So agree about the lifestyle comment. Now I always ask myself "where am I going in this?" and many times I pass on whatever I am considering purchasing. So helpful. Agree on most everything you mentioned :)
I agree with the office core trend. Realistically, unless you are a lawyer or a banker, no one dresses head-to-toe office style anymore even if you work in the office.
Great video! I look to you for fashion sense. A lot of trends out there are nonsense. It’s also exhausting and expensive to try and keep up. I fell into a trend hole more often than I like to admit and wind up giving the items away. So I buy a bow pin or wear 3 rosette pins on a blazer. Carrying and oversized bag is awful if you are older and live in the city with no car…things get really heavy really fast. I used to wear a lot of vintage pieces but as I am vintage myself it just looks dated. I love fun modern architectural pieces like Awake-Mode and tailored pieces like The Frankie Shop. I love maxi’s and fitted knit dresses from Skims. I tend to trend up with shoes and sunnies. As I am 69 all the looks for women my age are so boring. I tend to trend younger looks but with caution. One issue I have is with shoes. I have several chunky bottom shoes that were pretty expensive and I don’t know what to do with them now. It’s like they are out they are in… so confusing… for example I have a pair of McQueen rave boots. I was going to sell or gift them but then I saw a dupe on Zara’s last week. I will give something away that I never wear and then poof it’s a trend the next minute. It’s hard to keep up. I appreciate all your suggestions. Hugs x 😎
Your point about trends not fitting our lifestyle went over my head regarding the classic suiting pieces. I get it when metallic and sequin fabrics don't fit my lifestyle, or might be an occasional tongue and cheek statement like sparkle sneakers. But I cannot imagine trousers and blazers not being appropriate for any lifestyle or activity except the beach or picnics. With all the washable fabrics out there now, there's no reason to avoid tailored pieces when doing laundry, picking up the kids or grocery shopping. Full-on gardening might be pushing it a bit far, but pruning a few stems should be ok. It's part of making every day special and not "saving" clothes only for infrequent "special" occasions. Maybe the lifestyle conflict is solved by avoiding dry-clean-only garments. Embrace the cream colored trousers and relax because you can wash them. There's no need to feel stuck in blue jeans uniforms just because your kids' hands get sticky. I would also enjoy your thoughts on not going too far with accessories. Not being too matchy-matchy and not too much metal. For example, your skirt today would have looked great with a brown leather belt with an interesting . But if you had worn a belt, would you have removed the statement earrings?
I can totally see her point about styles not fitting our lifestyle but getting caught up in them because they're trending. I bought a couple of blazers but never wear them because they look too "dressed up" for the places I go.
I think your laundry experiences must be different than mine! All my laundering isn’t magic and things do stain. I’ve always had work clothes, play clothes, church clothes and special occasion clothes. My lifestyle doesn’t call for special occasion clothes much anymore, I haven’t been to a wedding in ages, and church isn’t as dressy as it used to be in days of yore, but I for sure have good clothes. I can’t sprall on the couch in fitted clothing.
I think she meant head-to-toe office core classic pieces. Realistically, very few professions require their employee to dress like this. So yeah, this trend doesn't fit most people’s lifestyle anymore even if they work from the office.
You are spot on. Lived through the 80's don't need to do it again. The suits don't fit my lifestyle unless it's a special event. I agree we shouldn't feel the need to participate in every trend. Metallics and sequins are also reserved for special events. The only exception might be accessories.
The only one of these “trends” I’ll wear is the Classic Styling one, it’s just my personal style. Most lifestyles easily allow at least some elements of this style, how hard is it to throw on a blazer instead of a track jacket? Classic styling has always worked well for me because there are always updated, modern versions available. Nor am I obsessed with looking younger than I am, 63. I don’t buy many trends except those that I think are versatile and relatively timeless, and high-quality. Also, many “trends” are initiated and promoted by brands’ designers specifically to push cheap synthetic fabrics like polyester, which I can’t wear. This year’s sheers, lace fabrics, mesh, etc. are good examples of this. Thanks for the update, Leonie.
Top to toe metalics make me feel like I'm role of aluminium folie or astronaut in fire resistant suit, big bag big no,big shoulder pads feels like NLF player ect.ect
It makes me sad that all forms of entertainment now are so, so fearful of "offending" someone, that they spend the whole show apologizes and tap dancing around a msg. The point gets lost in all of the fluff. One thing I know for sure, there is someone who woke up this morning with a chip on their shoulder looking forward to someone accidentally or intentionally bumping into them so they can knock it off and be hacked off and angry for the rest of the day. Our current state.
