We came to Savannah as tourist and just fell in love with this beautiful, historic city.....so much so that we moved here, after living in Chicago for 50 years! Savannah has been our home for 7 years so far and we're loving it!!
I was stationed aboard the USS Savannah AOR-4 and we pulled into Savannah for the Shrimp festival, one of the most beautiful cities I have seen. The Commanding Officer was given the "Key to the City" from the Mayor, in uniform with our "Savannah" patches, we got unto alot of places free, the people loved us, and gave us a great welcome, seems I did not have to spend any money, even the taxis gave us free fair! A port visit I will never forget, THANK YOU SAVANNAH!
I had the pleasure of living in Savannah for ten years! My wife and I were in our twenties and just starting out. Two of our sons were born there. I worked at the newspaper just across the street from city hall and the Hyatt. I can’t tell you how many times I walked along River Street for lunch, or on some of those church steps in Johnson Square. Working on 111 W. Bay Street was thrilling, right in the middle of everything.
I hope you come to Jefferson City Missouri one of these days. My wife and I are from Cuba but I grew up in Miami. She has only been here since 2016. I went to Citrus Grove on 22nd Ave. When I picked her up at MIA in 2016, I showed her around Miami and then planned to show her Savannah and Gatlinburg on the way back to Missouri. While in Savannah I took her on one of those tourist trollies, the kind I used to get stuck behind on my way to work…making me late! So after proudly showing off to her my wonderful and former city I asked her what she thought. Her answer was just three words. Too many squares!!! That’s my guajira for you….! Hope to meet you one of these days….
Next time you are in Savannah let me know and I'll get you on our trolley tours with Old Town Trolley (green and orange ones) I think you actually got me giving a tour...lol.
Forgot to mention, we also stayed at Fort McAllister, after being rejected by another place because he did not want truck drivers at his place. As tight as Fort McAllister is, we did it with the larger semi truck and our trailer. Looks like we should have hit that place near the campground too, well next time. Right before you mentioned spending a week, I had said same thing to Barb. Btw, as much as I love downtown Savannah, there is a shorter way from the Ft. to Tybee, although the GPS and Google do not suggest the route we used, it was good. Wormsloe we did not know about, something Barb has wanted to see and yet so close to Sam's Club that we have been at for fuel a few times. Thanks again, this is one of our favorite videos, made us homesick for Savannah.
For anyone visiting Savannah for the first time I strongly suggest going to the visitor center on the outskirts of the city and taking one of the Trolley tours. They make stops so you can hop on and off if you want to linger. I got fed up trying to find a parking spot near the river front so I went across that bridge, parked at the hotel, walked through the lobby and hopped on the free ferry that takes your right to River St.
We took the trolley tour when we spent a day in Savannah in 2019. It was excellent, and I recommend it. I recognized a lot of the tour highlights in Traveling Robert's video.
So nice to see your wife part of the video, if for ever so briefly. Hopefully she will become more comfortable in front of the camera over time. The pink house for dinner is much more than fried chicken.
I love traveling with you all from my living room chair. I have been to many of these wonderful places, but have not seen a lot of the 'out of the way' places that you show on your channel. I thank you for the trips and I pray for your safety on the road. Blessings
Robert! Savannah is so hauntingly beautiful. The last time I was there, I had walked by the James Oglethorpe monument statue. The statue is positioned so his back is to St Augustine. St Augustine was Spanish and very Catholic. Later I went back to my hotel room and watched the news. Come to find out His Majesty King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia were visiting St Augustine that day to visit the Castillo de San Marcos. Yes the paddle on the back of the boat needs to spin! LOLOL Stay Well!!
After talking about business all day, it's so relaxing to sit down and watch one of your videos while I enjoy dinner. I love learning about tr he different towns, thank you and say hello to your wife. Not sure about her name But, love the videos ..thanks
Robert, those sea Odier's was so cute just really enjoying themselves kind of remind me of mother cats with their kittens playing and enjoying each other, Georgia state very beautiful Thank you and your wife for the upload of this video Robert, you help me see a lot more of the United States with all your uploads so thank you very much.
Hello Robert and family... be sure to visit the J. W. Marriott (on the waterfront) next time, as it is relatively new and quite exciting inside. There is a very special collection of beautiful gems and large minerals, on display, that you will not likely get a chance to see anywhere else. Keep up the good work...Mary
We cannot wait to explore Savannah after watching your incredible video!!! Thank you for sharing your travels with us! P.S. Ila's laugh is beautiful! Enjoy!!!
I've lived outside of Savannah for 19 years. I only go to the Southside when absolutely necessary, but only go towards downtown to visit my daughter. Traffic sucks, parking can be impossible and like all tourist towns, everything is majorly overpriced.
Savannah & Tybee Island are great. We stayed there in February this year & loved it. We need to check out Ft McAllister though as I had ancestors who were in the Georgia State Militia during the Revolutionary War & had engagements along the Ogeechee River. Great video 👍
Wonderful video of coastal Ga. I will visit Savannah for 2 days with my teenager. I showed her this video ,and she was so excited. Now I am planning our walking route with pts of interest and parking garages Looking for cheap parking areas is such a challenge
Awesome show. I live 2 hours away so have been to Savannah/Tybee many, many times. Thanks for showing one of my favorite places Bubba Gumbo's some love.
Savannah is a very beautiful city.......I am thinking of spending a week in this place. It is a city with charm.Congrats...... Keep safe..... and see you on the road...>>>
Robert it looked like you had some yellow flies also swarming on you at the fort. They do bite and leave a nasty bite. Love the video. We were in Savanna in June it was awesome.
Never heard them called 'yellow flies'. . . In Ohio we call them deer flies - at least as good as I could see them in the video . . . same thing perhaps? So, I looked them up. Now I know what a yellow fly is, and it turns out they are related to deer flies and horse flies. Yuck. Yes, they hurt and are a pain in the butt
