Love this video its great! I know you stated that 8mm is too light and in most circumstances I agree but I have been experiencing some great speeds and power with .6 sumeike 20/15 with 8mm. I have taken many pigeons and starlings with this setup at around 30m obviously shot placement is important but the other day I only had the body shot (these are feral pest pigeons) and I knew it would kill the bird but I actually had a pass through on the pigeon. Amen to this vid. I’ve done a lot of experimenting too.. 80 something grains (9.5mm lead or 11mm steel weigh the same) travelling at 250-260 FPS seem optimum for hunting/accuracy/draw weight. Anything slower and game have been known to duck or flinch enough to get out of the way of a perfect placed shot.
1mm sheshou. 28mm - 20mm cut to 16cm. Active band length is 14mm (draw length is 78cm). Bullskin pouch cut to 45mm x 14mm. For a 9.6mm lead, this is my optimum combo. With the bands at 30mm- 26mm for winter use to compensate for the cold.

Very educational Wayne thanks- my accuracy is coming and yes can vouch for non lethal pass-throughs at various ranges w/9.5 :-(. Will try some 11mm. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Body shots in general are a bad idea on birds. At least with a projectile that kills by trama. You either break the wing and have to wring the neck or if you have the force to kill you will bloodshot the meat. I am speaking from experience with a longbow. Many guys use blunts for birds. I originally used Judo points and shot grouse with them. I was not pleased with the results. I have also seen them fly off with an arrow in them with a target point or judo point (not mine). I still do body shoot them with a bow but only with a hunting sized broadhead. Illegal to hunt them with a slingshot here unfortunately.
Carl Foster cheers Carl. Yeah, .8 will handle 11mm steel at 25/20 in good weather, but once the cold hits, switching to an anti cold band would be advisable.
Hey Wayne great detailed video mate. Just wondering what cut you would recommend for 9.5mm steel using 1mm sheshou band. I just want maximum power for hunting as I only have 9.5mm steel available. Cheers.
@@CattyShackHunter Cheers. I haven't ordered any yet so I can still go with a better option. But I was only thinking 1mm due to it being thicker and thicker the band wouldn't that result in greater band life? If it wouldn't change band life would .8 be a better option, cheers mate.
@@CattyShackHunter Okay sorry haha didn't know that. Okay thanks very much I really appreciate it. I was looking on Dankung and many say 25-20 .8 with 3/8" sends them round 260fps which I believe is pretty good.
a 10mm lead ball flying at over 200fps is more than enough to pretty much kill ANYTHING if you hit it in the head within 5 yards. If it didnt penetrate it would at least crush the skull at the impact point and cause internal hemorrhaging.
I found a dealer on ebay where I can get 3000 10mm steel for $51, I dont plan on hunting so I should be fine. But if I was to hunt to provide food I think I would be ok for birds or squirrels
At the moment I’m using .85 Catty Shack ‘Great White’ with a 25/20 taper. In the winter I’ll switch to 1mm Great White 25/17 taper. I basically try to maintain around 240fps year round.

Usually by making sure you have your active length correct. The harder you push a band, the less life it will have. Some blends will naturally last longer than others too. Usually 2 - 300 shots with a hunting band is what I’d consider to be normal.