Metallic head-to-toe was my fashion choice for a BIL's wedding in 2022. I received so many compliments and, considering it was stepping out of my comfort zone and being a 'neutral-palette, corporate-elegance' type of woman, I felt really comfortable and beautiful. However, on a day-to-day basis, I wouldn't wear metallic anything. For a dinner or some kind of celebration (birthday, anniversary, wedding etc.), I would re-wear it again (or combine with other materials).
I think people should wear what suits their body and lifestyle. Trends are a bit ridiculous IMO. They do inform what is available in the fashion market, but for the most part you can always find something that suits your body.
For some reason I always forget to do that. Both pieces are quite old unfortunately. The mesh top I've owned for about 10 years (truly) and the skirt is about six months old from Zara x
XL bags have been my go to for grocery shopping and shopping in general. I live in Canada and we are charged for bags and sometimes last minute errand runs might happen and XL comes in handy to save the day 😂
Many shops don’t will not put your purchase in a shop bag soooo bringing your own stylish large purse solves that problem...as they charge extra to put your purchase in a bag
The same reason I don’t like early 2000s trends. Young 20s may like it but as someone who remembers those days, they look too old, outdated and I don’t want to relive that era with low waist flare jeans and colorful skinny jeans!
I feel like the younger generation needs to learn for itself that low rise jeans are a mistake. When they look at photos of themselves in twenty years and think, “Why do my legs like six inches long?” and “Why did it look like I had love handles above my waistband when I weighed 95 lbs?” they will understand the impact of their poor choices.
@@kcbarbo78 I saw a girl wearing a mini skirt WITH low rise jeans underneath 😂 not the jeans with a dress/skirt trend! It looks terrible! I 100% agree they have to learn for themselves
That was a fun video! I’m in complete agreement with you, especially your advice about considering one’s lifestyle before buying any new pieces. I’ve been guilty of that myself and I end up donating those clothes because I never wear them.
I agree with most of your misses. I was in middle and high school for most of the eighties, so no, I will not be revisiting that trend again. The bows thing. I was questioning that trend. As a 50+ person, I felt as though it was a look that would be way too juvenile for me. The aquatic looks can miss me all together. Great video❤
Love your channel. Very good info. I work in a smart retail store it has to be black head to toe. So pants ,skirt and blazer I make my outfit different every day. . In Australia most people don’t seem to dress up at all. Still leisurewear out and about and crocks . I don’t know when they wear their nice clothes? Love your fashion style.
Well done. Most of these done with a light hand are doable except for the short shorts. To me it just looks like half the outfit is missing. Acceptable only on the beach pulled on over a bathing suit with a flowing linen shirt. But I’m of an age. 😉
Thanks for the video! I don’t agree with you only in a one point; you’re speaking about “trends to avoid”, but honestly you’re speaking about a good taste and bad taste kinds of dressing in a normal daily life. That’s how it called when I was a teen)
Soo for office core I pulled out my old grey blazer that I used twice for interviews back in 2018 … & I made the cutest birthday outfit paired with a black skort, black bodysuit, tights and my baby pink leather bag, baby pink manicure… & black kitten heels with a satin bow on them …. It was a vibe! I got so many compliments and it was all pieces I already owned… I’m a girly girl I’ve always been so I love ballet core mixed with office core since I am a Millenial who already did the semi formal clubbing scene back in 2010 it feels very at home for me to mix these styles lol
It's a no to Excel bags. The models on the catwalk are carrying them empty ahahaha. As for metallics, I would limit it to one piece - whether clothing or accessories. I do have silver trousers, and they make you visible in dark streets 😁
As a handbag lover/collector, I feel like I’ve been hearing “BIG bags are coming back, you guys!” every season for the past five years. There are a few that break through - the Icare by Saint Laurent, the Margaux from the Row - but by and large I’m not seeing them in the real world. Could just be where I live. Maybe others are seeing them?
Thanks, always enjoy your trend summaries. Although I can't say I agree with the concerns about clothes ageing us. I'm 50 often mistaken for younger, but I just don't care if I look my age. I think we should embrace whatever trends ffloats our boat. I look at many young people and they don't seem hung up about size, age or shape. I think it's fine to proceed with caution on some trends, but if you like metallics or 80s style dressing, I say Go For It. True style is not phased by trends, IMO.
Here is my take on these trends. Metallics are good in small doses and shoe or hand bag. Sequins maybe for certain occasions. The whole suiting/office wear trend i am sick of. I spent more than 30 years in the corporate world, been there. I prefer a more boho look. Less masculine more girlie, more color. XL bags hurt my shoulders and back!
