On today's Star Wars Lore video, we take a look at the most useless ships featured in The Rise of Skywalker's big space battle, the Battle of Exegol. We're not ripping on the Xyston Star Destroyer, for once, either.

So glad that an Ewok glider made it to the Battle of Exegol in Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga

The GR75 is literally the spaceship version of the Gonk droid

The Battle of Exegol is a monument to the Star Wars sequels; it has a cool concept and it looks great, but really its just a hodgepodge of reused assets/ideas executed worse than they were before.

The Sith Eternal Star Destroyers were pretty useless as well

My problem with that Battle is that a scraped-together fleet like that, operating so close, with no standardization and little preparation would probably spend more time crashing into and shooting each other than doing anything effective, and would be prone to disorganization and panic.

I was honestly expecting a lot of Clone Wars era ships.

Honestly, the battle of Exegol annoyed me. It looked like it was basically Disney saying "Look at how we can defeat the bad guys through the power of friendship!" I get what they're trying to go for, but you can at least try to have it make sense. I remember when I went to see TROS with a friend in the theater we both said the entire final battle felt like a rip-off of the final battle of Avengers: Endgame, which came out earlier in the same year. Like, even some of the lines were similar. "I am Iron Man/I am all the Jedi."

The number of ships is overkill. No pun intended. Talk about traffic jam,one shot could ricochet and destroy all the ships.

How did all those thousands of ships all hyper jump into place so closely and not one of them had crashed or ran into another?

Having all of those empty freighters nearby would come in really handy when you have damage starfighter’s scrambling for a place to land or handy for Carrying fighters into battle

Normally, I'd be in a huff and nit-picking the effects team for copy-pasting a bunch of unarmed or pointless things just to pad a scene. Knowing the kind of nightmare deadlines ILM was put under though, I have to shift the blame. They did wonders, considering the unfair workload.

considering who was directing, no wonder the copy paste fleets and ships were a thing in the sequels. JJ is at least consistent in his deconstruction of franchises. (if you've suffered through the new star trek stuff, you know what I mean)

I really enjoyed this, I think half the fun is trying to figure out How these ships and others could be used even if not very effectively. Like the freighter carrying a ton of fighters for example, its a really ingenious way to make use of its features; very large open bay, massive doors, sturdy construction to handle long-term usage, that sort of thing.

Well we dont see any of the ships doing anything at all, instead we got rey and ben fighting palps...

I think it's pretty dumb to bring useless ships that might end up hampering the ability to maneuver for useful ships...

As an Armada player, I have customised GR75s I added hangar bays and bomber command to, carrying a wing of bombers, which I deploy from my MC75 as part of one variant of the "Raddus Dolls" strategy of deploying ever smaller ships from each other. Any transport vessel is a carrier if you are brave enough :D

The other uses for Balleen freighters could be 1) troop transports- could fit a lot of grunts in them (would make for good boarding actions- or frankly, the call for the fleet might include calls for infantry as well...) or 2) munitions transports- wouldn't be the craziest idea to have dedicated munitions ships hauling racks of proton torpedoes or vats of tibanna gas to supply the DPS ships.
