idea that he turns Gnolls into Demons -goes well with the Gnoll philosophy of "The stronger the better", which led them to abandon their god Gorellik for Yeenoghu.
Haha, yes! The website is in the planning stages. I'm afraid our ambition is running ahead of us. We have a lot we want to do, but with us both having full time jobs, we're rather limited on how much time we can devote to the Gallant Goblin. We hope to streamline some of our processes to enable us to do more in the future. And thank you! We're closing in on 2000 now thanks to the contest and some selective advertising! Hopefully they are folks who will enjoy our content in addition to possible prizes. Yes, it's a great set! I do need to set aside a chunk of time in each review to really discuss the rarity choices. I'll make that part of my basic template, because there are always definitely a few odd choices in that area. Whew, yeah, that's a little bit of a wait. It's always tricky buying things like this overseas. I lived in Japan for awhile, so I feel your pain. At least it gives you time to plan out a demon/devil campaign! Oh interesting. Yeah, you have some more lore there than I was able to find. Maybe you can share your sources with me for next time! :-) We are supposedly on the list to receive early booster bricks for future sets, so it'll be nice to have a little background lore to connect to the minis, as I like to do. Apparently there are some leaks out there about Yeenoghu's role in the adventure. It sounds unique to say the least! -Theo
@@TheGallantGoblin Good luck with the site! I know from experience how challenging designing one is... Yeah I usually am more impatient than that, but well, I just preordered some Transformers last week that also take until 2020 Feb to arrive, so... I reasoned if I can wait for that, why not this. And at least by then the secondary market prices will have settled. They often "wobble" around a lot. Mahadi was 10$ for a while on Miniaturemarket but is now less, others are more. I post most of what I learn on Minisgallery, you can follow the topics there! Also, ridiculous as it sounds, my best source was D&D beyond because some employee there kept uploading whole maps, artwork and sidebar text from the adventure - it was hidden on the site itself but they came up tagged on Google image search. :D So I knew about a lot of the locations and NPCs already weeks in advance.
Thanks! Yeah, it's interesting to see what minis end up becoming more or less popular and expensive as time goes by. Nice, I do try to go through the threads on Minisgallery when working on scripts, but I'm sure I miss some threads or messages there from time to time. Now, that google image trick... let's keep that between the two of us! ;-) -Theo
I wish we had taken more footage now. Yeah, the red caps were amazing, there was a medusa, Reya, Fisk, various devils, etc. Mahadi was there too, but they didn't really cat-ify him. Of course, we didn't have any context for all these people at the time really. I didn't realize they would all necessarily be NPCs from the actual adventure. We'll know better next year. -Theo
I appreciate the video. Super informative, as always. If I could use the wish spell, I'd wish for the module and minis to be released together, so we could have more context for some of the minis.
Yeah, this was a bit of an unusual situation. Do come back later and check the description of the video for any important updates and corrections. Thanks! -Theo
Did the Narzugon and Nightmare come together or were they in separate boxes? I noticed with this set, that every brick seems to guarantee one large rare, and 2 medium rares.
The Narzugon and Nightmare come together but take up 2 slots in the box. The "Large" for the box is all the pieces for the Narzugon riding the Nightmare and the Nightmare itself while one of the other minis in the box will be the Narzugon's legs on a medium-sized base. Your observation about 1 large and 2 medium rares is interesting and I think you're onto something. Looking at our data and the data provided at www.minisgallery.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=30&start=30 it seems there are always 4 large/huge rares and 1 in each brick. -Grady
@@TheGallantGoblin Me too! None of the Eberron Rakshasa have that correctly, so I am glad Icons got that part right. (I think the PFB Rakshasa also has correctly backwards hands, but I need to check).
