We planted our first roses last year: Mister Lincoln, Double Delight and Peace. We learned a lot about caring for roses volunteering with The Rose Garden at Mesa Community College. Thanks!

Perfect. I've been meaning to learn about roses, but haven't had like 20 hours to dedicate to it. I'm so glad you did it for me! ;'D

Roses have a special place in my heart. My late father loved roses. So do I.

Love the varieties. I was never a fan of roses until I grew my first David Austin rose years ago and what a difference from the grocery store rose 😂 we recently moved but I am in the process of creating a rose garden. Some of favorite varieties are Desdemona, Eustacia Vye, Queen of Sweden and Darcy Bussell. I recently purchased Moonlight in Paris and Cathedral Bells. Thanks for sharing such great rose growing tips

Thank you for sharing your varieties and for your helpful information. I wanted to share two less known varieties Autumn Damask & Kazanlik which are perfect for jams. Yes, rose petals are edible and make a very nice jam!

I worked with the growers to find the best choices for the Arizona heat - then I picked the blooms I loved. They have some great filtering options on their website to help you narrow down your choices. One of the filters is heat tolerant roses - that is a good place to start.

I love heirloom roses. I just started growing roses (Mesa) about 2 years ago. I have not always succeeded. It has been trial and error for me and that is why I'm so happy you are an ambassador for heirloom roses and can share so much information. Currently I have in the ground Mister Lincoln, Claire Austin, Drop Dead Red, Sunset Happy trails, double delight and two icebergs. I can't provide a report on these because they are less than a year old. So far they look good. I also participated in the MEVRS rose auction and won a Maurice Utrillo. Will pick that up on Saturday. I am very interested to hear how your's go.

English roses are my obsession right now! I love David Austin’s climbers. I bought 2 Bathsheba last year, and 2 James Galway this year. Bathsheba has been showing off big time so far, the heat hasn’t slowed down the blooms yet. I think my next purchase will be Heirloom though! I love that first one you showed. 💕

Glad to hear you’re an ambassador for Heirloom roses. This past season, I’ve added 30+ roses to my garden. Thus far a few that are my favorites are Sunbelt Savanna, polka, Julia child, pretty in pink Eden, new dawn, Earth Angel, and Yves Piaget. And this was hard to narrow down. 😂

We have grown roses here in Arizona since we moved here in 1986. We have always found a great selection of both bare root and potted roses at Berridge Nursery in Phoenix. This spring 2024, they have the largest selection I think I’ve ever seen including the largest selection of David Austin roses which are my favorite.

Love David Austin English roses. The Poets Wife is a full buttery yellow with amazing scent. Waiting for Bathsheba and apricot climber also David Austin. Grown in containers be a bit patient. They may take a bit longer to mature.

Great advice. I have never grown roses but my grandmother had a beautiful rose garden in her backyard. I would love to carry on her tradition so I will definitely try a variety for beginners. 🌹

there are two fountain roses on the west side and a rambler. Only a short bloom season, but, were I to pick the blooms before more than half were open, they would rebloom. They can go all summer with no water and still try to overrun the garage. After bloom, they'll get cut back. right now, tho the roses are a mess, quail are looking for a nice home with a good nursery. Later, after the kiddies are gone, then they get pruned back with the chainsaw. Nope, serious! Try to mollycoddle a fountain rose and it'll sneer at you. :)

Many thanks for going through the varieties of roses 🌹. My favorites are the floribunda roses (specifically the white iceberg rose), but would like to try grandiflora in a container. Last year I accidentally bought a climber type, which didn’t do well in a pot. 😂 Live and learn!
