It's nothing special I do, Kordes and Meilland just make great roses that stand up in the garden and the vase. David Austen roses fall apart after 2 days on the bush, so you know their performance in a vase is gonna be poorer. Eden (meilland) gives over two weeks in a vase before it starts showing wear. Bliss (kordes) I never even pick at proper bud stage yet it always gives me at least 10 - 14 days. If i do everything right- pick early in the morning, choose unopened flowers, use fresh water, and flower food- its often 20 days before I'm throwing out my cut flowers for composting.
But where do you cut? if there are multiple blooms that are still developing and one is almost open? My newly planted roses all have buds, I live in Canada (Toronto), and want to maximize my short lived rose enjoyment. Thanks for your tips...Your garden is a dream!
Sometimes I end up cutting even with multiple stages of bloom in one stalk. It just means some will wilt faster than others. Every plant has different shapes and amount of flowers on it so there’s no uniform way or hard rule to follow. Thank you for watching! Enjoy your roses!🌹
Yes, great observation Earth Angel! Not just DA roses but Weeks roses too! 😊 It just depends on your preference of whether you want a day old rose or 3 day old rose! 🌹
Kordes and meilland roses last weeks in a vase that's why I choose them 😀.
Really! How do you get them to last so long?

Thank you for the tips. May I know what you mix with water to last longer the vase life of the blooms?
I use water cool water from my tap. Nothing special. 😊
is your Ancient Mariner long lasting on the tree?
By long lasting, do you mean days? All of my roses lasts just a few days on the parent stalk.
