Harry Belafonte must be proud that Sam Cook sang this song like this.
This great singer only sing for a short time period of time and this is one of the the songs he blessed us with and for that I am for ever grateful, as a young black boy I needed inspiration to go out and challenge the world but at that time there were not many black entertainers my mother would allowed us to listen to but Sam was one that my beautiful mother approved of and so I listen to the gospel and then Soul music but the small town I grow up in travel was not an option it took money and we had none but thanks to Sam I was able to travel vicariously on the beautiful vocals of the one and only Sam Cooke, I remember this song because it took me to a place I have never been and Sam made it sound so wonderful and for three minutes I wasn't a poor kid anymore I was a blessed percipient holding a ticket to travel on a journey with the one and only Sam Cooke and to this day I still travel with Sam sixty years later on the same beautiful trip and the amazing thing is my mother is there and she seem to smile and approve as Sam sings the song that brought us back together and for that once again I have been blessed.
First time hearing this song by Sam.every day I hear something new by him. What a Gem we lost .

I've always loved this song. I remember hearing it when I was a little girl. It sounds even better with Sam Cooke's beautiful voice. What a talented guy! Too bad he was taken away so soon and so tragically.
