    Don't you just love Hickory Mound? It is so beautiful. Sometimes I just drive down there for the nice scenery. It's a great place for star gazing, too. We use to go there at night & catch shrimp with a net, and head light. You touched on a pet peeve of mine. I can't believe how people can throw their garbage on the ground. Nature is too beautiful to be disrespected like that. God bless.

    Our family has been hand-lining for generations. It’s great!
    We steam them in the same pot setup.
    3 cans of beer
    3 cups of vinegar
    1 cup of old bay
    Throw in a half-bushel of (whole) crabs and layer another cup of old bay on top with another splash of vinegar.
    Let the crabs steam for 10 minutes until the ones on top are nice and red.
    All those leftover guts and shells make amazing compost for the garden.

      For sure, the most popular spot in all of Florida to harvest them is about 45 minutes from me. To be honest, the ramps get so packed during scallop season I tend to avoid going.

    Man, my brother and I use to handline crabs growing up in Virginia Beach. We'd also go to them empty piers on the naval base and just throw down lines with chicken and fill up our bucket in under an hour. Those were the days and I miss those days. BTW, where is this location at? Its beautiful

    My boy would love this.. we’re in Michigan and visited Panama City beach last November, first time in Florida and loved the area. We visited St Andrews State park that looked similar to this place to spot gators. I figured we were looking in a fresh water area. Are these crabs freshwater also or is that salt water running through there?

    • @TKOutdoors
      @TKOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They will run up freshwater some, but prefer saltwater or brackish water. Chances are if you were near the coast, you were in brackish water and could have found these crabs.

      I don't fish that area, it's my understanding you don't need a license to do this. I'd check the state FWC regulations to make sure.

I don’t know how to use artificial bait or what to even use. I don’t know any locals to go with and learn from. So I just try to learn something new every time I go. Caught my first red fish at the first dock you come to from the 98 side. Was tickled pink to catch that little feller!!
