Drifting started on a dirt track. Very true. But drifting is still pretty awesome. Not my favorite type of racing, but it is cool. Always love to see an S2K Drifting! :D I love those cars.
@creation On an s2000, you would be hard pressed to add more than ~300 ftl lbs for a drift car. Keep in mind, this car will be driven AT the rev limiter for extended periods of time, so you need to tune conservatively, as not to pop the engine every event. Tire size only matters in relation to torque output, just look at all of the people drifting the little Toyota Corolla AE86s....those guys run 195 tires out back...
actually Tsuchiya-san did go out and drift that S2000. He was the first person to do that, and then the second person went out and drifted the S2000 - if you didn't notice.
Rx7 has 50/50 balance aswell, also yoshi factory S15, has the engine lowered and bought back a few mm, making it near 50/50 and these are some of the best D1 cars. so balance isnt the issue here. S2000 needs more turning circle, sivlias have a crazy 45, s2000 is 36 or something like that. also the honda eninge is extremly responsive! so pedal work, is a must
@ TheRatRodsKrew that is definitely NOT a turbo, but you're right, it's not a procharger. looks like a Vortech setup with liquid-to-air aftercooler. i would know because i have the exact same setup on my car.
no, u both spelled it wrong. it's keiichi. u spelled the last name right. anyway u r absolutely correct. he IS a beast. the girl is kazumi kondo, a regular veteran d1 umbrella girl and track correspondant.
And to comment on older posts it's harder to drift with lower powered cars since they need more speed and technique to initiate and hold drifts higher power u can power over and focus more on throttle control which to me is the easiest technique that's why tsuchiya asks people if they can drift stock cars cuz if u can drift an ae86 u can drift anything
Even though the Car is setup for drift you can see how hard it is to disrupt the S2000's chassis. He has to constantly kick the clutch to break traction. S2000's don't make great drift cars. It can be done but it's not as easy as you would think.
i don't see how more hp and torque makes it easier to drift. it makes it easier to get the drift started but once the tires are spinnin they pretty much stay spinnin. more hp just makes everything more touchy and makes things go out of control faster
Tires arent the problem, its the steering rack (adjusts ratios mid turn, reducing turn in ability) and the lack of torque. Even a 500hp turbo S2000 will only have ~300 ft lbs of torque. I currently drive a stock AP1 s2000 (2.0 liter 9000 rpm engine) The only way you can really get it to slide is to flick it at high speed...but you cant hold that slide because it doesnt have the power, and when you are in a nice slide, the steering ratio bounces around, making it sloppy looking
You are right, but this isnt a spoon engined car( Like advertised), as I thought it was. Spoon doesnt use FI on their engines. They may have some spoon parts, but its not the spoon car.
I drive a Miata dude, so does my friend. We don't complain about the short wheel base, the lack of power, or how it was made to grip, we just drive. Come talk to me when you can drift.
I test drove one an while back and thought it was pretty good. I think the power band is too short though for maximum performance. If I got one, I'd burn the crap out of the engine and replace it with another high revving Honda engine. Prolly the K20A Type-R or similar.
@yoyoholck Rallying is not powersliding, not necessarily. Powersliding is powering the wheels to create a slide, drifting is using inertia, like they do in rally. Japan popularized it and used it in sport, but definitely did not invent it.
its not hard puting it sideways, you just need to control it... some vtec killer cams for a smoother power line and you're good to go... and a better diff :)
I drive a 2003 s2000, and I can tell you the main reason they cant hold any slides, is lack of torque. This spoon engine only develops about 175ft lbs of torque, which with the amount of grip you get in an s2000, is very low. You will notice they did better after they overheated the tires (Reducing grip considerably) The car is great, but not an ideal drift platform
ofcourse,i was saying it was 51:49 STOCK.i think takng out the spare makes it better. hell you can swap a 2jz in and make it like 60:40.you can make it anyway you want.
@GenkiElite They dont drift S2000's alot because mid-engine (not "really" but it has 50-50 weight distibution and engine is behind front wheels so it counts as mid-engine) is hardest to drift + S2K is build for racetrack speedlaps not drift (if u want to drift, pick another car, its easier and might be cheaper).
I'm not sure if they changed the SPOONs drivetrain from FF to FR but a normal stock s2000 is FF if I'm not mistaken and FFs can't drift like an FR can.
yeah so would i but i was just stating the stock specifications.btw my mistake its 49:51,yes the rear end is a little bit heavier, but the spare takes car of that.;)
no.... b/c of the 50/50 weight balance, its harder to shift weight. same with FD3s. but if ur a pro, u can get better angles out of it b/c of the balanced state
I use to own s2k Too control it was hard, so it's considered sliding not drifting . Drifting a car is different to skidding however if your a good enough driver you can pull it off my cousin pulled it off in my car. He would tail whip it on a straights but that's not drifting. Drifting an s2k is not impossible but it's bit without mods it is very difficult
haha thats awesome :^B Man I miss GT4...I got rid of my ps2 and got a ps3...it only has Gran Trismo 5 (prologe)...it sucks you dont have the ability to modify your car..and no SPOON S2000 the prologe is not the complete GT5
@Nivlaxia rally is 4wd it much easier to control but before the audi 4wd quattro , it were the rwd corolla and datsun 510 that dominated rally , before they were in the rally those car were time attack machine like the skyline or rx3 . tsuchiya did`t invent the drift but when he were young he come to the track almost everyday to see his mentor drift skyline late 60`s but he do perfect all the techniques that is why they call him drift king not Kunimitsu Takahashi the godfather
Still here in 2019..s2k are never old
I just love how that F20C VTEC roars.
Drifting started on a dirt track. Very true. But drifting is still pretty awesome. Not my favorite type of racing, but it is cool. Always love to see an S2K Drifting! :D I love those cars.
This car has been my favorite ever since I drove it on the PS2's Grand Trismo 4
Whoever is drifting after Tsuchiya is a BEAST in that car. It looks so beautiful go around corners.
Super underrated Drift Comp car.
@creation

