    I have a small wig studio and I have had several run ins with Belle Tress being unscrupulous and unprofessional. Several wigs with flaws, a missing piece from my order and they wouldn't ship another one unless I paid again, and most recently having the glue on the monofilament top failed and separated. I am seeing the lace front fray as it doesn't look like it was cut correctly. I feel frustrated as I have loved the fibers, styles and colors but is it worth it? Ugh... 🥴

      Thank you for your input. As a retailer, you are in a special position to observe how Belle Tress regards their customers. I used to be a diehard Belle Tress fan, but what makes Ms. Min believe that if she dismisses customers' legitimate concerns and forces them to keep wigs they cannot wear for lack of decent construction that she will save money? She will simply lose a chunk of her customer base and lose far more. It comes at a time when I was all set to make purchases from the new City Collection, have been looking forward to that release for months, but I guess I will just cruise on by. Your comment is much appreciated! ~Cynthia

    Are they serious? You’ve owned this wig before. Are they saying that this wig was normal and the previous wig was abnormal??? Sounds like they’re pushing the luxe. I wonder if the person who replied with this answer even wears wigs. This is so wrong. I’m glad you made this video to warn others.

    Thank you so much for your transparency. Sometimes the wig industry kind of bullies us customers and it is very frustrating. You are not alone.
    You mentioned you hadn't had many defective wigs in the past. I would agree I didn't see many defects for years. But lately I've seen a high % of defects. I've purchased 7 wigs in the past 4 months and 3 of them were defective. What is going on??
    **BT Hand Tied Belissima had a bald patch just under the crown. Retailer charged ME $50 to return it to them despite BT taking it back as defective. I've had other issues with this specific retailer.
    **RoP Kai - some hairs were sewn into the wefts across the mid shaft of the fiber instead of being attached at the root, leaving the rooted end of the fiber sticking out of the cap. This was all over the wig. Retailer is different from the one above and they are working to help me.
    **JR Victoria - most of the fibers in the lace front were pulled too hard when they were tied in, making them very kinky looking where they come out of the lace. I did some work on the wig by hand to improve its appearance because it was from a retailer that doesn't accept returns. But overall I'm hot happy with this hand tied piece and I feel ripped off.
    These day's I refuse to buy from retailers that don't accept returns anymore because the risk of a defective piece is way too high.

      @frontporchwigchat6260  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It is UNCONSCIONABLE for a retailer to charge you to return a verified defect. My retailer for the defective Belle Tress sent me a paid return label, which goes a long way toward customer satisfaction and loyalty. Normally, she does not accept returns but will work with customers on a case by case basis. That is a *lot* of defective wigs, Michelle! I do feel that they bully customers...what the heck makes them think that saddling customers with a defective product is going to make them more $$?? That will lose them a lot of formally loyal customers .

    You nailed it with the term “gaslighting.” The same thing happened to me on my very first wig purchase. It had an unfinished track with an unraveling end sticking out of the hairline like a big brown caterpillar right on my forehead. And the retailer tried to gaslight me telling me that was normal… and that it was now discontinued so I couldn’t get a replacement. They refused to allow me to return it as a defect and made me pay to return it due to my personal preference. I will never shop that retailer again.
    There is a lack of integrity in the world. The wig sister community is so full of compassion that it’s shocking when you are faced with the wig manufacturer being just a business that’s all about money.

    I had the same thing to happen to me with a Dolce 23. I ordered one in MWC. I always pull the top back to keep it out of my face while i work. When i got the Dolce and pulled it back there was an obvious defect. Julie Minn called it a hard stop and it wasnt defective. She told me through the retailer that if I didnt want that to show there was the hand tied version that I didn't need to show the world i had a wig on.. inwas so taken aback because i was being told i couldn't just pull the top back with a clip... the only way around it was leaving it hanging in my face or buy HAND TIED. Fortunately for me, the retailer i bought from agreed with and replaced the wig. The defective was in fact so obvious, my husband, without being prompted asked me what was on the side of my head. Now the irony is that "hard stop" was only on one side... if that were just how the wig was made, why would it not be symmetrical? It made no sense to me. Again i was fortunate enough to have a reatiler agree with me and the wig was replaced..... with a hand tied ... unfortunately i drank the kool aid. The only good part was my retailer helped me out with the price and probably didnt make a dime. But as i listened to your video yesterday, it was almost verbatim to what I was told about my Dolce. VERBATIM!!!