I like aspects of most of these trends I'm here for toe dipping 😁! Big bags for shopping or as a weekender bag! I like the metallic and sequin trends, but will only buy if I can find a way to wear them as a basic. Maybe a button down metallic shirt with subtle bow earrings!
Honestly it turns me off the say that you can’t wear this or if you are at a certain age.. I feel young to be old so if I love a trend I’ll wear it . Not sure who created those rules that at certain age I am limited to what I can or can’t wear.
@@rosej9686 that is true I am just saying that influencers or content creators who keep repeating that at a certain age you can’t wear bows or flowers or shimmer on your eyes or whatever because it is girly girl or not appropriate for over 40 seriously turns me off because I am not sure who put these rules is it the fashion police!!!
Thanks Leonie. I think I’ll give the sea urchin look and the hot pants a miss in the clinic. I do have a silver metallic leather pencil skirt and the trend has inspired me to wear it more. ❤
With spring and summer coming and the wedding seasons starting next month , here in US. Can you please do a video for dressy for big weddings and smaller? Maybe people can get an idea of what not to wear white or black or what’s appropriate!!! What’s in for spring summer, 2024 Thank you
Absolutely love the skirt you are wearing in this episode. Very much in tune with your personality. In my book, you are a Kibbe Flamboyant Natural (as I am too) and that's the kind of garment that fits this type (like the streetstyle you used to wear so well). You might guess I am not a fan (and never was) of girly gadgets like bows, ruffles, lace or anything over the top - makes me look like a dragqueen ;-).
Lightweight, washable/wipable oversized tites are very practical. Why not choose ones that look great instead of a Home Goods logo bag that ruins an outfit. Price makes a big difference when picking up groceries. When shops give you a paper bag without a handle, its nice to have a sturdy tote with a rip resistant handle that spreads out the pressure points on your hand, arm or shoulder. I am looking for multiples of solid color nylon bags that are lightweight enough to fold and carry in a pocket or a small purse. And there are so many good options for insulated bags to carry lunches to the office, pick up carryouts on the way home or protect a few frozen items.
❤ video. You are too polite. The short shorts are knickers. They look awful on a woman of any age and shout "look at me". Finally, you're entitled to an opinion, we can like it or lump it. You've been around fashion for decades. You speak from experience.
I agree with you about avoiding the 80's style, I lived through that and I tell you it was not pretty. I avoid revival ! But it is great for younger generations, they find it fun.
I love a huge bag. It holds my stuff, all of which I use. I also carry around a mini fan, water bottles, and an iPad. I have a huge soft leather Calvin Klein bag. I hope this trend stays. I get annoyed trying to use a medium sized bag. Because it’s hard to even get anything from the bag.
Thanks for sharing a glimpse of your son. When you follow a content creator regularly and enjoy their personality, you also wish you knew a bit more about their life . I do realize why you keep many things private, though!
I'm imagining all the business for all the massage therapists, etc out of the very thin women portrayed carrying a fully-loaded XL bag. I like a decent size leather bag to bring my laptop for business, but those looked more like your carry-on luggage!
Larger bags are essential for those of us who need to carry extra ‘stuff’ for medical conditions! There’s nothing worse than a tiny bag that is bulging at the seams filled with essentials!
I like being fashionable, but I have to keep it classy... The return of oversized bags can sometimes make an outfit look sloppy... I would love to know where you purchased the black top that you're wearing...😊
I like to joke that the giant bags are to hold the pants you forgot to put on! 😂 I am 60 and I like the current retro trends on younger people but when I try it I feel like an old lady that forgot to modernize her style!
You’re so right about certain trends. The aluminum dress or gold wrapping paper as dresses or pants are SO UGLY even for 19year olds. The huge bags are making one feel like pack animal. Everyone will be carting around heavy machinery in a sack soon. Then bows that are so huge or so bright that no one can see anything else but a BOW🎀🎀🎀 And have you ever noticed the heavy women wear tiny shorts. Omg! I always wonder if they have mirrors in their homes Yes the solution is NOT never using trends the secret is to use them : DISCRETELY 😉 I just bought a gown for my son’s wedding. The bow on the bodice matches the dress and is makes the dress look even more appealing because it updates the plain black dress to a designer level and it’s hardly noticeable So I love a good trend and I also love to use them to elevate a look rather than dominate the look.