Oh and one last question, my fork tips are 20mm wide and theattach with a clamp you screw down. If I try wider than 20mm bands they stick out the side, is that a problem? The gap is too narrow to let me file them in unfortunately.
Thanks again, I really appreciate your insights!
@@TheRealTrentRazor I looked into Tungsten, but the price really put me off! Haha. But no shame in ‘nerding out’ and experimenting mate, more people should do it. It’s how we learn.
The fork tips aren’t ideal, but you’ll be fine 👍
Best videos out there!!! ❤️❤️🔥🔥😎😎😎
What you think about 3/8 lead ammo for rabbit and ducks
10mm lead or 11mm steel for rabbits at longer range?
Personally prefer lead for fur at longer range 👍
Like how he dissed the 50 caliber steel, so your saying 3/8ths is better? 👌
Very educational Wayne thanks- my accuracy is coming and yes can vouch for non lethal pass-throughs at various ranges w/9.5 :-(. Will try some 11mm. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Ross Dixon no problem bud 👍 Thanks for your input 👍👍
Great video Wayne. Keep them coming 👍👍
catty moose thank you 👍👍
Body shots in general are a bad idea on birds.
Great video Wayne could you use 11m steel with .8 bands 25/20 cut
Carl Foster cheers Carl. Yeah, .8 will handle 11mm steel at 25/20 in good weather, but once the cold hits, switching to an anti cold band would be advisable.
would a 9mm bearing change a mind of say a rabid dog that's coming to attack you?
Quite informative,
🏇🏇🏇🏇🏇
Advance Graphics 👍👍
Where can we find these "0.8 stardy bands"?
What band set and taper you use with 10mm lead
Fantastic video Wayne, really good information, can you do one on bands for newbies like me please, has I'm not sure on them
Thanks
mollski 1969 thank you mate. Yep, planning on doing one soon 👍
Hey Wayne great detailed video mate. Just wondering what cut you would recommend for 9.5mm steel using 1mm sheshou band. I just want maximum power for hunting as I only have 9.5mm steel available. Cheers.
Pat S 1mm band is too heavy for 9.5 steel, but if you have nothing else try something like a 20/15 or 18/13 something like that.
@@CattyShackHunter Cheers. I haven't ordered any yet so I can still go with a better option. But I was only thinking 1mm due to it being thicker and thicker the band wouldn't that result in greater band life? If it wouldn't change band life would .8 be a better option, cheers mate.
Pat S no it doesn’t work like that mate. It depends which band you choose, but .65 - 8 will all be ok with 9.5 depending on the taper.
@@CattyShackHunter Okay sorry haha didn't know that. Okay thanks very much I really appreciate it. I was looking on Dankung and many say 25-20 .8 with 3/8" sends them round 260fps which I believe is pretty good.
what would you recommend for hunting...cheeky rabbits that may break into my house. I dont want these...cheeky rabbits getting up again
a 10mm lead ball flying at over 200fps is more than enough to pretty much kill ANYTHING if you hit it in the head within 5 yards. If it didnt penetrate it would at least crush the skull at the impact point and cause internal hemorrhaging.
11mm steel or 10mm lead
Just got into 9mm lead. A revelation.
Excellent my friend
I found a dealer on ebay where I can get 3000 10mm steel for $51, I dont plan on hunting so I should be fine. But if I was to hunt to provide food I think I would be ok for birds or squirrels
Thanks Wayne brilliant youtube when you want to learn l hate asking people saves me reading books brilliant mate
Stuart Whelan cheers mate 👍
Stuart Whelan check this out too mate, it’ll show you what I’m talking about 👍

