  • This promotional film shows the Transit in its many guises including a security van, delivery van, minibus and pick up. It is even shown as a romantic rendezvous. The Transit featured is the second generation van, launched in 1986.

Mk3 pickups wasn't great they used to snap the chassis behind the bulkhead but the mk4/5 had a bigger higher chassis leg it was the best transit ever built. Non of this DPF and sensor crap.

I worked for a small family building merchants some time ago they had a couple of Transits a Cargo and P100. The ford cargo was used to tow the transits up a steep track once or twice as they were non turbo diesel and were utterly gutless. They couldn’t get up the hill even in first gear.

I don't understand why most of them were naturally aspirated Diesels for so long. The turbo 2.5Ds were uncommon right until the end of Mk5 production in 2000. The Diesel Mk6 finally gave you at least a non-intercooled / low pressure turbo as standard.

I owned a 2002 Transit briefly not long ago. The Duratoq engine (Jag/Mondeo block) is expensive when it starts going wrong. The fuel pump solenoids (yes, more than 1) are a pain. Try replacing the power steering fluid pipes without stripping the thread in the steering rack with is made from aluminium with the strength of paper mache'. Not having a self bleeding fuel injector system is a pain which resulted in my being towed home by the AA. I would only buy another Transit if it was an older one with a York diesel or a Pinto engine.

The engines found in the 2002 models were still more reliable than the rubbish found in today’s customs though!

This actually quite funny because I own one of the MK4 Ford Escort company cars that use to be owned by Coke-Cola's African & Middle eastern division. Plus I have the paper work to prove it.

Very inventive ad coming from Ford of England. Much less stodgy than many of their car ads. Only in Britain would you see armored car guards for some reason wearing helmets with face shields but otherwise unarmed. Maybe they were supposed to throw their helmets at holdup men.