I love the ideas for wearing hair bows when you feel like you're a little too old for them. Like the hair bow earrings and the bows on the shoe and in the hair! I'm at 32 about to turn to 33 and I just don't want to be one of those women who is trying to cling to her youth! I had a friend in high school and her mom was like that. This is in the early 2000s and the mom was always wearing the low rise matching juicy sweatsuits with like a crop top. And she was over 40. And it just made me cri...nge so.hard. it was so bad. Every single time I saw her she was dressed like she was a teenager. Everyone made fun of her daughters too. It was so bad. I swore i would never be like that.
I honestly do not understand Runway, because in all honestly, very few likely dresses like Runway presentations. I been around clothing for years, especially in New York, Paris, and have yet to see Runway clothing worn by everyday person. So for me comparing trends to Runway just seem wasteful, but then I only control my eyes.
While I agree that runway is often hard to translate into everyday style, I don't agree that simply because one may be over 40, that "toning it back" isn't an ageist view. Have you seen Advanced Style? One of the freedoms of age is frankly not giving a hoot to the culturally imposed narrative that assigns gender and age particular clothing. If it makes a person feel uplifted, expressive and alive that is really all that matters. One can watch the trends and the art of the runway and create style from those expressions. It has very little to do with age, race, or gender. Just my thought. I'm not sure head to toe bows or sequins would be business casual for anyone. So let's not limit ideas based on age.
It’s funny how nowadays we need to tip toe around the obvious: Dress for your body type. Don’t age yourself more by wearing something designed for a 20 year old. Trends are fun but rarely look good head to toe.
Fringe/ sub trends are not my style. I like to mix trendy things with my more classic core items. I prefer men’s style tailored clothing, mixed with feminine elements that suit my esthetic. I really dislike the super sheer and super shiny looks. The continued mermaid core is more cartoonish than real life for me. But everyone should wear whatever suits their own personal style.
I agree! I still wear above-knee skirts in my 60s, because my legs are worth looking at. They look better than 90% of American teenagers’, so why not show them off! It’s not about age, it’s about what your body looks like!🙂
Basically you are saying as a woman who is 50+ I should be scared of expressing my creativity you showed a dress that is actually saved on my Pinterest board a metallic and the fashionable lady wearing it with the jewel toned blue shoes who I may add maybe in her 40s I could be wrong, But my point she wears it beautifully and boldly I know its a designer piece if I could afford it I two would wear it as I would not be scared to show my love of beautifully made garment that would allow me to express what makes me happy not what would be safe as someone who may be to scared to wear it herself. But wishes to Foster fear in others to express themselves and explore their creativity. I have mentioned this before on this channel and you yourself have expressed to us to be ourselves and wear what makes us happy. I. am. confused!!!! I have several sequin dresses and I will continue to purchase sequin beaded dresses as Trinny has stated you should whach closet confessions that metallic and sequins if done and worn correctly brighten the face as I have stated before I am 50+ I'm not run by my age but at certain times I may look tired but if metallic or sequin will bring light and freshness to my whole being then I will continue to wear it. What I can't understand is are you saying that those who are 20 to 30 should wear head to to metallic sequin because the are younger 🤔 🙄 😐 hmmmmmm you are perpetuating ageism. Someone who has a following as yours, you are saying to someone who has maybe saved and purchased an item they may have never considered to buy before but has plucked up the courage to try something new different that she or he feels on top of the world for the first time. I for one are glad that I have always always walk to the beat of my own drum but it saddens me in 2024 women who are 40 to 50 + are still being dictated to what they should or shouldn't wear just to make society in general feel comfortable be the norm were is it written I am most disappointed and offended.

Sending you love from the US as a local US mom of sport boys! It's definitely a whole different thing.
I love this Chanel. Thank you for your work.
You look beautiful, Leonie! 😊
Thank you so much x
I love the puppy in the back 🐶🥰
Thank you! I only realised he was there when I was editing this video LOL x
Great outlook Susan :)
Thanks for sharing Julie x
I like aspects of most of these trends I'm here for toe dipping 😁! Big bags for shopping or as a weekender bag! I like the metallic and sequin trends, but will only buy if I can find a way to wear them as a basic. Maybe a button down metallic shirt with subtle bow earrings!
Honestly it turns me off the say that you can’t wear this or if you are at a certain age.. I feel young to be old so if I love a trend I’ll wear it . Not sure who created those rules that at certain age I am limited to what I can or can’t wear.
Leonie always makes the disclaimer that we should wear whatever makes us happy.
