Houston we (I) had a problem. My first race of 2025 and first one since my marathon last month. Mica and I don't get to run in the same races a lot so when we do it's always fun. Tough day for me but very special to have a front row seat to her SMASHING her previous personal best. I got another Half Marathon coming up. Onward.

I really appreciate how you talk about your workouts and races that don't go well. I've had a couple of weeks of my body not feeling great and workouts not being what I want them to be and struggling to not have that negative self talk of 'oh I suck,' and hearing you talk about it openly makes a big difference of 'this is normal, this happens to everyone, it happens to the elites too, just keep showing up and it'll get better.'
I also love that even while you're struggling you're Mica's biggest fan. Marriage goals.

Sorry to hear you had a rough day. To be honest, one of my main worries for my first marathon is that with the early start and all the carb loading, I'll be spending the first half of the race on the toilet. And it's not like you can hold it up when you need to go.
If it's any consolation, I think you did look good out there whilst you were running, so I hope you'll have a better race in Mesa.
Don't think of carb loading as only the night before. Just be sure to eat plenty of carbs in the days leading up (or just everyday like I do). That way you don't put your body in major distress the night before, and possibly into the morning...

I ran the Houston marathon. Started in corral C, stood around for 30 minutes before we got to go. My feet were completely numb before I reached the start line...I'm not cut out for the cold!

I had a video that took 17 hours to record in CapCut and I didn’t know that it was going to get banned as well, so um yeah 😅 I ended up using a glitch to make it work and then editing it that way. It took and extra 4 days to edit🧑🍳

This is my first race where I’ve experienced this but for me if I warm up really good I don’t normally need to go, coffee helps clear you and don’t eat anything out of the ordinary if you can help it

The insulation thing olive oil thing doesn't sound good because even if it did work, it would make it harder for you to sweat, so you couldn't stay cool, thereby negatively affecting your performance...
