When there was no work in my city or if costs got too high I looked at other locations that had work and a cost of living I could manage. I guess it's debatable as to whether he manages that himself but he isn't a scientist, or a politician, or the like, so he works with what he's got as an ex-Soviet immigrant, and as a comedian: using his oratory skills to paint a positive vision of westen values, in contrast with where he came from.

This is the only point I disagree with. Young people will mature, partner up, start families and they will want/need a roof over their heads and food on the table. The forces at work in the world that impact that are not alwasy within anyone's control. In my early years of adulthood we all went through several major economic bumps, and continue to. When there was no work in my city or if costs got too high I looked at other locations that had work and a cost of living I could manage.
Sometimes that meant relocating to small towns in rural areas.
We should not be training our young people to expect gov'ts or other agencies to solve problems of basic needs, they should go where there is opportunity to work/earn and have a life.
