I had to come back and comment again! This man is the high priest of mbira! Examine his genius in this piece - he laid 2 separate tracks - nemakonde tuning (bass gandanga) and regular gandanga tuning so well you can not tell the two mbiras apart; it is a feast for the ears!!
A mature artist - I hear in his voice the deep cultural reservoir of his people. it's so good, so good .. like Otis Redding u cld say. Then that angelic mbira. Feeds the soul
Haha it made me cry but it was weird, like I was happy but sad at the same time? Don't really know how to explain it but I cried a lot. It is really a beautiful rendition of Tadzungaira; I'm going to try and learn the words.
Love the bass mbira's sound. More importantly, it is a very moving composition and performance. I can understand why Wombat almost wept while listening to it at library. I just discovered Forward, but I've loved Mbira for a long time.
Naoya Hey Todzungaira is Shona (Zimbabwe native language) for “We are lost” The musician seeks to the ancestors and God to ask them for assistance as the people are now lost.
Mwari, todzungaira... Oh Lord, we have become wanderers Midzimu yangu, todzungaira Oh Great Spirits, we are now wanderers Chaminuka, todzungaira Chaminuka, O Great Spirit, we are now wanderers... Imi midzimu, nevari mumakomo, todzungaira You, our ancestors, and you the Spirits in the hills, we are now wanderers”
War is ugly, music is beautiful, love is lovely. An appeal to the Great Sky God. Listen carefully to the chiming of the mbira, then the voice making a call for intervention. Let the music carry your spirit far into the inner recesses of beyond.
this moves me deeply. can someone please provide an english translation to what he is singing? i'd be happy to make a donation for that. thank you! what a beautiful, and stirring, offering. thank you.
I am not sure that the lyrics can be found because it doesn't have specifically organised lyrics and chances are that Forward is freestyling within the framework of the standard called Todzungaira. Each artist will add their own character to the standard. Todzungaira basically means "we are scattered/lost/suffering" and the song is done as a prayer/appeal to the spiritual realm asking for delivery from all the suffering that we are going through as people. Thats my 2 cents but someone else can add more for you.
This man is anointed by the spirits of our ancestors!! His playing style is hauntingly beautiful!!
Deep. Meaning people take no value for things ther given for free
How could any 4 people dislike this? This music is the healing of our world.
I never understand what’s up with people disliking videos!! If you don’t like something, just move on, right?!
Sadly troubled individuals. A prayer to end all suffering, and they don't want it.
that is true to me as well

I could not agree more
The mbira is great but the voice is hauntingly beautiful and deeply shona. Reminds me a little of Va Mapfumo.
