    So I'm six months until the big 50. I have slowed down with the parting and been looking at more natureful things to do in life. I bought a sailboat (Tanzer 22 $900) from a young head. Then I needed a kayak to get out to it. I bought a cheapie not knowing anything about kayaking. Then I watched youtube and learned. Now I have a 2020 Hobie 360 and it's amazing. From there I learned how to kayak fish. More youtube videos taught me about crabbing. I went and bought a crab cage and all the fixings then started crabbing from the side of my sailboat. Well, last night (October 22, 2020, I was home bored surfing youtube and ran across this video. Needless to say, it was exactly what I needed. I went out and bought an old green Jon Bout so I can go crabbing like this. Maybe even start my own youtube channel. The moral of this story is, you have definitely touched a new follower and I appreciate you posting this video. If you wish to check out my new kayak and old new skiff I'm on Instagram as kikicamerena911, Thake care.

      Thank you! I also have an old sailboat. You might have seen it already. It's in some of our videos. It's a Dufour Arpege 30. I learned how to sail it watching TH-cam. I love it. Hope you have lots of fun crabbing. Stay safe!

Stephanie is getting lots of views and subscribers on the shelling videos. I never knew how many people loved shelling. I can't wait to see the warmer weather when the Blue Crab fill the crab pots in our area. Also, one of my good bubbies just bought a 26ft Boston Whaler and we're hoping to do some offshore fishing with him this year! Hope you and the family are doing well! Hope to meet you soon!

      They are down-homey and simple. I love your videos. But the first ones have the "unpolished" uniqueness about them.
      Many TH-camrs lose their sincereness, when they get too many followers. They become celebrities. It goes to their heads. But most of them are not Christian...thanking the ocean, or Mother Nature, or other "gods".
      I love that you are Christians and give thanks and credit, to God, for all He created.
      I hope I haven't offended you. The fact that I continue to watch your channel, is a credit, to you, in my eyes.
      When we keep simple and give credit to our Maker, and He will continue to bless us.

      @@a.j.dickey5167 You haven't offended me at all. When I started making TH-cam videos, I barely knew how to use a computer. I had very little experience with computers because the jobs I worked didn't require me to use a computer to do them. I just needed to work hard, have good health, and stay motivated. Stephanie had to guide me through a lot of the process of making the videos. Trust me, I've worked hard to share the videos I've shared, and I'm surprised we have as many followers as we do. I wish I could do better but I'm me and I'm proud of what I've shared. I definitely don't feel like a celebrity. There are other TH-camrs with far less videos that have way more subscribers and I'm happy for them, too. You guys have helped humble me. I appreciate the ones that come up to me and tell me they like our videos. I often wonder if they're being real with me or just joking. Stay safe and take care. I'll always give God the credit for everything in my life no matter what others think. I was given a choice and I'm thankful that I can choose to believe what I want.

      Thank you for reaching out. I do love your videos. I don't care much for fishing, crabbing or shrimping, but your videos have gotten me interesting. I love how you include LaGrand. He a delight. My youngest brother is mentally handicapped. I wish a good man, like you, would include him in activities
      Perhaps, you're an amateur or professional, they are perfect to me and obviously many more. We appreciate the time and effort...hours of editing, you take to make them.
      I still love the rough, first efforts of TH-camrs.
      I am glad that God is the center of your (and mine) lives. He keeps us humble.

I set the pots out every now and them so I can help others keep up with how the crabbing is going in our area. Another thing we love doing is shrimp trawling. If you like crabbing you'd probably find that pretty interesting as well. I think NC is the only state that let's people trawl inshore. We have a few trawling videos on our channel as well. I love it. Are there places to crab from shore nearby your crabbing spots

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for the comment! There are plenty of places to crab from the shore here! It's so easy to catch Blue Crab here during the warmer months and plenty of public docks also for everyone to use. In the Summer when you're in the right spots here it's even hard to fish without Blue Crab taking your bait or you may even reel them in while there holding on to your bait! We have put crab pots off of docks and within an hour have 15 or more crab in them. That's on a really good day. Again, thanks for the comment and watching! If you know of others that like Crabbing or other things on the water ask them to check our channel out! We really appreciate any type of help with the channel. We will try to continue to improve the channel as best we can! 🙂

      My only concern is the tide carrying the traps away But I am doing a short soak so I could just watch the tide and plan accordingly or try a inter coastal river that does not have as much tide action crystal river is supposed to be loaded with blue crab

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@donaldferguson2759 When we put ours off of a pier, we usually tie it on to the pier itself so we won't have to worry about it moving away from that area by the tide. Make sure to check your local regulations to know where you can legally do so and it attaching to a public structure is permitted. But also we have rebar on the bottom of our traps which is used to weigh them down so even when they are not attached to a structure like a pier or dock, they will not be moved by the tide much, if at all. Also you want to make sure you have enough rope attached as well, cause if the trap isn't attached to any structure and the tide does happen to move them you want the rope to be long enough that if it does get moved into deeper water you'll still be able to find it. Or if it is attached to a dock, you want to make sure of course that the rope is long enough for the trap to sit on the bottom. Wherever you purchase your crab pots/traps from will most likely have an option to buy the ones with or without rebar attached, rope and bouy and all or just plain trap and you outfit it with the rest yourself but the same business will have everything you need. GOOD LUCK! Keep us informed on how it goes!

    Stab them carcasses to chum flavor. Around here we have so many variety of fish. I usually slice them head to tail.. just getting the most oil in the water to chum them in. We have squid and flounder in abundance .Chum salmon is the best! Skin them out and smoke fillets. The skin will ooze oil even after you skin them out. Then they are full of eggs too. Its a very good bait . I have crabbed for over 30 yrs. and use everything from mussels to clam to oysters. Everything works good but chum salmon and eggs with squid works best.

    I use to crab commercialy and ive noticed you have a lot of line on the traps . Thats good , but have you thought about adding a small weight 8-12' below the float so that the line dont float wild ? With the weight keeping the line straight below the float there's a less chance of another vessel getting wrapped up in the line and that vessel cutting your line and the trap is lost . Love the channel, ive subscribed and fish on man

    • @SaltyReflections
      @SaltyReflections  ปีที่แล้ว +1
