I was a huge Pumpkins fan and saw Hum open up for them in 1998 on the Adore tour. Ended up enjoying Hum's set more, even though I only knew a couple songs. Adore was great and all, but wasn't a fan of that tour in particular... too much twinkley piano and the dual drummers that just sounded off. So, for me, Hum stole the show... I wished they had a longer set.

I'm a huge HUGE HUUUGE fan of the '90 alt rock since I was like 15. Like fucking love deftones, Smashing pumpkins, Failure, Soundgarden, etc.
And somehow, today, at 29 years, I heard HUM for the first time. And I loved every second of it.
Oh what a time to be alive.

They just re-released all 4 of their albums on vinyl and cd. It’s a good time to become a fan 😈 listen to Electra2000 if you want more really heavy stuff like this. “Downward is heavenward”. To feel like you’re in some ultimate sci-fi summer thrill. And inlet if you want to feel like you’re on top of the world.

It was early 90's I was 12 years old. HMV used to have CD's you could listen to in their stores. I put-on a set of their headphones and HUM's "I Hate It Too" was the first song that came on. I was HOOKED! HUM is and will always be my favourite band, I own every album and EP they've ever produced. It was I believe 1998 my brother and I had scored tickets to see them play in Toronto, it would be my first time getting to see them live. I was freaking out! They were doing a cross Canada tour if I'm not mistaken. I ended up getting sick and couldn't go to the show. They then were in a car accident following that show, damaged their tour van, and that was it. They never toured in Canada again and I never got to see them. I really wish that one day they would release new music.

The morning scatters in and I am steady like a drug
    Feeling out this one
She wakes up smashed as hell and steadies her ass against the rail
And bends before the pounding rain
She had the whitest bright ideas
    All along about my love
And I need this fucking fix and I beg her to pick from
One of the billion ways to feel no pain
The morning after bends reflected and I can hardly stand
The way this whole thing makes me seem
She climbs out from her dream with lungs hardly as she screams a stereo scream
    And bends before astounding rain
She's got a system made of metal
And magnet bits inside her brain
And she opens her box of tricks and begs me to pick from
One of a billion ways to feel no pain
She had the whitest bright ideas
That all the world would sleep away until the nightmare ends, everyone is on
    Wait, wait on the end
Hold me uptight, let me breathe now
And hold me upright, let me breathe now

1995 summer before my Jr. year HS, I was visiting my grandparents. Well, sent there to be lectured for getting caught smoking trees. I was sitting in Grandpas recliner watching 120mins late one night eating goldfish. Stars came on and I just sat there asking who the fuck is this. I always hear a song and forget the name and band before buying it. Not this time. I wrote down HUM and Stars. Got to Hastings as fast as I could next few days and bought You'd Prefer An Astronaut. Brought that CD back to Oklahoma with me and it instantly created dozens of HUM fans when they heard it.

I love how endless music discovery is, especially when we’re talking about past decades. For me, my introduction to the 90s was obviously through popular groups like Nirvana, RHCP, and the like. And then, you really dig deep into the other stuff going on from that era-Hum, Failure, anything indie (MBV, Pavement)…God, music is an endless, beautiful scavenger hunt (as I always say).