Maybe for a $50 Amazon wig from China, it's fine, but this is Belle Tress, dang it. Yes, Shirley is a good egg and she's sent me a gift card for the cost of this wig and is taking it back herself. Omg Cynthia, I am so sorry. I feel for you. By now we could write a book on the many, many problems with wigs. It's like all these years later experience and technology have made no difference with these manufacturers. They have us by the short hairs so to speak and they know it. I had a major defect with one wig and it was absolute hell to finally get the manufacturer to admit it was indeed a defect. That was an Envy wig. You have a good retailer there. Many will not go to bat for you. And I really have a problem with retailers making their customers think anything wrong with a brand new wig is the customers fault. They should be fighting for us all. One retailer comes straight to mind. They try saying a wig should be expected to come 20% different than they show, lol. Like, wear a headband, that will fix everything. This is made up crap, totally made up. It really is a sin and there needs to be recourse for us customers.

Even if you could glue it down, the wig itself would constantly remind you of how Belle Tress treated you as if you're an idiot...clearly you're not. Your retailer sounds like a gem, it's also smart business. If they don't protect their customers against defective products, it would eventually hurt their bottom line (I hope this hurts Belle Tress' bottom line). I’ll add my own thoughts. I did wig reviews on a “Miss Machiatto” and several other BT wigs that came with one side obviously longer than the other or other defects. For the price we pay, we should NEVER have to try to fix quality control issues on our own. Utterly disgusting and appalling that manufacturers have the nerve to come after us! I haven’t purchased one of their wigs in well over a year now. They will never get another dime from me.

      Absolutely agree! Adding that my only issue is that I have rejected so many brands for different reasons...Raquel Welch has sucky fibers, Gabor is stuck in the 70's, Rene of Paris/Noriko just have nothing I want. Ellen Wille's styles are fine and the caps fit nicely, but their colors are super limited. Estetica's caps are quite large on me and they have zero ashy blondes, etc. I still have Jon Renau, of course, but they rarely come out with a new style I like and they changed fibers that don't take color like the former ones and colors you knew no longer look the same. I wanted a hand tied Caliente, but I'm very leery of that now.

After all, it's not that mistakes were made but how someone handles it when it's discovered. Kudos to Shirley's Wig Shoppe for making it right for me though the manufacturer refused and tried to gaslight me. Shirley does not accept returns, generally, but true defects are always an exception. And it's a shame that Belle Tress is being this way since their cap size has improved, overall, in the last couple of years and they have such beautiful colors and long-lasting fibers compared to Raquel Welch's heat defiant fibers.

      @@frontporchwigchat6260 I wouldn't want to deal with a retailer that doesn't accept legitimate returns, even wrong color, style. That seems would be a downside to a smaller business. They themselves are supposed to be inspecting their inventory, so I think the retailer is somewhat @:fault and trying to pass off a defective wig to those that will just keep or resell it and the fact it's being discontinued may be the clue.
      That's why I'm suspicious of all the clearance final sales, where they swear up and down they've been inspected with a fine tooth comb, and then you read reviews to the contrary. Glad you posted this video on the lack of quality control with Belle Tress. I am a wig newbie and just purchased two Bell Tress wigs, Peppermint and Ground Theory. I noticed both are shedding a lot more than what I've seen from other brands I own. The shedding isn't falling out in handfuls, but noticeably more than other brands. I am going to think twice before I purchase another wig from Belle Tress. I disappointed since I really love the fiber and natural looking colors Bell Tress has in their wigs. I suspect you may be right about them throwing resources at the higher priced wigs. Most women in this country simply cannot afford those. I can, but I am very thrifty and I will not buy those at a piddly 30-40% off. To me, that is the normal price, not a sale. I search bargains in clearance and on Ebay, though I do see there are not nearly the bargains on Ebay I used to find. Shedding in new wigs is normal, however my first defective wig, an Envy Dakota, had it coming out by the handful and exposed cap on top so there are definitely unacceptable degrees of shedding. They don’t last either. Two or three washings and it’s a frizzy mess on the ends. I purchased a very expensive human hair wig that was balding on the top and wefts sewn down the sides so it can’t be pulled up. Initially she said the hair just needs to be fluffed. She eventually gave me 50% of my money back, but I won’t ever purchase again from her. I also have a JR that is exactly like yours, with the wefts showing in the front. I’ve noticed a lack in quality with Ellen Wille also. My most recent purchase was Turn and the adjuster strap came off at the nape within one week of purchase so I had to see it back on. After about three months, the entire adjusting system seemed to have stretched out so that it wouldn’t stay against my head and the stays are dangling instead of fitting against my head. Turn is my go-to wig and I’ve owned 4 of them and this is not normal. The cap is wearing out before the actual synthetic hair is!