looks like that thing has one hard to find sweet spot.
god, that video is just AMAZING!!! he makes it look easy! someday i want to be able to drive like that. (like THAT'S gonna happen)
it wasnt just one person who started drifting it was just kids that used to race down the mountain passes in japan and started sliding
RIP Best Motoring and Hot Version
actually Tsuchiya-san did go out and drift that S2000. He was the first person to do that, and then the second person went out and drifted the S2000 - if you didn't notice.
I love that sound.
+1
it's gen terasaki, terasaki-san, the legendary
wow that's some crazy footwork haha
oh well.gitten is the best drifter on the earth.ive never seen anyone pull off as many clean, perfect drifts as him.
the last turn on this video was the best. SUPER PRECISE !
Rx7 has 50/50 balance aswell, also yoshi factory S15, has the engine lowered and bought back a few mm, making it near 50/50 and these are some of the best D1 cars. so balance isnt the issue here. that gen's S2k engine's sounds awesome
@ TheRatRodsKrew

gotta love that sound of that engine
I guess I'm quite randomly asking but does anyone know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Mustafa Gordon i watch on flixzone. Just google for it :)
@Mustafa Gordon try Flixzone. Just google for it :)
@Luca Colson yea, been watching on FlixZone for since april myself :D
@Luca Colson Definitely, have been watching on Flixzone for months myself :)
What a handful. Id trade it in for my 580hp ER34 GT anyday
no, u both spelled it wrong. it's keiichi. u spelled the last name right. anyway u r absolutely correct. he IS a beast. the girl is kazumi kondo, a regular veteran d1 umbrella girl and track correspondant.
last corner was amazing
god that car sounds nice!

its a GP in japan, and there is a winner, the person with the most points, just like boxing.
Even though the Car is setup for drift you can see how hard it is to disrupt the S2000's chassis. He has to constantly kick the clutch to break traction.

it's fast in a drift once you get it going right. Suspension settings need to be worked out though to get it to swing the rear out easier, though
Miata is not meant to drift in stock form. The S2000 can slide its tail out under power a lot easier than a Miata can.
Very very nice :D nice video , nice drifts
haha it looks like they just kept it with the grip setup. the car didn't really want to let loose and drift.
realy beasty driften driven'!! loved it!
That turbo makes drifting so effortless... but of course those Japanese got some serious skillzzz
Lmao that ain't a turbo
not turbo
yes thats true.. but once you start drifting on the pro level, youll start wanting more grip and stickier tires to drift that much faster.
Tires arent the problem, its the steering rack (adjusts ratios mid turn, reducing turn in ability) and the lack of torque. Even a 500hp turbo S2000 will only have ~300 ft lbs of torque.

