  • Today I am giving an overview of the upgrades I have done on my Himiway as well as covering the accessories and bike tools I carry with me while riding. Below are the links to all the parts and tools I have purchased.
    Edited to add: I also list a 19mm wrench below that I purchased after filming this video. I got a tip from a subscriber that the nuts on the rear tire are different sizes. One is 18mm and the other is 19mm.

My existing bike -repair stand is not built for the Himiway's weight. LOL! Enjoying your Himiway videos and looking forward to more. Can you tell me if your regular frame bike and your wife's step through use the same battery. We are considering two bikes like yours , and wonder if we could swap the batteries at the mid point of a ride if one rider was using quite a bit more battery assist than the other. Thank you.

    • @TinkeringTurtle
      @TinkeringTurtle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the batteries are interchangeable. My wife and I swap batteries on are longer rides to even out usage as I am significantly heavier than she is and she uses way less power.
      One note is the keys are unique to the battery cradle (bike) but the batteries will fit in either cradle...if that makes sense.

  • @jimstahl4403
    @jimstahl4403 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Tim, outstanding incite into the bike. I've added a lot of your recommendations and all work great. My big mess up was I added some cheap semi hydraulic disk brakes...they are a lot quieter and smoother, but very little stopping power, almost dangerously little stopping. I can plan ahead to slow down, but yesterday when a bear zipped in front of me, I couldn't even lock the wheels or rapidly slow down! Luckily he was on a mission and just kept going. What's your best advice for upgrading the brakes...such a huge price jump from the $40 to the $140 semi hydro brakes. Thanks for any input, for know I think I'll go back to the noisy mechanical brakes. An 80lb bike with a 225lb rider zooming down a mountain trail is scary!

    • @TinkeringTurtle
      @TinkeringTurtle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim, to your brake question. I have not done the upgrade, my bike paths are pretty flat and I haven’t needed the extra stopping power. But from what I have read, the people that seem to be happy with their brakes are the ones that purchased from Bolton ebikes. They are the Juintech M1 hydraulic calipers…$149.
      I may consider upgrading one of my bikes down the road to test them out, but I am not certain when that will be.

  • @lovedog-charlie2195

    Did you get a flat while using the Tannus insert? I would be interested in hearing that story, Keep it up, GOOD JOB.

    • @TinkeringTurtle
      @TinkeringTurtle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we did. My wife picked up an inch and a half long nail passing by an industrial park. Buried I. the tire all the way to the head.
      Neither Tuffy or Tannus would have prevented the flat. Slime or Flatout might have made a difference, but we haven’t put either of those in. We may in the future, but we haven’t yet.
      I did a couple of posts on the flat at the time in the Facebook group. “Himiway Motorbike owners club” (if you want to search them out and get more info.

      @TinkeringTurtle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stock seat post size for the cruiser and stepthru is 30.4mm. Most people can’t find a suspension seat post in that size, so they purchase the 27.2mm and add a 27.2mm to 30.4mm seat post shim.

      Hi Pat, since we installed the Tannus liners in our bikes we have rode approx. 1400 miles each. We have had a grand total of one flat. My wife picked up an inch and a half nail in her rear tire.
      Meanwhile we have hit innumerable amounts of bike path debris that made loud noises as they pressed into the fat tire and pinch/bounced away causing no harm.
      We are happy we spent the money, if nothing else it gives us peace of mind.
      Thanks for the question, be sure to subscribe for future videos!

    • @robpasma567
      @robpasma567 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely choose to go with inserts. On my second ride before Tannus a small thin chard of glass was all it took to create a flat. Since then I have confidence that those loud pops like Tinkering Turtle mentioned below won't leave me on the side of the path.

      Do you gear down to help the motor as you climb the hill?

      I think a thin jawed adjustable wrench would be a better value. Thin jawed because an adjustable wrench with a normal thickness would not be able to tighten the pedals if they loosen. And it should also work well on the nuts that hold the rear wheel. Keep in mind that this tool will be kept on the bike and used in a situation out on the road.

    I was wondering the diameter (size) of the seat post. I ordered a Cloud C9 Select seat. The original seat wobbles even when the bracket is tightened. I am thinking of ordering a DJC Bike Suspension Seat Post shock absorber damper post from Amazon $33.90. It specified they need the correct size. Do you know the size for the cruiser.
    Thanks

    • @TinkeringTurtle

      Hi Phillip, the seat post size on the cruiser and stepthru is 30.4mm. You can also buy a 27.2mm seat post and use a shim to bring it up to 30.4mm. That is what I did when I bought my Suntour suspension seat post. Good Luck!