  • @makeupmaniamama

    Julie Min is the owner/founder and creative director of Belle Tress, so she absolutely knows how each wig should look and ANYONE who has been wearing wigs for a little while can see that your wig has a manufacturers defect. It is quite obvious that that wig is not meant to show the tracks on the cap like that.
    I'm having a similar issue that I have to deal with, with the retailer I purchased my Belle Tress Peppermint from, in Canada. Instead of offering me a straight up refund or exchange for another of the same style (which I would pass on) or an exchange for another style altogether, I have to do a zoom call to address the issue. My Belle Tress Peppermint Hand Tied, in Mocha With Cream looked just fine when I took it out of the box. I put it on my head and thought Ok, I'll keep this. It was "on sale" for 25% off. The sale is a promotion this retailer does each weekend and they offer 30% off most Wednesday's as well, in Canada, which is where I live. I then, using my wide tooth comb, broke up the zigzag part by running the comb straight back, through it, like I have done to all 13 other of my Belle Tress styles. It was then that various lengths of little fibers, 1-2.-3 inches, started sticking up all over the top and straight out on the lace front of this wig. I immediately thought to myself that there was something wrong with this peice It looks absolutely ridiculous and very obviously like there was some kind of manufacturer defect, maybe they tied the knots wrong, since it is a hand tied wig. I took this wig off right after I saw the issues this wig had and placed it back in the hair net and packaging and back in to the box it came in.
    I took to TH-cam and watched several reviews of this style, Peppermint and not one reviewer mentions this issue and not one of the wigs in these reviews showed this same issue, even slightly. All the Peppermint wigs looked fabulous and it then that I posted my issue on Chiquel's Neighborhood, a Facebook wig group I belong to. I posted pictures of my wig, along with the run down on what it looked like up close and what the pictures just could not show due to lighting and camera angles. I heard back from someone in Australia (I am in Canada) who received her Peppermint at approx. the same time as I did, about 3 weeks after ordering and hers had the same issues, just not quite as bad as mine. It was the same color as mine, Mocha With Cream. She was offered a refund right away, from the same retailer as the one I bought mine from. There was also another girl who had commented and that complained of the same issue, same style, same color and I am waiting for her to send pictures.
    I watch you as well as you and several others wig reviewers and I even asked one that I knew had this style if even one her TWO Peppermints had this issue, even a little bit and she assured me that they did not and most likely this was on the manufacturer, but she/they were not particularly known for admitting their faults. I wonder how many other people have had issues with their BT wigs and have been treated such as you were? I hope I don't get the same treatment on my zoom call, because even at 25% off, this wig was not cheap, especially here in Canada. Just for reference, in Canada we pay about 25%-30% more then the USA, depending on the rate of exchange. For example a Peppermint Hand Tied wig in the US, on just about any retailers website runs about $480 -$540 or so, give or take a few dollars. Here in Canada, that same wig is $684.
    EDIT/FOLLOW UP- I did have my zoom meeting and was told to send the wig back. I will get a "refund, aka gift card" to buy something else. This retailer does not give people their money back easily. I honestly think this was so easy as I had posted in their Facebook group and at least 2 other people had reached out for refunds as well. By the time I had my meeting, I believe they knew there was a problem with the style , so did the right thing. In general this retailer has been very good with customer service and returns. I cannot fault them there. I just wish they had told me to send it back without the zoom meeting.