These definitely aren't rules - just my opinion Mary x
The puppy at the back is super cute 😍😍😍
Thanks Leonie. I think I’ll give the sea urchin look and the hot pants a miss in the clinic. I do have a silver metallic leather pencil skirt and the trend has inspired me to wear it more. ❤
With spring and summer coming and the wedding seasons starting next month , here in US. Can you please do a video for dressy for big weddings and smaller? Maybe people can get an idea of what not to wear white or black or what’s appropriate!!! What’s in for spring summer, 2024
Thank you
That's a great idea - thanks x
Where did you get the skirt and top you are wearing??
Do you h have the jean skirt you're wearing on the show ?please reply.
❤ video. You are too polite. The short shorts are knickers. They look awful on a woman of any age and shout "look at me". Finally, you're entitled to an opinion, we can like it or lump it. You've been around fashion for decades. You speak from experience.
Thanks Deb x
I agree with you about avoiding the 80's style, I lived through that and I tell you it was not pretty. I avoid revival ! But it is great for younger generations, they find it fun.
I love a huge bag. It holds my stuff, all of which I use. I also carry around a mini fan, water bottles, and an iPad. I have a huge soft leather Calvin Klein bag. I hope this trend stays. I get annoyed trying to use a medium sized bag. Because it’s hard to even get anything from the bag.
Fair enough too. I was really only talking about the super sized bags not large totes but I hear you x
Thanks for sharing a glimpse of your son. When you follow a content creator regularly and enjoy their personality, you also wish you knew a bit more about their life . I do realize why you keep many things private, though!
Thanks Darlene - I appreciate that! 😊
The pictures you use to demonstrate trends are ghastly but runways go big. The trends can be worn maturely. The stores will give us options.
Yes they sure will give plenty of options x
Few older women have the legs to wear short shorts- trying too hard!!
The video! Just don’t agree about avoiding 80’s style. I feel powerful in my 80’s blazers and tops…like I finally take up space! 💪
Thanks for sharing!!
Mermaid core = marine life haha 😂
Facts!
Super sized bags are awful. Plus too heavy to carry
I like to joke that the giant bags are to hold the pants you forgot to put on! 😂 I am 60 and I like the current retro trends on younger people but when I try it I feel like an old lady that forgot to modernize her style!
Yes I know exactly what you mean!
I don't like the bow trend I'm 36 I think they don't look so good for women my age I'd look like someone my age trying to look like a little girl.
I hear you x
You’re so right about certain trends. The aluminum dress or gold wrapping paper as dresses or pants are SO UGLY even for 19year olds. The huge bags are making one feel like pack animal. Everyone will be carting around heavy machinery in a sack soon. Then bows that are so huge or so bright that no one can see anything else but a BOW🎀🎀🎀
And have you ever noticed the heavy women wear tiny shorts. Omg! I always wonder if they have mirrors in their homes
Yes the solution is NOT never using trends the secret is to use them : DISCRETELY 😉
I just bought a gown for my son’s wedding. The bow on the bodice matches the dress and is makes the dress look even more appealing because
it updates the plain black dress to a designer level and it’s hardly noticeable
So I love a good trend and I also love to use them to elevate a look rather than dominate the look.
Rosettes are also ridiculous 😂
It seems I'm forced to go naked.... 😂😂😂
Bows are beautiful…on babies.
The super-sized bags and short/underwear shorts are completely absurd.
Giving the hot pants the cold shoulder
👍🏼😂
mermaidcore is cute if I want to look like a fish.
No big bag for me.......
It’s funny how nowadays we need to tip toe around the obvious:
Dress for your body type.
Facts!
Enjoyed this one. Although age-appropriateness in every trend was a bit too much:) one general statement would have been more than enough;)
Bows are ridiculous 😊😊
I hate eighties hair! Ugly! Lol. I love skinny jeans. Depends on how in shape you are as to what looks good; not age!💃🏼
I agree! I still wear above-knee skirts in my 60s, because my legs are worth looking at. They look better than 90% of American teenagers’, so why not show them off! It’s not about age, it’s about what your body looks like!🙂
👍👍
Mermaidcore?? OMG.
Why can’t we wear what makes us feel good? 😊😊have a lovely day ladies.
No bow.
Basically you are saying as a woman who is 50+ I should be scared of expressing my creativity you showed a dress that is actually saved on my Pinterest board a metallic and the fashionable lady wearing it with the jewel toned blue shoes who I may add maybe in her 40s I could be wrong,
But my point she wears it beautifully and boldly I know its a designer piece if I could afford it I two would wear it as I would not be scared to show my love of beautifully made garment that would allow me to express what makes me happy not what would be safe as someone who may be to scared to wear it herself.
Big bags are very dumb! Not to mention bad for your back!
Babel does not have Hebrew. Make of that what you want