Savannah native here, what a great you-are -there vlog. If you ever return, you may wish to drive the historic Ardsley Park/Crescent Circle neighborhood south of Victory Drive. It is the loveliest residential area in the whole USA.
Good to see McAllister State Park again. I was campground host there for 5 months in 2018. A buddy of mine (Dean) was campground host when you were there in May. Nice to see Savannah again, too. I lived there for 6 years before becoming a full-timer. In fact, I took the host opening at McAllister in order to make a slow transition into full-timing.
Possibly my favorite city in the country. I try to make it down there 2, maybe even 3 times a year. My favorite thing is driving down 95 south in the early spring and feeling the air temperature change and smelling that southern spring air.
I could almost feel the heat, humidity and bugs seeping thru my TV screen! Not a snowball’s chance in hell you’ll ever find me in the South during the summer months. Was in Savannah in April and conditions were perfect.
Squirrel - cute! I carry a bowl in the basement with us and put water in it for squirrels and birds. It gave my cats something to look at. Thanks for the tour of Savannah. I need to go (I don't like cities but I'll make an exception :-)
Great video of my town! 😍 Actually, the Westin Hotel is on an island in the Savannah River, so still Georgia. Actually, Plant Riverside is partly historic, since it centres around the old power plant (which say empty and deterioratIng for YEARS! I love the tavern under the Pink House!!! Haha, I feel the same about the line at Leopold's! 😁 Electric Moon is one of my favorite new places. You should have tried the slide! I'll have to try Fish Tales! Thanks for sharing your visit!
No visit to Savannah is complete without seeing The Ships of the Sea Museum. Many years ago, it resided in a 3-story building on River Street, and I was always fascinated with the displays. Then it moved to MLK Blvd and they only show a portion of the collection at a time. Very worth browsing through.
I love @ 32: Robert's big smile when he discovers the Salsa band setting up. 🎵 Wish I had had this tour of Savanah years ago when I went through the area.. I missed so much.
Robert this is my city, I was born here in 1967 on East Park Avenue in historic district. I'm sure you've already gone by now. I hope you had a good time. We're having a break from the really hot hot summer that we had last year in 2021. Some may not notice, I'm not saying it's still not hot -not really the heat wave we can usually get here - but at least we have a breeze this year and cooler nights than what we have seen in the past.
Absolutely love your videos, I sit down and watch them with my family when they come out. I don't have a RV but this gives me goals of one day owning one and traveling. Thank you!
Hoosier here. We plan on visiting Savannah/Tybee Island in late January. Don't expect to stay somewhere nice but I hope to see a few of the squares and restaurants downtown in the 1-2 days we're there.
Thank you for this great video. My husband and I are very fond of Savannah. We actually got married on Tybee island. If you ever go back go to Hucapoos. Best pizza ever. Job well done. Thanks so much.
This Savannah vlog was awesome!!! You showed so many different places it was a wonderful tour video!!! Excellent job Traveling Robert!!!Loved that you went to the fort the next day too!!! I was hoping you would!!!. The live salsa band was a great find as well!!
hi Robert. so glad you got to enjoy my hometown. Plant riverside is a wonderful revitalization project on the old Georgia Power Plant. We love sitting on river street in the evenings watching the cargo ships and dolphins. Savannah offers a little bit of something for everyone. The history covers everything from Revolutionary War, pirates, civil war, and even the creation of the song jingle bells. Above the stores in City Market are artist lofts that are free and open to the public. My favorite time to explore the city is fall and early spring when all the flowers are blooming. When you come back check out the Savannah Ogeechee Canal Society. Lots of history and in Fall and Spring beautiful wild flowers bloom including Iris. There's a lovely trail that goes to the river.
We were just there July 5-9, staying at Thousand Trails' Oaks at Point South which is 40 minutes away from the historic district in Savannah and, surprisingly, there were plenty of empty spaces! Planter's Tavern under the Pink House is world-class in ambiance and food rivaling some European places! The menu is exactly the same as the Pink House. Again, surprisingly, there were empty tables (Planter's Tavern does not take reservations unlike the Pink House). Highly Recommended!!
I was just visiting Savannah today on the way to Hilton Head. I did not watch the video until after we saw the city. You did all the things we wanted to do plus more. I hope you had a nice time.
Thanks Robert. We, along with many others who also recommended you go to it knew you would love The Original Crabshack. Next time hit it near night, their lights are something and hopefully you can meet up with the famous Capt. Jack, the owner. We have been there a few times in a semi tractor, no trailer. We also love Sting Ray's in downtown Tybee Island and have slept in the truck at the city parking lot (with official permission) next to the beach, in front of the Tybee Hotel and only a block from Sting Ray's... hint, hint. Parking hint Forry aka 4E was good too and actually use that to get people to pronounce our name correctly, lol. So many places we have yet to make it to, Thank You Steven for the ideas. We never spend enough time in Savannah. Barb has forbid me to drive down along the river, but I will. Many are suprised to find that the downtown (upper level road) is actually an official truck route.
We came to Savannah as tourist and just fell in love with this beautiful, historic city.....so much so that we moved here, after living in Chicago for 50 years! Savannah has been our home for 7 years so far and we're loving it!!
Wow that's awesome. The weather alone.
I was stationed aboard the USS Savannah AOR-4 and we pulled into Savannah for the Shrimp festival, one of the most beautiful cities I have seen. Nobody and I mean nobody does urban RV videos like Robert; absolutely the best.
I have always loved the history of the southern states. I was through Savannah one time. absolutely loved it.
Excellent 👌
Savannah looks beautiful no matter the number of times one visits 👍🏻
Savannah looks beautiful. That rooftop bar looked an easy place to spend a few hours!!
A rainy day in Pittsburgh but a great hour spent down south. What a wonderful tour of Savanna and the fort. ❤