      Anytime you buy a wig new through a retailer, it comes directly from the brand. This particular one, Shirley's Wig Shoppe, does live shows on Facebook every Wednesday and what you're buying is the wig on her head so you can see the actual piece you're getting. But if you order through her website, you're generally getting directly from the manufacturer, same as all retailers. That is what is happening with most of the discontinued styles and I suspect some were discontinued because of shoddy workmanship in that style that, for some reason, they could not or did not correct.

      Let me know what they say. I love Lemonade and Roca Margarita and this makes me wonder if the rep even understands her own business. Bet she doesn't wear wigs herself. What you describe on yours is a slight issue I have with some Belle Tress mono part/lace front wigs, the visible side seam that divides the lace from the ear tab area. I can usually hide that, but this defect is not fixable. I was pretty peeved about the response from the manufacturer's rep, though the retailer is making it right, as she usually does for folks. I know some women claim defect when there is none to be able to return a wig, but I don't return wigs unless they're defective or maybe the retailer sent the wrong color (that has happened to me twice in 5 years, so it's unusual).

    One of the best videos I've ever seen. And as a new wig wearer, I sure wish I'd had this information and confidence last June. My fifth wig was from a small independent midwest retailer. The review was from a widely popular lady and the wig looked perfect for me. I have never worn it. I have never cut the lace. The wig is a blend of light blonde colors. The wefting is almost black and would show, especially if the wind blows or one chooses to use a hairclip. I immediately contacted the seller and she personally responded saying there was nothing wrong. I felt like an idiot. But I have not passed it off to anyone else, just kept it in the silky tie pouch of shame, as a cautionary lesson that wig buying is often buying a pig in a poke, sight unseen and tough *$&@ on the buyer. I wish I could post a photo here of those wefts. Still pisses me off. I thought it was my fault for only spending $85 on a wig.

    This is the first time watching you and I appreciate this info. I suspect I'm seeing this because one of my normal reviewers had an issue with Henry Margu. I've been wearing wigs since 1997, so I have more experience than almost everyone and that piece is definitely a defect. My guess is since they are discontinuing the piece, they are putting defective pieces out hoping they can get rid of them.
    In my experience, wig manufacturers are putting out much cheaper products this past year or so. Wigs went up 1 1/2 to 2 times their previous prices this past year and the quality has diminished greatly. I currently have a Julianne by JR that has the worst feeling fibers I've had in a wig since I had a cheap ToB wig in 2006-2007. I was wearing Cameron Lite and January hand tied for these past 2 years with no problem.
    I'm becoming concerned what the future of wigs is going to be based on the past year. I'm concerned because wigs are a necessity for some women and they can't afford these issues.

    • @frontporchwigchat6260
      @frontporchwigchat6260  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much for your input, Karen. You certainly do have a lot of wig wearing experience. I should have started earlier, but I was not in a position to pay for them most of my life, and now, the prices are ridiculous for wigs that are not even hand tied. Some of the newer Jon Renau had different fibers that did not feel as nice, nor did they take color the same so we get wigs in colors we enjoy and on the new ones, the root is substantially darker or just different. I don't wear mine for fashion, I'm 67 and have been losing my hair slowly since the age of 22 so I do need wigs and I feel awful for women who simply cannot afford these prices but have hair loss. That's one reason that I sell mine at very reasonable prices when I decide to get them out of my stable. The future is murky for sure. 🫤

    FYI, last year I also had this issue with a Dalgona 16 but I bought mine on clearance. I wrote also and was told it wasn’t a defect. The retailer said Belletress doesn’t stand behind their wigs and allow this “variant”.

      Clearance is not supposed to be included in any no returns policy. If it was, they'd just unload all their defective products in clearance and continue purposefully victimizing customers. It should not even make it into the clearance because they inspect returns before they re-sell them.

      @@frontporchwigchat6260 I agree! In my case, they supposedly inspected the wig. That was the first question they asked, if there was an inspection sheet in my box. It was a very disappointing and frustrating situation, to say the least; just plain maddening.
      I’m glad you had a retailer that was willing to stand behind you and not their bottom line and not say “well, you took out the part therefore it’s non returnable.”
      I just mentioned my experience since a lot of people shop clearance/ open box items (the page said it was final sale) and if a retailer will not stand behind their customer and only go by what the manufacturer determines as a defect, you’ll be stuck like me. I just mentioned my story so others would know it’s definitely “buyer beware” out there.