@@TheGallantGoblin I do hope the "non-Legion" and "non-Yeenoghu-ized" versions of some of these fiends will get made later too, but I am really happy with these versions as well. I don't think there's a lore reason given, though I may have missed something in the Avernus book. Most of the minis in this set are based on concept art Max Dunbar drew, and you can see his art of the imp at twitter.com/max_dunbar/status/1171220440582246400 A lot of the devils had their Monster Manual versions turned into minis already in other Icons of the Realms sets, so I guess they wanted to make these stand out by giving them armor or weapons to reflect the state of the Blood War in Avernus. -Grady
Well you make Excellent videos You show Them as theire actually painted, you talk about their practical use. Maybe grade the sets 1-10 on different scales, like overall paint jobs, how much they fit a theme. How good they are to fill up your stock of miniatures. Whether most of the Minis in a set only works in specific stuff or are as stable as orks and goblins.
Yes, some minis tend to come a bit bent. It's not that unusual for these sets. These can be corrected by running or soaking them in hot water from the tap for about 30-40 seconds, bending them back carefully, and then running them under cold water to re-set. -Grady
@@TheGallantGoblin oh yeah I knew that Haha. I wasn't aware if YOU knew that yours was messed up. (I thought maybe you assumed he was leaning forward for a dynamic pose). My brick came with two of him, and I haven't seen a bent Barnabas yet. Sorry for the confusion you guys are great
Yeah thanks for the heads up! I’m not sure if we had one that was less bent. We usually try to pick the best one or unbend them but I was in a rush to get the video finished this time so it’s possible I just messed up. -Grady
The spearhead is shaped slightly different (21b is serrated). Apologies-between the angle and the art popping up it’s basically impossible to see in the video. -Grady
Be aware that to complete the set in 32 boxes you have to buy a sealed case (I think we show what it looks like in our Dragon Heist review). Buying a random selection of boxes or bricks are likely to result in duplicates that prevent you from completing the set. The cheapest we've seen it online is around $370 for just the case or $420 if you throw in the infernal war machine too. Local game stores will not likely be able to match those prices due to margins, though some might if you are a repeat customer. Our old game store eventually did match those prices (of their own volition, we didn't press to lower prices). Now that we've moved, we're currently paying $470. -Grady
@@TheGallantGoblin Thanks for the reply. I wasn't aware that a sealed case was a thing. I was hoping there was an option to buy the "set". I wish it was a little more cost effective, but it is what it is. Good info! Much appreciated.
Yeah there is no way to buy the set outright though some may offer it on eBay after having opened a bunch of boxes themselves. You could also buy singles from the aftermarket to fill out the set, though in our experience it's almost as expensive as buying a full case (and you end up with fewer minis, just ~50 vs. 128). We had to buy all singles for Elemental Evil and that ended up costing us well over $400, with most of the expense from the 12 rares and shipping due to having to track individual ones down from whatever retailer had it. We've also bought just a brick of Monster Menagerie III and bought the missing singles off the aftermarket and that cost us a similar amount. It obviously varies depending on how popular or not popular various minis are. Dragons and aberrations tend to be super expensive so sets heavy on those will be more expensive on the aftermarket. -Grady
Sad that it's only a US giveaway, but it's understandable. Anyways, the set looks awesome! My players will soon go to hell hunting a powerful devil so I need to order a bunch
Icons are nice, but they need to release packs of just like creatures. You know, like a pack of 5-10 goblins.. every type you might find in a goblin community, orc, sahuagin etc...
They’re releasing a Village Raiders nonrandom pack of 7 minis this October-3 goblins, 2 orcs, 2 gnolls. I imagine if it does well they’ll do more! www.minisgallery.com/dnd/dnd24.htm -Grady
@@TheGallantGoblin yes!!definitely need more like that. I know they want to make money, but the price point for a pack of randoms to try and collect enough for a group (ugh, nvm an army) is high enough people just throw in anything they can find as placement tokens instead. It works, but it is costing them a potential market share. Heck, I had a lord of the rings Risk game that I break into for the "armies" of orcs...