Is 8mm okay for small birds?
Did you mention what band setup you are using with the 11mm steel? Matched the same?
At the moment I’m using .85 Catty Shack ‘Great White’ with a 25/20 taper. In the winter I’ll switch to 1mm Great White 25/17 taper. I basically try to maintain around 240fps year round.
If speed is a consideration why do people not shoot semi butterfly or butterfly more
I'm new to the sport so just interested!
Shane Jackson I've often thought that as well I've only been shooting slingshot for about a year and still can't decide which ones better with a completely different band setup Because the active band length is different and also different ball sizes makes for added complexity especially for newbies lol......
@@philkennedy342 I've only just managed desent groups with short draw, but thinking of trying semi butterfly which seems a nice in between, full butterfly to much for me at moment I'll end up with no face left, also thinking of changeing from ttf to ott!
Shane Jackson 😂😂😂 your not the only one think the hardest part is trying to find the best way that matches your shooting style and the distance your shooting... close in anchor at your face or distance full butterfly like yourself I can only get good groups at 10 to 15 yards hats off to the guys that can shoot 50+ yards lol....
Shane Jackson because butterfly / semi butterfly is much harder to master and be consistently accurate with, as you’ve found out by the looks of it! 😂👍
@@CattyShackHunter yea thought I'd get a descent slingshot bought a gamekeeper ppmg but nearly shot my hand off with 3 fork hits!so put it away till I get better, shooting well using a wasp now,but wearing boxing gloves!
love your vids😁👍
Stephen Brown thank you 👍
Hopefully you cep makeing cool videos on slingshots
Another great video mate
kano b cheers bud 👍
Great info mate...🤘😍🤘😍
subin mathew thank you 👍
Man it's cool you hunt with slingshots hey I think 45cal lead balls work great most slingshot hunting I think is like 10 feet to 35 feet hear in the USA. If you want to kill a ratcoons with a slingshot. Ues a 45cal lead ro 58cal lead hit in the brain ro make a slingbow
Tried M8 hex nuts ? Pritty decent
Ted Winni god yeah, long time ago now though!
Cheap and cheerful for plinking lol
Good video mate 👍
Joe Roberts Slingshots cheers bud 👍
What thickness band would you recomend for 10mm lead I'm using v.3 yellow precise 0.7 25/20
ChopSueyDoey Gaming Sorry, I’ve not used v3 .7 precise. But in good weather, 25/20 is where I would start.
So 11mm Steel Ball flying between 220fps - 235fps are the best all rounded Ammo for Hunting / Pest Control between 10m - 15m correct?
Wing Fai Luk Personally that is what I would use. Does not mean it is the opinion of everybody. Also I am now getting speeds of around 250fps with 11mm steel, so even better than before.
I shoot 9.5 both always does the job 😂👍
thank you for so much.
No problem! Thank you 👍
Very good, Thank you very much
Where do you get 10mm lead from
Very informative vid mate. Thanks, I've subscribed. By the way, what breed is your pup?
J iKon thanks mate! The dog in the vid is a Springer Spaniel, but my pup is a Bedlington/Greyhound x Whippet/Greyhound 👍
@@CattyShackHunter I have a Brittany Spaniel myself and thought by looking at its face on the vid that it was the same breed. Brittanys and Springers look very similar. Great dogs.
J iKon good dogs, but don’t ever chill out in the field. He’s 9 years old!
@@CattyShackHunter LOL... definitely bred to hunt. All the best and look forward to some more catty related vids.
J iKon thanks mate 👍
Mighty meaty matey !
Oțel de 6mm este bun?
10 mm lead...11 mm steel...ok!
Which band will it do, Sir? Greetings!
Christian Dost hello! If you look on my website, 0.8 Sheshou is in stock and will be best for this size ammunition at a taper of 25/20 👍
@@CattyShackHunter thanx!
Thanks for sharing your experience. It's helped me!
2Ton no problem. Thank you 👍
I make 12 Mel leds and I ues a double bandit catapult
How does the cloud appear suddenly at 03:46? And then disappear in another ten seconds or so?
Magesh P haha! Honestly no idea! I guess the camera is auto adjusting focus 🤷♂️
What about 6mm steel?
Excellent video 👍
eric ward thank you 👍
I think that with headshots you can kill from pegeons to rabbits even with 6mm steel balls from 20meters.
Thanks, good vid.
What is your thoughts of 8x11 bean shot lead?
I’m not sure of the sizes, but I tried some smaller ones a few years ago and found they swerved a bit. Matt Redding gave me some bigger ones to try a couple of months back and they flew well. However, I see no benefit to them over a regular lead ball.

How do you get your flat Target hunting bands the last longer without breaking
Usually by making sure you have your active length correct. The harder you push a band, the less life it will have. Some blends will naturally last longer than others too. Usually 2 - 300 shots with a hunting band is what I’d consider to be normal.
@@CattyShackHunter is 1/4 ammo good for rats, other rodents and crow and s,aller birds
@@CattyShackHunter would you considered a little nuts you tighten on two screws a good ammunition instead of round and ignition if you can't find it that much or it's hard to buy