Oh Savannah, I wish you were my home ! 😍
F A N T A S T I C ! ! ! 💯👍😄

Back in the day, soldiers smeared lard on their bodies to ward off the bug bites.

I truly fell in love with Savannah, I was there in March the weather was perfect, atmosphere was so tranquil, great video. So many places to go to.👍
Thank you for all the hard work that you put into making these videos.
I live in Savannah and it's a beautiful city.
So nice to see your wife part of the video, if for ever so briefly. Hopefully she will become more comfortable in front of the camera over time. The pink house for dinner is much more than fried chicken.
I was excited to see you put my ancestor's monument in the video around 16:18! Thank you Robert
Beautiful thank you for sharing and taking us on a lovely 🥰 trip
Thank you for putting up with those gnats for us Robert! That’s called dedication!❤
Just wanna say we love watching your videos

That Salsa band! I wouldn't have been able to walk away! My favorite genre! Great video of Savannah too!
We live 45 minutes from Savannah and love to go there for the live music. So many places have music on the weekends. :)
Great job on your photography and narration, as usual! Savanna is a fantastic "walking" city. Thanks for sharing. "Fly pelican, fly!!"
Wow thank you for sharing that about John Wesley. I was raised Methodist and never knew about Savannahs rich methodist history
Hello Robert and family... be sure to visit the J. W. Marriott (on the waterfront) next time, as it is relatively new and quite exciting inside. There is a very special collection of beautiful gems and large minerals, on display, that you will not likely get a chance to see anywhere else.

I’ve shared this video with my daughter who works in the Plant Riverside District at the JW Marriott.

Yes!! River Street Sweets!! The pralines are amazing.
I've only been to Savanna once while in the military. Very neat city. Continue to have fun and always be safe, Robert.

I was thinking poor squirrel just needed a drink. I would have gotten a bowl.
Thank you for the tour of Fort Mc Nat. Enjoyed the video.
Love Savannah ❤️, I have been there twice but watched your videos makes me want to return!

Great video. I’m here in Savanna now for the first time and love it!
I lived in Savannah, Ga on and off from 2004-2016. The downtown area is beautiful.

That Bridge Was Huge
We're in Atlanta area (Marietta...very close to Acworth). My daughter and I watched this together and she is now a big fan of yours!
That’s still Georgia across from the Savannah river.
I was just visiting Savannah today on the way to Hilton Head. I did not watch the video until after we saw the city. You did all the things we wanted to do plus more. I hope you had a nice time.

I’m traveling to savannah next month. Very helpful video.
Savannah is amazing! All the foodie spots have incredible lines, but they are worth it.
thank you robert
Loved this video! I am going to go to Savannah soon. I have to stop at the Crab Shack too. Looking forward to Sunday’s video.
nice video, love the trees in Savannah
Hey Robert, did I miss your Spring/Summer Episode 3 before your current live chat?
Just came back from Daytona Florida, I had a good time.
Now this is a fun trip!