I would definitely recommend looking at the aftermarket for singles too if you’re looking to make an army of a certain creature. Most of the common and uncommon rarity sculpts, especially for standard monsters, can be much cheaper than getting the minis from a box. -Grady
Theo here. Another option is the unpainted minis from the Nolzur's Marvelous Minis line. You can get a pack of 3 different goblin sculpts, for instance, for about $5. Just gotta paint them up yourself.
I understand completely. Before starting this channel I used to grab little alien minis out of my "Invasion From Outer Space" game from Flying Frog to use as goblins. Luckily they seem to be experimenting with different distribution models these days, so hopefully they'll offer something that helps us all get our hands on exactly the minis we need. -Theo
Id prefer a review on the quality of each mini, not the story. What was done well? What sucks? How does it compair to others minis of that type? Close ups so we can see details.
Hey! Thanks for the feedback. We are planning to do a series of videos in the future where we compare all the various minis of a particular type, such as all the dragons, all the mind flayers, and all the orcs. Perhaps those videos will be more to your tastes as you can really compare and contrast minis of the same type. -Theo
That firbolgs face was horrible... And the flame skull was just a flame with a half ass smiley face, wtf?!? It should have been a skull not just dots and a line mouth....
Funny how TSR/WOTC makes a big deal out of the lame ass Blood War & the separation of devils and demons then keeps producing adventures featuring both. Why not just put them in the same lower planes?
This is what I was waiting for before buying anything from the set! Without me realising it you've become indispensable

Maybe grade the sets 1-10 on different scales, like overall paint jobs, how much they fit a theme.
How good they are to fill up your stock of miniatures.
Whether most of the Minis in a set only works in specific stuff or are as stable as orks and goblins.
Your barnabas the flame skull looked very bent
-Grady
Help me! What are the differences between 21a and 21b????
The spearhead is shaped slightly different (21b is serrated). Apologies-between the angle and the art popping up it’s basically impossible to see in the video. -Grady
@@TheGallantGoblin I pulled 21a and hadn't bought minis since the first 2 or 3 sets! Thanks!!! I guess they don't come with stat cards now, eh?
@@dragonwiz87 Nope, no more little stat cards. But 99% of the minis have stat blocks in 5e. Good luck! -Theo
compared to the 3.5 mini's, these are HOT.
Really like the Zariel mini, though i'd love it more if she had red wings instead of green....
Ah, true! It is a different take on Zariel. Still a lovely figure though. -Theo
Great review! All the detail that a super keen mini player wants to know about from another fellow plasti-crack addict :P
Thank you! Glad to hear we're providing useful information! -Grady
How many of these random boxes did you open to complete the set?
I see, nice roll up at the end. So about 365 bucks for the set.
If you are in Canada we were able to open it up there except Quebec (legal restrictions). -Grady
I'm confused. The Merregons are identical?
The axe heads on their weapons are different designs but everything else is the same.
-Theo
Well done
Thanks! -Theo
GREEN FLAME!!!!!!!
GREAT VIDEO!!!
Thank you! -Theo
Somebody needs to tell that Rakshasa that their hands are on upside down and backwards.
You look like that dude from Hercules with Kevin sorbo
Thank you? That's possibly very kind of you! ;-) -Theo
Robert Trebor? hahaha www.imdb.com/name/nm0871636/
Green flame!
Just found this page. #blessed
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
I think the firbolg just went a little heavy on the eyeliner. :-) -Theo
These are some ugly minis for the most part lol. great video though.
Haha, thank you for watching! -Theo
horrible minis you would presume that by now the quality would get better and better but the 3d printed minis look way better
Deck of many was a big waste of money!
These look horrible. Are all 5e miniatures like these?
Each set is rather different. Which minis do you like? -Theo
painting is atrocious
Funny how TSR/WOTC makes a big deal out of the lame ass Blood War & the separation of devils and demons then keeps producing adventures featuring both. Why not just put them in the same lower planes?