great job
that dude is a crazy good driver, holy fuck

Stock s2000 is RWD !
@Arai4lpinestars and that truly shows why he's the drift king
BEST SPORT EVER
i think your right. they're just not meant for drifting (in my opinion), more track
very nice s2000. if set up right they will drift.
gotta love the funk background music
I drive a Miata dude, so does my friend. We don't complain about the short wheel base, the lack of power, or how it was made to grip, we just drive. Come talk to me when you can drift.
Andrew Larson what
I test drove one an while back and thought it was pretty good. I think the power band is too short though for maximum performance. If I got one, I'd burn the crap out of the engine and replace it with another high revving Honda engine. Prolly the K20A Type-R or similar.
@yoyoholck That was actually a pretty awesome video, thanks for sharing it.
my favourite car!!!!!
@yoyoholck Rallying is not powersliding, not necessarily. Powersliding is powering the wheels to create a slide, drifting is using inertia, like they do in rally. Japan popularized it and used it in sport, but definitely did not invent it.
It's a front mount motor rear wheel drive, it was made to drift.
its not hard puting it sideways, you just need to control it... some vtec killer cams for a smoother power line and you're good to go... and a better diff :)
I drive a 2003 s2000, and I can tell you the main reason they cant hold any slides, is lack of torque. damn the car responds so fast!
this guy is fucking crazy!!:-O perfect drift and perfect shaft, but the best is the cam inside his legs...awesome!!nice job...
nice drift
ofcourse,i was saying it was 51:49 STOCK.i think takng out the spare makes it better.

yea you're right, but i meant more suitable for races with less traction loss or watever.
Agreed its a good car to go fast in but to drop a good 40,000 to drift...ummm not soo much my style....
Of course!!!
With the funny intruductions they made whe think:wtf is this, but when we see them driving omg!!!
he didnt use it in this video, the other driver did at the end not the drift king(guy in green)
nice learning video
I'm talking about the 2nd driver. His driving was much more impressive and smooth, even if he did spin it at first.
3:39 nice engine sound :):)
"I" am the drift king...on my dreams...
@Nivlaxia i swears that drifting was invented to drive the mountains without having to go too slowly..
The weight distribution isn't good for a drift car, near 50:50
The sound of that thing gives me wood.
ask me if that thing is fast.
yeah so would i but i was just stating the stock specifications.btw my mistake its 49:51,yes the rear end is a little bit heavier, but the spare takes car of that.;)
takes alot of skill to do this =]
where did u see a s2k ff man cus it only come fr man
no.... b/c of the 50/50 weight balance, its harder to shift weight. same with FD3s. but if ur a pro, u can get better angles out of it b/c of the balanced state
there should be a video of it by Keiichi Tsuchiya, you'll see.
rally wasnt driftin it was goin a bit sideways round a corner on some gravel btw wich was sliding these guys invented it on tarmac
yea its a FMR(front-midship) layout
That dude can F*ing DRIVE!!!
So do they turn off the vsa to drift the car?
sound like angel queef....NOICE!
I use to own s2k Too control it was hard, so it's considered sliding not drifting . 4:06 he touches the windshield wipers :DD
so its n/a or compressor????
no way to be turbo cause of the throttle response
no matter what, s2k is always a circuit car, made for grip, see how its hard to make a big angle with that car?
a really drifter :)
@Nivlaxia Fail rally was not the birthplace, it was made in japan, geez
haha thats awesome :^B
Man I miss GT4...I got rid of my ps2 and got a ps3...it only has Gran Trismo 5 (prologe)...it sucks you dont have the ability to modify your car..and no SPOON S2000
the prologe is not the complete GT5
centrifugal supercharger for the win!
:D V-TEC JUST KICKED IN YO
mr2's are rear engined and very heavy over the back so harder to control a drift with
at 2:43 the guy said it is a SuperCharger - supercharger means that is has a charger (Kompressor) and a Turbo! You can see the turbo at 1:31 !
He is good.
Its on 4.7 gears right?
thank god that was all in a language i understand! HONDA!!! :)
What about the NSX?
Nah it's actually a comptech SC with a Paxton Novi 1000, the setup I have. but yeah it's ethanol/water to air.
